Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1666 - 1640: Wherever the Gaze Falls, There Is Eternity: The Clever Man
The red envelope, which seemed not to contain money, but just a piece of paper. Violet Zimmerman had her doubts but didn’t want to open it face to face.
"Oh, haha..." Seeing Joseph Lancaster, Robert Lancaster happily waved his small hands, babbling continuously at him.
"My dear nephew, do you want Uncle to hold you?" Joseph Lancaster leaned down and touched the little guy’s cheek, making him wave his little hands even more cheerfully.
"Cough, cough..." Joseph Lancaster turned his head to the side and coughed a few times, then turned back to continue touching Robert’s cheek, saying,
"Uncle has a cold, he can’t hold you."
As soon as Joseph Lancaster got up, the little guy pouted with grievance, looking at him, pretending to cry.
Joseph Lancaster leaned over again, pinched the little guy’s cheek, and said with a smile, "Pretending to cry won’t make Uncle hold you, it’ll pass the cold to you."
Seeing Joseph Lancaster really leaving, Robert burst into tears, clenching his little fists and looking at his back, crying with grievance.
Having no choice, Joseph Lancaster turned back again, "Okay, okay, Uncle will hold you, Robert, don’t cry, don’t cry, be good~"
Joseph Lancaster expertly picked up the little guy in his arms, gently swaying and soothing him. Once held by him, the little guy suddenly stopped crying, looking at him and babbling "ah, ah" repeatedly.
Everyone in the room watched the uncle and nephew, no one thinking much of it, except for Eva Hayes who secretly pursed her lips and said with a smile,
"Oh, I never saw it before, Joseph is quite good at comforting children!"
After that, she looked at Daxton Lancaster and asked, "Daxton, do you know how to hold a child?"
Daxton Lancaster subtly furrowed his brows, a hidden glimmer flashing in his eyes, quickly fleeting, then he smiled and said, "Second Mom is joking, Robert is my son, how could I not know how to hold him."
"I see Robert is closer to Joseph than to you!" Eva Hayes said bluntly, not knowing their "special" relationship and therefore deliberately mocking, if she really knew, she wouldn’t be so polite.
"Second Mom, anyone with eyes can see that I resemble my brother. Robert probably mistook me for my brother and wanted me to hold him with tears. If he were held by my brother, it would be the same."
Joseph Lancaster, comforting the little guy, said while turning to Daxton Lancaster, Joseph’s finger still holding the red envelope, right on the hand cradling the little guy’s head.
Babies are particularly sensitive to bright colors, and the little guy stretched out his little hand, tightly gripping the red envelope.
If it were normal times, Joseph wouldn’t let the child play with this, since Robert is young, only a few months old, at the age of putting everything into his mouth.
But given the circumstances now, to prevent the little guy from crying, Joseph simply let go of his hand.
With the red envelope, Robert was entirely focused on it, so when Joseph passed him to Daxton Lancaster, the little guy continued to babble at the envelope in his hand, appearing quite excited.
"Second Mom, see now!" Joseph Lancaster took a step back, watching the little guy play excitedly with the red envelope, feeling relieved.
He knew Eva Hayes’ character well and wouldn’t let her have any handle, or else she would certainly make a big deal out of it.
Eva Hayes secretly pursed her lips again and said no more.
...
On the third day of the festival, Michael Lancaster brought home a girl, gentle and gracious, also very polite, even Lorelei Howard couldn’t help but praise her, declaring that someday they must find Joseph a wife who is so literate and polite.
The Second Room indeed made a big display, in the evening, Lorelei Howard and her husband Bodhi Lancaster discussed finding someone to introduce a marriage prospect to Joseph Lancaster too, so as not to be overshadowed by the Second Room everywhere.
