Chapter 1676: Chapter 1650: Where the Eyes Fall, There is Eternity: Giving Robert a Little Brother (2000+)

Daxton Lancaster lifted his phoenix eyes and looked at Violet Zimmerman, his lips curved in a subtle arc, and asked meaningfully, “Joseph didn’t tell you?”

Being so blatantly stared at by Daxton Lancaster, Violet Zimmerman felt like she had nowhere to hide. She collected her gaze in panic and stammered, “You’re his elder brother, if he didn’t tell you, why would he tell me?”

Daxton Lancaster stared intently at Violet, seeing all her panic, and said meaningfully, “How is that the same?”

Violet suddenly lifted her eyes, and Daxton laughed mockingly, continuing to play with his son, gently brushing Robert Lancaster’s face with his fingertip. His tone sounded casual yet tender.

“Robert, how about we ask Mommy to give you a little brother? Then you will have a playmate in the future.”

“Ah, ah… Ba, Baba…” Robert seemed to understand Daxton’s words and flapped his little arms excitedly.

“Look how happy Robert is. Violet, before Joseph gets married, let’s give Robert a brother.”

Daxton said it naturally, as if he were discussing something perfectly reasonable, his lowered phoenix eyes filled with gentleness, just like the expression on his face.

This was the gentle Daxton from Violet’s memory, just the way he was when they were dating.

Feeling a bit dazed, a sentence slipped out without thinking.

“And what if it’s a sister, then what?” No one can guarantee the next child will be a boy.

Daxton’s finger paused on his son’s face, his phoenix eyes tightened, and his expression suddenly turned cold, saying in a sterile manner, “If it’s a girl, have an abortion! I’ll arrange it at the hospital when they do an ultrasound.”

“Why?” Violet didn’t understand why Daxton disliked girls. They already had a son, and having a girl would complete the character for ‘good’ (son and daughter), making life fulfilling.

“With so many businesses in the Lancaster Family, how would a girl ever inherit?” Daxton’s ingrained male chauvinism was strong, believing only men could manage a company well, which was why he never taught Violet about business.

Violet let out a sigh internally, feeling a bit uncomfortable, realizing her husband Daxton was just like her parents, biased towards males over females.

The topic wasn’t continued, she turned over, leaving Daxton with a view of her back, her mind contemplating how her brother-in-law Joseph Lancaster would handle the disturbance caused by Vesper Carter’s husband at the company.

Daxton didn’t specify when they should have a second child, knowing confidently that as soon as his wife Violet took the initiative, it would happen.

Before long, it was Robert Lancaster’s birthday, his first full year. Lorelei Howard instructed the kitchen to prepare a table full of delicious foods and asked Joseph to bring his girlfriend over.

Since Vesper Carter’s husband had caused a scene at the company, Vesper was clashing with him over divorce, not for any other reason, but because her husband was using it to extort hush money from Joseph.

Even though Joseph patiently explained for a long time, sincerely apologized, and promised to give the couple some money as compensation, David Sterling stubbornly insisted their relationship was improper. He demanded Joseph pay him a hundred dollars monthly, claiming he’d turn a blind eye; otherwise, he would stir up trouble at the company daily, letting every employee know Joseph was using his position to lure his secretary…

Vesper Carter was a woman of dignity, and this fabricated story, not to mention her husband David’s attempt to “profit” from it, drove her to propose divorce that same day, yet David wouldn’t agree. In fury, Vesper moved into the company building.

Joseph felt guilty, knowing his secretary was having marital issues due to his troubles, and though he wanted Vesper to stay at his home, he feared it would cause further misunderstanding, so he temporarily let her stay in his office.

In the month before, Joseph talked with David twice, understanding his motive: the technician from the state-run factory faced frequent wage cuts and was trying to earn some “extra cash” through his wife to support an aging mother.

Such overtly conceding men who let their wives support them, Joseph deeply despised, and after two encounters, he ignored him.

Today was his son’s birthday; even if his mother hadn’t suggested, he would have brought Vesper back. Leaving her at the company alone all day, bringing her back would cheer her up, being his responsibility.

At the dining table, the family was happily chatting, of course referring to the main branch here, while the second branch, with three sons and daughters-in-law, wasn’t interested.

Vesper Carter, the future daughter-in-law, was placed by Lorelei Howard at the head table, with Joseph by her side.

Lorelei busily instructed Joseph to help Vesper with food, saying, “Joseph, Vesper, your brother Michael will be holding his wedding this year. Let’s not join the crowd then, but plan your wedding for next May Day. By then, have more children; while I’m in good health, I can help take care of them.”

“Mom, there’s no certainty yet, you’re planning too far ahead.”

Joseph acted helplessly, saying while helping Vesper fill a chicken wing into her bowl, “Eat more; you’ve been losing weight recently.”

Joseph spoke the truth; since Vesper moved into the company, she often cooked noodles daily. Even after two months, it was hard on an iron constitution.

“Thank you,” Vesper smiled politely, with some emotions burgeoning inside.

Just as she finished speaking, Lorelei teasingly said to her, “You’re with Joseph for so long, why be polite? Come here often, and I promise to plump you up in no time.”

Vesper turned to Joseph, smiling, “Alright, I’ll come over often.”

Joseph found nothing peculiar, but Violet sitting next to Vesper became slightly unhappy, burying her head as she fed Robert some egg custard. Her expression noticeably cooled.

“Sister-in-law, you should eat more meat too; Robert is growing, and his appetite is increasing,” Joseph also picked some meat for Vesper, putting the bowl of chicken meat before her. It was reasonable to do so.

Looking at the chicken drumstick in her bowl, Violet thinned her lips, imitating Vesper’s tone to say, “Thank you.”

“We’re all family, why be polite!”

Joseph laughed, then took a piece for Daxton too, further concealing his concerns for Violet, but Violet knew it was intentional that Joseph picked her the chicken drumstick.

Because she had mentioned before, chicken wing skins had too much fat, chicken breast was too dry, and only drumsticks were the best, Joseph knew this.

Taking advantage of the moment as her son ate the egg custard, Violet tasted the chicken drumstick, for the first time finding that the chicken stew was more delicious than at Wambass & Sons.
