The forest was practically a labyrinth, but fortunately, Wen Xue could sense the location of the item she sought. Their only complaint was that their traveling speed was much slower as they had lost their cultivation.

They took ages to travel a distance that would have only taken them an instant before.

While sprinting ahead, Wen Xue suddenly tugged Chu Feng’s sleeve and asked, “Junior Chu Feng, don’t you think this is not too bad?”

“What do you mean?”

“I’m talking about temporarily losing our cultivation and becoming weak. Doesn’t that make you cherish your cultivation even more?” Wen Xue asked.

“I have always cherished my cultivation,” Chu Feng replied.

Wen Xue sighed. “You’re a weird one, Junior Chu Feng.”

“How so?” Chu Feng asked.

“Sometimes, I find you interesting. Other times, you just render me speechless.”

“I don’t like to engage in idle chatter while at work.”

“Got it. I’ll shut up.”

Chu Feng smiled. Despite having known Wen Xue for some time, he still lacked understanding about her. This encounter did give him a better grasp of her personality. She had an old soul in her junior body. While she often acted innocent, she did have an adorable personality.

Just like that, Wen Xue sprinted across the forest with Chu Feng for two whole hours before the scenery before them brightened up.

A lake appeared before their eyes.

A glowing white lotus that was over a thousand meters tall floated in the middle of the lake. It resembled a beautiful artwork, and there was no doubt that it was something extraordinary. Its petals were transparent, revealing a beautiful meter long bug sleeping inside.

The lotus was transparent, so a meter-long bug could be seen inside.

“That’s the one, Junior Chu Feng! That’s the thing I’m looking for. Can you acquire it for me?” Wen Xue tugged Chu Feng’s sleeve as she pointed at the lotus. She looked like a child who had just seen something she fancied.

In truth, she could sense danger lurking in the lotus.

“Senior, do you want the bug or the lotus?” Chu Feng asked.

“The lotus,” Wen Xue replied.

“Actually, the mission in this realm is to collect a gu. The bug inside that lotus is an excellent gu. Since you want the lotus, I’ll take that gu,” Chu Feng said.

“Do you have a solution?” Wen Xue’s eyes lit up.

“Of course. Watch me.”

Chu Feng placed the tree down, and the tree swiftly grew to its full glory. Its branches crackled with lightning as it abruptly stretched outward to attack the lotus.

Weng!

As the lightning branches drew close, the lotus suddenly conjured a brilliant light sphere around it that vaporized everything within range.

But Chu Feng was already prepared for that. He used the tree’s endless regeneration to launch a ceaseless stream of attacks against the lotus.

“Junior Chu Feng, are you all right?” Wen Xue was worried, knowing that this fighting style would place a burden on Chu Feng’s consciousness.

“Don’t worry, I can hold on,” Chu Feng replied with a confident smile.

The light sphere steadily weakened under the relentless assault of the lightning branches, till it completely dissipated four hours later.

Chu Feng retracted the lightning branches, but his attack wasn’t over yet. The tree released a stream of hypnotic energy against the lotus, and the lotus began to diminish in size.

“Junior Chu Feng, what are you doing now?” Wen Xue asked out of curiosity.

“The lotus still retains its offensive prowess even though it is no longer protected by that light sphere, but based on what I have observed, its offensive ability declines as it shrinks. My tree happens to have a power that curbs it. I can hypnotize it and make it diminish in size,” Chu Feng replied.

“You’re so reliable, Junior Chu Feng! No wonder Zi Ling is devoted to you, even though she’s so beautiful. I’d want a man like you, too!” Wen Xue complimented Chu Feng.

“You can withhold your compliments for later. Nothing is for certain until we obtain the lotus and the gu,” Chu Feng replied.

“Nothing will go wrong with you around.” Wen Xue completely trusted Chu Feng.

Six hours later, the lotus became less than a meter tall, and the gu had shrunk so much that it couldn’t be seen unless one paid close attention.

Chu Feng stopped the stream of hypnotic energy.

It was time to harvest the lotus.

“Chu Feng, I’ll be taking the gu you picked with great care,” Jie Tianran’s voice suddenly echoed from above.

The space above them suddenly warped, and the red monstrous beast appeared out of thin air. Jie Tianran and the entity were riding on it.

“Jie Tianran?” Chu Feng and Wen Xue’s faces darkened.

It would appear that Jie Tianran had been here all along, but how did they conceal themselves? Did they acquire new powers here?

But this wasn’t the time to be thinking about that, for the red monstrous beast was about to devour the lotus whole!

“Screw you, Jie Tianran!”

A brilliant burst of white light enveloped the lotus. It was from Wen Xue.

“Senior, didn’t you fail to obtain a bloodline power?” Chu Feng asked.

“Cut the crap and help me snatch the lotus over!” Wen Xue exclaimed. She was so anxious that she infused her bloodline power into Chu Feng’s tree as well, greatly raising its fighting prowess.

Chu Feng immediately channeled the tree to attack Jie Tianran and the red monstrous beast.

But for some reason, the red monstrous beast had grown stronger. Even with the infusion of Wen Xue’s bloodline power, the tree was still only barely a match for the red monstrous beast.

But as time passed, Chu Feng’s consciousness weakened, and Wen Xue’s expression distorted in pain. It would appear that using her bloodline power took a toll on Wen Xue.

“Lass, you care a lot about this lotus. It must be your agenda for entering this remnant. That’s more reason for me to take this lotus.” Jie Tianran was vindictive. He had been wanting to get back at Wen Xue for insulting him, and this was his chance.

Wen Xue formed a hand seal, and the white light reappeared stronger than ever. However, her consciousness flickered, and it looked like she would disintegrate at any moment. Nevertheless, her eyes hardened with determination. She would fight Jie Tianran to the bitter end for the lotus.

“Forget it, senior. Let’s not stoop down to their level. We can always turn the tables on them as long as we continue living. It won’t be worthwhile to give our lives away for those two old things,” Chu Feng said.

“That won’t do! How dare they steal my things?!” Wen Xue clenched her teeth in anger, but her consciousness grew even more unstable.

“Forget it, senior. Jie Tianran is a mad dog. There’s no point pitting it out with him. You won’t bite a dog just because a dog bites you, right?” Chu Feng added.

“Hold on. You...” It belatedly struck Wen Xue that Chu Feng was using her words against her.
