Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1654 - 1633: As Far as the Eye Can See, Love Endures Forever—Think of Me a Few Minutes Each Day (3000+)
"Ah," Joseph Lancaster laughed, pulling back from his lips but holding Violet Zimmerman tightly.
"I know, if you were someone else’s wife, I might have a chance to take you away, but you’re my brother’s, how can I take you."
In the darkness, Joseph’s lips curled slightly, his distant eyes filled with the helplessness of love unfulfilled.
He sighed and said, "Violet, how about we be secret lovers, for a lifetime, never leaving each other."
"Joseph, don’t do this, Daxton will be upset if he finds out." Violet pushed Joseph away in a panic, her heart pounding.
"I’m teasing you; have you forgotten all those unhappy things just now?" Joseph smiled at Violet, not wanting to put too much pressure on her. If someone in this extraordinary relationship had to bear something, whatever it was, he would bear it alone.
His woman, his child, should live carefree and happily, as long as she remains in his line of sight at all times, he would be satisfied.
"Don’t joke like that again in the future," Violet said with her head down, adjusting the small blanket around her child’s face, feeling a strange sense of loss.
"Hmm, I won’t."
Joseph sighed again, raising his hand, involuntarily resting it on Violet’s face, gently caressing it, his lips unconsciously curving into a tender smile.
"Violet, you’re so beautiful."
"I’m your sister-in-law." Violet emphasized, as if reminding Joseph Lancaster of something, but she didn’t dare to lift her head.
"I know." Joseph sighed once more, embracing Violet again, gently patting her back, then releasing her, opening the car door and sitting back in the driver’s seat.
The black car disappeared into the night again, Violet looked down at her sleeping son, unable to describe her feelings.
When people face disappointment, family is always the best support, yet ironically, in her saddest and most lost moments, her support wasn’t her husband and family, but her brother-in-law.
Unconsciously, a trace of desolation crept to her lips, Violet mused that the vast world seemed to have no place for her.
She admitted that she was somewhat willful, having called her brother-in-law to pick her up so late.
But in that situation, there was no reason for anyone to stay, not even for a minute longer.
Her most trusted family never cared about her feelings; they were only concerned if her willfulness would cause trouble for the family.
Alas...
A sigh escaped Violet.
Joseph glanced over through the rearview mirror; although he couldn’t see Violet’s expression, he knew her family had saddened her.
"No matter when, I’ll always be your support." He wouldn’t betray or abandon her.
"But ultimately, you’re going to get married." Violet’s sense of loss didn’t improve with Joseph’s promise; it worsened instead.
Even if her brother-in-law treated her well, he would eventually marry and have a family, a wife, and children of his own. How could he care for her then?
"Why do you always forget what I said!"
Joseph’s tone was helpless.
"What did you say? How can I remember," Violet replied moodily, feeling her chest tighten when she thought about her brother-in-law getting married and having children.
All the tenderness and care she had received would belong to another woman, and he would no longer carve wooden horses for her son or drive miles in the middle of the night to pick her up...
"Oh, you woman!" Joseph lamented.
"What did I do!" Violet retorted in a huff, even if she couldn’t see him, Joseph could sense the car was filled with resentment.
Feeling helpless yet amused, he thought, "Didn’t I tell you I would never marry or love any woman in this lifetime, how could you forget!"
Violet refused to believe Joseph’s words; he was so young, only twenty-two, how could he not marry! Even if he didn’t want to, his in-laws wouldn’t allow it.
Touching her son’s cheek, Violet said unhappily, "Who would believe such promises at that time!"
Joseph...
Didn’t expect Violet to say that, feeling torn between laughter and tears, but upon reflecting, he realized Violet’s words were filled with jealousy.
Inexplicably, his mood lightened, and while driving, Joseph asked quietly.
"What promises from that time?"
