On the following Monday, Joseph Lancaster made a point of coming back from the office early and went straight to Violet Zimmerman’s place. To "apologize," he even brought her Wambaugh’s chicken drumsticks.

At three in the afternoon, Violet Zimmerman was sitting on the bed nursing Robert Lancaster. Joseph knew she was alone and came in without knocking.

Upon seeing him, Violet Zimmerman’s expression immediately turned cold.

"Get out! Can’t you see I’m nursing Robert? Men and women have boundaries. What are you doing coming in at this time?"

Joseph Lancaster closed the door and walked over with a smile, "When you brought me a midnight snack to seduce me back then, why didn’t you mention boundaries?"

Violet Zimmerman...

Her face turned bright red with anger. It took her a long time to say, "It was your big brother who forced me. You think I wanted to?"

"Shh... lower your voice. Don’t let the servants hear."

Joseph Lancaster pressed a finger to his lips, walked over, and sat down beside Violet Zimmerman, placing the paper-wrapped chicken drumsticks on the bedside table. One large hand naturally rested on Violet Zimmerman’s shoulder, while the other fell on Robert Lancaster’s cheek, gently stroking it.

"Oh, gray gray..." Robert made gleeful sounds while drinking milk and gurgling at Joseph.

Seeing his son recognize him, Joseph’s lips curved into a smile, a gentle expression unconsciously appearing in his eyes, "Violet, look, our son recognizes me."

Violet shrugged her shoulder forcefully, "Get away, Robert is not your son."

Joseph’s eyes turned slightly, gazing at Violet’s unhappy profile. His lips curved even more as he moved his fingers stroking his son’s face over to Violet’s face, smiling as he asked.

"What’s wrong? Are you upset?"

"What do I have to be upset about? You’re not anyone to me!" Violet said stubbornly, while shifting her body to the side.

Joseph sighed softly, intending to tease her at first, but seeing Violet’s behavior, he quickly dispelled the thought, pulling Violet back towards him, and spoke gently.

"All right, don’t be angry anymore. The woman, Zhang Qian, is my secretary and she’s already married. I brought her back to fool my parents."

"I don’t believe you!"

"Really, I’m not lying to you. Recently, Mom has been busy trying to introduce me to someone. To stop her, I brought my secretary to deceive her. Don’t be angry; I promised you, and I will keep my word."

"Hmph, I still don’t believe you!" Violet repeated, although her stiff expression loosened. She admitted she was selfish, worried that once her brother-in-law married, he wouldn’t be as good to Robert, so deep down, she didn’t want him to date anyone.

"Sigh, I’ve already revealed my cards to you, and you still don’t believe me, there’s nothing I can do." Joseph feigned helplessness, then reached over to pick up Robert.

"Let me play with my son for a while. Eat the chicken drumsticks while they’re hot. Didn’t you say that the plain boiled chicken wasn’t as good as Wambaugh’s chicken drumsticks just the other day?"

Violet took the chicken drumstick, feeling her heart filled with sweetness. She had mentioned it casually to Sister Zhang that day, and she hadn’t expected her brother-in-law to remember it.

Violet took a bite of the chicken, still warm, the rich aroma spreading in her mouth, pretending to be displeased, she said to Joseph, "Were you eavesdropping on my conversation with Sister Zhang?"

Joseph stood up, lifting Robert high. The little guy kicked his legs excitedly and laughed. Seeing his son enjoy it, Joseph lifted him high again. As he continued playing with his son, he said in a tone that was both exasperated and amused.

"I wasn’t eavesdropping. I know what my woman likes."
