Chapter 255: Never Won

Raveena just stayed silent for a moment, thinking, ’Just what trouble did I get myself into?’

She then looked at Asher, who was already summoning another juice.

’Who the hell even calls a person a meat shield when that person is supposed to be fighting alongside him? I just understood one thing, and that is that the being in front of me is far crazier than I ever thought. Sometimes he talks like a stupid kid, and the next second, he threatens the entire Continent like he is some kind of God.’

Asher then looked at Raveena, whose head was facing downward as she questioned every decision that had led her to this point.

"Why are you being so disheartened? You should be happy that you even got your freedom. And if I win, you will get something that you never imagined you would get."

Raveena looked up at Asher with an expression that practically screamed, ’What bullshit. I am definitely going to die.’

Asher continued, completely ignoring her expression.

"You guys are even at an advantage. First of all, you will only be fighting two Saints, and your Saints will also have an advantage. Another thing is that your Immortal Ranks will only have to fight a smaller number of Immortal Rank experts than your side has. The same applies to the Grandmaster Rank."

Raveena’s expression changed to one of confusion.

"What do you mean by that? Why would there only be two Saints fighting from the human side? And why would our Saints have an advantage? It’s the same with the Immortal Ranks. Why would we have a numerical advantage?"

Asher simply took a sip of his juice before answering calmly.

"You will know soon enough about the matter concerning the Saints. As for the Immortal Rank and Grandmaster Rank, that’s because it will be me fighting against more than seventy percent of the human Immortal Rank experts alone."

Raveena’s expression became slightly more serious.

"And that includes some of the best Immortal Rank experts of the human race. The same thing applies to the Grandmaster Rank."

Asher paused for a moment and took another sip of his juice.

"And the biggest advantage is me and my strategy."

He smiled slightly.

"I am the best when it comes to strategy, you know. I am also very good at breaking people’s wills and morale. Don’t forget that I have been fighting for billions of years."

His playful expression faded slightly as he continued.

"Even though I haven’t regained most of those experiences , and only fragments of them remain with me now. But those fragments are more than enough to help me win this time, I guess."

Raveena remained silent, listening carefully to every word.

Asher continued in a strangely confident tone.

"There has never been a war that I haven’t survived. I have always managed to kill all of my enemies, except for one guy."

He paused for a moment, as if remembering something from an extremely distant past.

"He was simply too good at hiding himself, so I couldn’t kill him last time."

Asher took another sip of his juice, completely calm despite talking about wars that had happened billions of years ago.

Raveena could only stare at him for a moment before thinking, ’Ohh, yeah. This guy also claims to have lived for billions of years. Though I don’t know how someone can even live that long, his behaviour makes it almost impossible to believe that he is actually someone billions of years old.’

She looked at Asher again.

’But his skills and strength do make it believable enough that he is at least telling the truth about some of it. Maybe we really could win if he is this strong even at Master Rank. If he can already fight against Immortal Rank experts, then after reaching Grandmaster Rank, he might even be able to hold them back or perhaps kill them.’

As Raveena thought about this, her mood slowly improved.

For the first time since hearing about the war, she felt that there might actually be a chance of surviving it.

And Asher kept continuing, completely unaware of the complicated thoughts going through her mind.

"You will get everything you ever desired if I am successful in breaking through to Pre-Apotheosis. You just have to hold the humans back until then. You don’t even need to kill them."

He took another sip of his juice before continuing.

"And I will finally win this time. I will give it my all, just like every other time I did. Maybe I will finally win this time at last, I guess."

Raveena’s mood had been improving, but the moment she heard those words, she noticed something strange about what Asher had just said.

She looked at him with confusion.

"What do you mean by ’win this time at last, I guess’? Didn’t you say that you have won every war and killed all your enemies?"

Asher looked at her and then calmly replied, "Ohh, you misunderstood. Yeah, I just survived every war, and everyone who was against me eventually died."

He paused for a moment.

"As for winning, I meant the war I have been fighting against Death for years—"

Before he could continue, Raveena immediately interrupted him.

"Wait a moment."

Her expression became serious.

"You said that we just have to hold them off until you complete Pre-Apotheosis, or whatever you are talking about. Is that thing related to your fight with Death?"

Asher stopped for a moment.

For the first time, he seemed to consider her question carefully instead of immediately answering.

Then he nodded.

"Yeah. You understood correctly."

His playful expression became slightly more serious.

"That Pre-Apotheosis is a fight against the Death I was talking about--"

And then Raveena intervened again, "I don’t know much, but doesn’t that mean you haven’t—"

Asher completed her words without hesitation.

"Yeah. I have never won even once until now."

Raveena simply looked at Asher with blank eyes again.

Then she slowly fell to the ground, her face touching the ground as she spoke in a completely dead tone.

"Yeah... you really are good at playing with people’s morale and will."
