My Favorite Game Followed Me!
Chapter 944
Anton handed the document bearing the stamp from his identification badge, which proved his identity as a member of Traveler’s Haven, to the realtor. He told the man to give the document to Ekios and explain to his cousin what it was for.
He then asked the agent to call his cousin and his wife back into the office.
When Ekios and his family reentered the agent’s office, Anton told them that he would hire them as the caretakers of his cottage.
He explained that there was a small house behind his cottage that was large enough for a family of three and that they could stay there.
Anton then handed a purse filled with gold coins to Ekios and told his new employee to follow his cousin. He had paid the man to guide them in purchasing clothes suitable for servants of a member of Traveler’s Haven.
Ekios gaped at the purse filled with gold coins.
“This is… this is too much, sir,” Ekios stammered.
“No. Your cousin will explain to you why you need to purchase the best of the best. From now on, you will be known as servants of a member of Traveler’s Haven.”
Anton turned his attention to the realtor and told him that, once they purchased good clothes they could immediately change into, he should take his new servants to a restaurant for a meal.
Afterward, they should continue shopping for anything he thought a servant of a Traveler needed to have.
Anton told the realtor that his commission for helping his cousin with the shopping would be ten percent of the total amount Ekios and his wife spent.
The only limit was the total number of gold coins in the purse he had handed Ekios.
The purse contained around five hundred gold coins, which was a huge fortune for an ordinary citizen of Remuth.
Once they had purchased everything his servants needed, the realtor would lead them to his cottage near the park.
Before they left, Anton asked for copies of the wage contract he would use for Ekios and his wife.
Then he went home.
While waiting for his new servants who would take care of the Librarian’s Cottage, Anton spent his time watching films.
He remembered that before leaving Traveler’s Haven, he had handed a Tiny Globe of Browser Sharing to Maura containing the rest of the episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
The problem was that the tiny globe would only last for seven days, so Maura and the others needed to transfer the files from the globe to other magical items as soon as possible.
Maura told him that she knew what needed to be done. She already had everything required to transfer the videos.
The realtor, Ekios, his wife, Lelaine, and their son, Derion, finally arrived at the cottage late in the afternoon.
Ekios and his family were now wearing high-quality clothing, and Anton approved.
They had to hire a carriage because they had bought so many things.
Anton was impressed that Ekios’s cousin, the realtor, had managed to help his new servant spend nearly all the coins he had handed them.
Inside the cottage, the realtor reported everything he had helped Ekios and his family purchase.
There were five sets of formal clothes that Ekios, his wife, and even their son could wear if Anton required them to attend a formal function.
They had also purchased several sets of work clothes, although the quality was still the best of the best.
They had purchased several sets of formal and informal shoes, as well as jewelry that Ekios and his wife could wear if Anton ever needed them to present themselves more formally or show off their status.
The realtor had basically purchased everything but the kitchen sink.
Anton’s new servants looked shell-shocked.
Ekios and his wife admitted that they had never imagined spending that many coins on things they would normally consider unimportant.
What truly shocked Ekios and his wife was the respect and envy other people showed them once they learned that they had secured employment with a member of Traveler’s Haven.
According to the realtor, everyone basically viewed it as being equivalent to winning the lottery.
Anton told Ekios’s cousin that he was satisfied with the service he had provided and handed the man his commission.
The real estate agent smiled widely before leaving.
Anton then began talking to Ekios and Lelaine, whose son was asleep in his mother’s arms.
He explained what he expected them to do.
He mentioned that, more than likely, Anton would only return to the Librarian’s Cottage a few times a year.
Their primary responsibility was to make sure the place remained clean and that the house, furniture, and basically everything inside remained in pristine condition.
He told Ekios and Lelaine their yearly wages.
They immediately protested that the amount was too much, but Anton told them that because he was paying them such a high wage, he expected their loyalty.
He would also ask them to sign a magical contract to ensure that they would protect the cottage from outsiders, except when doing so would put their lives in danger.
Ekios and Lelaine agreed to sign the contract, and they immediately did so.
They were surprised when Anton handed them a box containing their wages for three years.
He explained that since he was a traveler and would probably rarely return to the cottage, it would be better for them to receive their wages in advance.
He then handed them a second box containing their food allowance for three years.
He told them that he expected his servants to be well-fed.
Ekios’s hands trembled when he received the two boxes Anton handed him, and Lelaine even started crying.
Once they had calmed down, Anton led them to the small house behind the cottage where they would be staying.
Anton had already cleaned it with his Cleaning spell. It was also furnished to some extent, but if they wanted to add more furniture, they could use their wages however they wanted.
The small house was complete enough. It had three bedrooms and a bathroom.
Ekios asked whether he should plant decorative foliage in front of the cottage.
Anton remembered that Ekios and his wife were farmers, so they likely knew how to take care of plants.
Anton agreed. He actually liked the idea of having some greenery around the cottage.
He asked Ekios how much it would cost, but the man shook his head vigorously and said that they already had enough funds.
Anton shrugged and added that they could also use the land surrounding their small house if they wanted to plant vegetables or raise small animals.
That made them happy.
He told them that he didn’t expect them to live like prisoners and that they were free to roam around the city, as long as they made sure the cottage remained guarded.
They could even invite friends if they wanted, provided their guests stayed out of Anton’s cottage and only entered their own house.
After Ekios and Lelaine placed all their belongings in the living room of their house, Anton brought Ekios into the cottage and gave him a tour of the entire property.
As he showed Ekios around, Anton described the things he expected to remain clean and well-maintained.
Anton wasn’t actually worried about anything being stolen because, in truth, there were no valuable items inside the cottage.
As a matter of fact, the furniture and decorations inside the cottage were rather underwhelming.
He asked Ekios to find his cousin and ask him for help hiring an interior decorator who could refurnish the cottage with the best furniture and art pieces available.
He handed another purse to Ekios containing the budget for the furniture and artwork.
Ekios promised that he would complete the task Anton had assigned to him.
After that, Anton told his new servant that he would be leaving that night and would probably be gone for months or possibly even longer than that.
Ekios assured him that he and Lelaine would make sure his cottage was well taken care of.
