At this time, the yard lights were already out, and as they got closer to Violet Zimmerman’s residence, Joseph Lancaster’s face grew darker.

Darker than the night outside the car window.

He wanted to take Violet back to his place, but he couldn’t do that.

Directly taking her home, he worried about what his brother might do to her; in his conflicted thoughts, the car had already stopped at Violet’s place.

Through the car window, Violet took a deep breath as she looked at the small villa steeped in darkness.

With a child in one arm, she pushed the car door with the other, "Thank you, Joseph."

After a chaotic day, she still had to return to this home in the end.

Joseph’s hand tightened on the steering wheel, taking a deep breath, then exhaling, he opened the driver’s door, "I’ll walk you in."

"No, Daxton would be upset if he sees."

"Even if big brother doesn’t see, he’ll know it’s me who brought you back."

In the middle of the night, there are no passenger cars, and with Lucy gone, anyone with a brain would figure it out.

Moreover, he drove out, the family driver and security all knew.

Joseph carried the bag in front, and Violet followed with her child; they walked into the small yard one after the other.

Joseph knocked on the door several times before it opened; the hall lights were off, and in the dim light, Daxton Lancaster stood at the door, one hand on the handle, still in his work shirt and trousers.

"Big brother, I took Lucy back, and also brought Violet home."

Joseph met his brother’s eyes with unwavering honesty because being guilty would only disadvantage Violet.

"Come in." Daxton gave his brother a calm look, glanced behind him, and then stepped aside.

Once inside, Joseph turned on the hall’s chandelier.

Violet kept her head down like a wife who had done something wrong, following Joseph inside.

Joseph put the handbag on the sofa, "Big brother, I’ll head out now."

"Okay." Daxton stood by the door, hands in his pockets, nodded slightly, his emotionless face showed no sign of happiness or anger.

Violet stood in the center of the hall with her child, lips pressed together and head lowered.

Just as he was about to leave, Joseph stopped again and turned to Daxton, "Violet at her parents’..."

Joseph paused mid-sentence, waved a hand, "Forget it, it’s late, you guys rest."

He knew that big brother Daxton would understand what he implied.

As the door closed, Daxton turned around, hands in his trouser pockets, looking coldly at Violet.

"What happened at your parents’?"

Violet pressed her lips tightly, silent.

Ever since Daxton had slapped her, she felt afraid of him.

"Did they give you a hard time?" Daxton’s voice was still cold, matching his current expression.

After some hesitation, Violet mumbled, "No, it was just sister-in-law worried that I’d upset you by going back..."

"So they drove you back?" Daxton slightly narrowed his eyes.

"They didn’t drive me away, I wanted to come back."

Violet’s voice was barely audible, though her sister-in-law didn’t directly tell her to leave, causing a fuss was hardly any different.

"Go to your room, rest."

Joseph said expressionlessly, walked over, took the sleeping Robert from Violet, and headed for the stairs.

Watching Daxton’s back, Violet hesitated but followed him up.

Daxton put the child on the bed, his slender fingers unskillfully unwrapped the quilt; from Violet’s angle, his profile was tense, clearly displeased.

Her fingers twisted nervously, and Violet walked over.

"I’m sorry, Daxton, I shouldn’t have..."

"Check if Robert needs a change, then take a bath," Daxton turned to walk towards the bathroom.

Violet let out an obvious sigh of relief and unwrapped the quilt around the child to change the diaper.

Unexpectedly, Daxton did not question Violet about running back to her parents’ without a word, nor why it was his brother Joseph who picked her up.

In the dark, the couple lay in bed, each facing forward, leaving only their backs for the other.

"Jealous?" Daxton’s voice suddenly came from behind, asking a seemingly unrelated question.

Violet suddenly opened her eyes, clearly not sleeping, but startled as if she had been awakened.
