Chapter 1675: Chapter 1649: Wherever the Eye Can Reach Is Forever—He Can Fool Others but Not Me

Joseph Lancaster had a “girlfriend,” which saved him the trouble of being set up on blind dates by the family. To avoid suspicion from his family, Joseph would bring Vesper Carter back home every weekend.

During that era, flash marriages weren’t the norm. Couples would typically date for at least a year before discussing marriage, so Joseph wasn’t concerned about being pressured into marrying by his parents.

In the blink of an eye, it was summer again, and Daemon Lancaster’s wife, Victoria Thornton, gave birth naturally to a second child, another boy, which made Eva Hayes practically beam with joy.

On the day at the hospital, she declared that the wedding of her second son, Michael Lancaster, would be arranged before the year’s end, marking a double celebration for the family.

Her words subtly poked at the elder son’s side, boasting about her son Daemon’s robust health and claiming that Victoria would soon be pregnant again.

Daxton Lancaster had been frail since childhood, often suffering from headaches and colds. Eva’s remarks were a clear insinuation that his health was lacking.

Being a mother herself, Lorelei Howard felt displeased at her son’s disparagement.

Back home from the hospital, Lorelei expressed her dissatisfaction, saying, “Daxton, Violet, you two need to step up. Daemon’s family has already welcomed their second child, but you still haven’t made any progress? You’re missing opportunities!”

Violet Zimmerman sat on the sofa, engrossed with Robert, trying to minimize her presence.

The decision about whether or not to have a second child wasn’t hers to make, as it was up to the man beside her to decide.

Daxton Lancaster shrugged helplessly, “Mom, didn’t you say we should wait until Robert is weaned before considering a second child? Why the sudden change of heart?”

“What was said then was then! Now is now!” Lorelei grumbled, displeased, and snorted discontentedly, continuing.

“Did you see the smugness of your second aunt, acting like her daughter-in-law is the only one capable of having children.

Daxton, I’m telling you, starting today, you and Violet need to step up, and aim to give me a chubby grandchild by next year!”

Violet sneaked a glance at Daxton, who was pretending to be unconcerned and continued playing with Robert.

Robert was nearing his first birthday, flailing his little arms and legs and repeatedly calling out to Joseph, “Bah, Bah-bah…”

“Daxton, you should consider what your mother said, Violet. Although the country advocates for family planning now, the Lancaster Family is distinguished, not like ordinary families, so having another child would prevent Robert from being lonely.”

With his father suggesting the same, Violet dared not utter a single word, lowering her head and pretending to entertain her son.

Daxton picked up the little guy who kept flailing towards himself, saying helplessly, “Got it, Dad, Mom. We’ll have another one. But after the second child is born, you can’t keep pressuring Violet, she is my wife, not a child-bearing machine.”

“Alright, as long as my grandson has a companion, you can do whatever you want afterward. Anyway, there’s always Joseph. Vesper looks like she’s built for bearing children, they’ll have many!”

Lorelei took Robert into her arms as she sat beside Bodhi Lancaster, entertaining her grandson while muttering to herself.

“Grandma’s chubby grandson, you’ll soon have a brother or sister, so you won’t be lonely anymore. Hmph, your second grandma keeps telling Maximilian not to play with you, but once your mom has a second child, we won’t bother with him!”

Violet Zimmerman…

Instinctively glanced at Daxton, finding him watching her. She lowered her head anxiously under his gaze.

That night, the couple lay in bed with Robert placed in the middle.

Daxton propped his head, playing with his son casually as he asked, “Violet, Mom and Dad want us to have another. What do you think?”

Violet cautiously observed Daxton’s reaction, unsure if he was seeking her opinion or teasing her.

After a brief thought, she cautiously responded, “I’ll follow your lead.”

Since New Year’s Eve, Daxton hadn’t made things difficult for her, perhaps due to his younger brother having a girlfriend.

“Hmm,” Daxton continued to play with his son, appearing indifferent, yet his words took Violet by surprise.

Daxton remarked, “I hadn’t considered this, but you haven’t been indulged in quite some time.”

Violet Zimmerman…

Gazed at Daxton in shock, taking time to comprehend his meaning, but soon his words disrupted her.

“Violet, you should get pregnant before Joseph gets married; it’ll be harder then.”

“You still want me to seduce Joseph?” Violet asked incredulously, feeling somewhat elated during the day when her mother-in-law suggested having more children, since that would mean being closer with her brother-in-law…

Although Joseph had a “girlfriend” and didn’t visit her as often anymore, secretly he’d still come to see her and Robert, bringing food and clothes for them…

But she never dared wear them, keeping them hidden at the bottom of her cabinet.

She knew their relationship was misplaced. Sometimes, alone with her son, she’d imagine how much better things would have been if she’d married Joseph.

Yet such thoughts were secretly harbored within her heart. Now, hearing her husband Daxton openly speak about it, Violet felt it was the greatest humiliation.

Thus she asked, do you want me to seduce Joseph?

Daxton smirked faintly, with a teasing sneer escaping his breath, grazing his fingers on the edge of his son’s little mouth, but holding him back from sucking.

“Ha, don’t you want to?” Daxton questioned, leaving no room for Violet’s reply, continuing, “Others might be fooled, but Joseph can’t fool me; that girlfriend of his is already married.”

Daxton knew the truth, and Violet was astounded.

She stared at the nonchalant man, unsure whether to commend his skill at hiding or condemn his depth of concealment.

He knew all along, yet exposed nothing. Violet suddenly realized how frightening her husband was—frightening enough to guard even his brother.

“Don’t look at me like that,” Daxton stated indifferently, seemingly finding amusement in teasing the little guy.

“Don’t forget, Joseph’s company was my gift. Speaking of which, I’m the founding member of that company.”

“Have you planted spies in the company?” Violet asked in disbelief.

“No, but I hear bit and pieces about major happenings,”

Daxton replied nonchalantly, as if chatting about casual topics.

“Major happenings? What kinds?” Violet instinctively asked, eager to know about anything related to her brother-in-law Joseph.

“Vesper Carter’s husband caused a scene at the company, claiming his wife was having an affair with Joseph.”

Daxton stated calmly, while Violet was stunned by his words.

“Secretary Vesper’s husband?” Violet asked instinctively, realizing her mistake instantly and swiftly masking her shock with, “That girl is married? Why would Joseph date her?”
