Chapter 1667 - 1641: Where the Gaze Falls, There Lies Eternity: Thinking of a Long-Term Solution

Lorelei Howard is a woman of action, especially since Eva Hayes constantly flaunts in front of her. So before the end of the New Year festivities, she arranged for a matchmaker to introduce a potential match for her son.

And it wasn’t just one; she lined up several, bringing them over one by one for her son to meet.

The Lancaster Family had a great reputation, and Joseph Lancaster was a university graduate. When the girls’ parents heard it was Joseph Lancaster, they were all eager and continually reminded their daughters to make a good impression.

On the seventeenth day of the New Year, the matchmaker brought the first potential match to their doorstep.

The girl’s parents were high school teachers, and she worked at a government-run nursery, a secure job. Lorelei and her husband were very satisfied.

They immediately called their son Joseph Lancaster, asking him to come home straight away.

Joseph had already packed his briefcase, but upon hearing he was needed at home for a matchmaking meeting, he put his briefcase down and sat back in his office chair.

Before Secretary Qian left work, he came to check if the manager’s office door was locked, only to find Joseph Lancaster sitting in his office.

"Manager, the workday is over. Why haven’t you left?"

Joseph lightly curled his lips, "You go ahead. I’ll leave in a bit."

"Oh, then I’ll head off. Don’t forget to lock the door when you leave." Secretary Qian left with a bit of confusion.

Joseph leaned back in his office chair, clasping his hands in front of him, gazing forward, his face appearing solemn.

He was of legal marriage age, and it was reasonable for his parents to be eager for matchmaking. However, if he dodged today’s meeting, what about tomorrow? Or the future?

It seemed he needed to find a long-term solution.

Just as he was deep in thought, the office phone on his desk rang again. Joseph glanced down at it, his expression unchanged.

He knew without answering that it must be a call from home.

His sharp eyes watched the phone, the red receiver vibrating slightly, and he did not pick up until the ringing stopped.

Elsewhere, Lorelei Howard held the phone, listening to the beeping, frowning unconsciously.

"Sister, why hasn’t Joseph come back yet?" the matchmaker asked. They had been waiting for over half an hour, and not having seen Joseph, the girl was starting to feel uncomfortable, so she tugged at the matchmaker’s sleeve.

Lorelei put down the phone and smiled, "I just called Joseph’s office, and nobody answered. He should be on the way."

Another half hour went by, and Joseph still hadn’t returned. The girl couldn’t sit still any longer, "Aunt Wang, let’s go back. It’s getting dark."

Anyone with sharp eyes knew what was going on when Joseph didn’t return.

Lorelei and her husband Bodhi Lancaster both felt a bit embarrassed, having taken the initiative to ask the matchmaker for help, only to have their son not show up.

Lorelei stood up, full of apologies, "Sister Wang, how about staying for dinner before you leave? Joseph might be caught up with business and couldn’t make it back..."

"No, no, you must be busy; we’ll head off first. Maybe another day when Joseph has time!" the matchmaker stood up with a smile, while the girl beside her had dissatisfaction written all over her face.

Bodhi Lancaster and his wife courteously saw them out and returned looking annoyed. Lorelei said unhappily, "I can’t understand what Joseph is thinking. He knows the girl is waiting at home and doesn’t come back, nor does he answer the phone!"

"Maybe, as you said, he was entertaining clients." Bodhi sat down on the sofa.

With that, Lorelei became even more displeased.

"You’re in charge of the company too. Why is he always the busy one? In my view, he’s deliberately avoiding it!"

Bodhi frowned impatiently, "Alright, alright, let’s talk about it when he comes back."
