Chapter 1657 - 1634: Wherever My Gaze Falls, It Is Forever: What Else Can I Do

Before she could react, Daxton Lancaster had already turned her around, and in the darkness, the couple faced each other.

"Tell me, how did it feel seeing me pressed against your cousin?"

Daxton Lancaster’s fingers gently caressed Violet Zimmerman’s face, but his words were merciless.

Without waiting for Violet to answer, he continued, "Did it make you feel uncomfortable inside, hmm?"

"Daxton, did you do it on purpose?" After hesitating for a moment, Violet asked the question that had been troubling her.

She couldn’t understand why her husband would do such a thing.

"Yes,"

Daxton acknowledged, his thumb brushing back and forth on Violet’s lips. In the darkness, his gaze fell there, as if unintentionally, his eyes stained with the ink of the night.

"Tell me, does it feel uncomfortable, like your chest is suffocating with cotton?"

Violet was shocked. She couldn’t understand how Daxton knew her feelings.

And Daxton, seemingly talking to himself, finished his question without waiting for her answer, covering her lips with gentle kisses, a suppressed voice sounding between them.

"That’s exactly how I feel, Violet, can you feel it..."

Violet finally understood his meaning. He was saying... every time she was intimate with Robert... that’s what he felt.

"Violet, you finally understand my pain, right..."

His voice was like a sigh, filled with deep despair. Daxton leaned over, pressing onto Violet, his hand fiercely gripping her side.

"I’m a man... your husband... yet I have to watch you be intimate with another man. Violet... do you know how much that pains me inside..."

With those words, Violet suddenly felt guilt. On the way back, she had been with Robert...

Her hand grabbing the bedsheet fell onto Daxton’s back, gently patting while comforting, "I’m sorry, Daxton. I didn’t know you were in such pain, I’m sorry..."

Aside from apologizing, Violet didn’t know what else to say to comfort him.

To be honest, the instigator was him. She didn’t want this. At the beginning, the panic and fear she felt, only she knew in her heart. She had to muster a lot of courage to take that step.

"The one who should apologize is me!" A sigh echoed in the dark, "Violet, I know you resent me, but I’m also powerless!"

With that sigh, Violet felt a chill in her chest, instinctively crying out.

"Daxton, what are you doing!"

Daxton raised his head, bitterness and self-mockery on his lips, "What can I do? I just want to kiss you."

Daxton’s expression made Violet’s heart ache, but an image unconsciously popped up.

If you could just think of me for a few minutes every day, that’s all I ask... then I would know I’m not alone in this one-sided longing...

Violet closed her eyes, a faint smile appearing on her lips.

Selfish or promiscuous, it didn’t matter, because she had promised, she had to keep her word.

The willow trees lined the path by the Lancaster Family’s yard, their long branches swaying in the wind. The quiet night felt cold and lonely because of the figure leaning against the trunk.

Joseph Lancaster parked his car in the garage and was now standing here, under the willow tree in front of his brother and sister-in-law’s residence.

This spot faced the small villa, and with a slight lift of his gaze, the master bedroom came into view.

Knowing full well that even if such a thing were to happen again, he had no right to intervene, yet he still felt uneasy.

So, he stood in the night, leaning against the trunk, silently watching the room he had climbed into countless nights.

Without realizing it, Joseph Lancaster chuckled to himself. He didn’t know when he had become like this. In the first few nights, he had slept on the bench at the foot of the bed, but gradually, he couldn’t help sleeping beside her.

To speak of this woman, she slept so deeply, she didn’t even know when he held her in his arms.

He checked the time on his wrist, twenty minutes to midnight.

Heaving a sigh, Joseph Lancaster straightened his posture and walked towards his residence.

His woman was safe, and his mood was particularly light and joyful.

...

Until she heard Daxton Lancaster’s even breathing, Violet Zimmerman finally relaxed. Daxton, without throwing a tantrum, seemed like a dream, somewhat unreal.

Violet turned over, her back facing Daxton, and her lips were curved as she slept.

In the morning, Daxton was no longer beside her, and Robert Lancaster, in the baby crib, was babbling with his small fists in his mouth, the blanket kicked off, exposing two chubby legs to the air.

Winter in T City was cold, but the small villa had heating installed. Even with outside temperatures below twenty degrees, people inside only needed to wear sweaters.

Violet hurriedly arrived at the baby crib and picked up the little rascal.

The little troublemaker had made a mess again, so Violet cleaned him up before carrying him downstairs.

Daxton Lancaster sat on the sofa, seemingly talking on the phone with someone, his expression cold, a visible trace of displeasure.

Violet assumed he was discussing business matters, so she sat quietly on the sofa beside him, silently pulling up her clothes to feed the little one breakfast.

Daxton glanced at her, speaking into the receiver with no warmth, "If there’s nothing else, hang up."

Finishing without giving the other party a chance to speak, he ended the call.

He turned seriously to Violet and said, "Don’t visit your family anymore!"

The call earlier was from Aria Williams, wanting to ask what time her daughter got home last night. Hearing her son-in-law’s voice, she nervously explained a few things.

Yesterday, when Violet called him, he hadn’t thought much of it. But upon seeing her return so late, holding the child, he had an inkling of what might have happened.

His brother’s deliberate hesitations, his mother-in-law’s cautious explanations, all indicated his wife had an unpleasant experience after visiting her family.

Relatives who don’t value his wife, it’s best not to associate with them.

Violet was taken aback for a moment, realizing the call must have been from home.

But seeing her husband’s expression, it seemed he was displeased. After hesitating, she cautiously asked.

"Daxton, in the future, regarding business matters... will you still help my dad with connections?"
