’She never liked kids to begin with, let alone someone else’s!’

’Besides, Charles Prescott himself was partly to blame for her resentment toward him.’

’After they got married, he wouldn’t even spare her a second glance, as if being married to her was some kind of torture!’

’She was unhappy about it, so naturally she wanted to find a way to get under his skin!’

Charles Prescott said, "Make no mistake, this is my house! And I own it!"

He was the one who bought this house back then.

In fact, although Mia Shaw was wealthy, with her current means, buying this house would have been very difficult.

After all, houses in Veridia were ridiculously expensive.

She herself only lived in a high-rise apartment a little over one hundred square meters.

After hearing Charles Prescott, Mia Shaw said, "So what? Don’t you have to rely on me to get into the company now? I’m your wife. It’s your house, so it’s my right to live here. I just can’t stand Leo, so what? Why should I have to raise your kid for you? This is all a mess of your own making! No wonder Anne Sutton left you over this child!"

Mia Shaw had barely finished speaking when Charles Prescott grabbed her by the throat.

Looking at her, he said, "Don’t you mention her."

Mia Shaw mentioning Anne Sutton at this moment was undoubtedly rubbing salt in his wound.

’The more Charles Prescott thought about it now, the more he felt that offending Anne Sutton back then and causing her to leave him had been a terrible mistake.’

’Perhaps, if she hadn’t been so defiant back then, if she hadn’t gotten together with Nathan Fawcett, everything would be different today!’

’He would still be with the Fawcett Family. Maybe Nathan Fawcett would be dead by now. Maybe... he would still be the heir to the Fawcett fortune!’

’But now, all of that was gone!’

’It was too late for regrets!’

Mia Shaw looked at Charles Prescott and realized he was genuinely angry. She said, "What are you doing, choking me? You get angry the moment I mention Anne Sutton! Why didn’t you say anything to her face today? You saw her with Nathan Fawcett and didn’t even dare to make a peep! Charles Prescott, you’re a failure of a man, you get it? You only deserve to be with someone like me!"

Charles Prescott had to admit, Mia Shaw had really gotten under his skin.

She knew his sore spots and was deliberately pressing on them.

He gritted his teeth and said, "I can’t be bothered to argue with you about this, but I’m warning you, if you lay a hand on Leo again, I won’t let you get away with it."

Mia Shaw fell silent. His grip was so strong she could barely breathe, and for a moment, she almost thought Charles Prescott was actually going to strangle her.

But he didn’t.

After he’d had his say, he released her.

...

Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett had finished their work for the day. On the way home, Ian was already asleep.

Anne Sutton sat to one side, quietly looking at the night scenery outside. Nathan Fawcett looked at her and asked, "Why so quiet?"

’She doesn’t seem to be in a very good mood tonight.’

’She’s been so quiet.’

Anne Sutton said, "I was wondering how Sharon is doing."

Hearing her, Nathan Fawcett said, "Why are you thinking about her? Haven’t you two been spending time together recently?"

’You were just with her this afternoon, and you’re already missing her?’

Nathan Fawcett wasn’t an idiot; he could tell something was on her mind.

Nathan Fawcett said to Anne Sutton, "What, are you still upset about Charles Prescott?"

Hearing this, Anne Sutton gave him a somewhat resigned look. "You don’t actually believe what Caleb Summers said, do you? That I’m upset because I’m hung up on old feelings and can’t let go of Charles Prescott?"

When Caleb Summers had said that earlier, Anne Sutton had wanted to strangle him!

Nathan Fawcett remained silent.

Anne Sutton said, "If that’s what you think, then all I can say is that I’m very disappointed in you. I just don’t want to do things that I hate."

Nathan Fawcett stopped the car at a red light, squeezed her hand, and said, "It’s all in the past. If you don’t like it, we won’t do things like that anymore. Besides, Charles Prescott is getting what he deserves now. From what I can see, his life with Mia Shaw isn’t exactly a walk in the park."

Hearing Nathan Fawcett’s words, Anne Sutton recalled what Caleb Summers had said about Mia Shaw cheating on Charles Prescott, and she couldn’t help but chuckle.

Nathan Fawcett asked, "What’s so funny?"

Anne Sutton said, "I just find it ironic. I never expected Charles Prescott to end up this miserable. I’ve known him for a long time, and from what I remember, I’ve never seen him so pathetic."

Marrying Mia Shaw for his career was one thing, but to get cheated on as well...

Even the average person wouldn’t be able to stand that!

Nathan Fawcett said, "It’s what he deserves! You don’t need to feel sorry for him."

"I don’t feel sorry for him," Anne Sutton said. "I just find it hard to believe, that’s all. Maybe it’s because I was so used to seeing him all smug and arrogant. You have no idea how full of himself the Charles Prescott I knew was, back around the time I met you."

It was like he had all of Westhaven in the palm of his hand; he didn’t give a damn about anyone else.

Back then, the Sutton Family lived in his shadow, terrified of offending him.

Sean Sutton was always telling Anne Sutton to be nicer to Charles Prescott.

It got to the point where, for a while, Anne Sutton would obey his every whim.

Nathan Fawcett said to Anne Sutton, "Let’s not talk about him anymore. It’s a downer."

Anne Sutton glanced at him and nodded. "Okay."

She was getting a little sleepy too.

...

Nathan Fawcett asked, "Do you have work tomorrow?"

"I can still take tomorrow off," Anne Sutton said. "But I don’t have anything to do, so I might as well go to work."

When the two of them got home, they saw Lana Langley and Ryan Linden talking as soon as they walked through the main gate.

Lana Langley snatched Donna away from Ryan Linden, demanding defensively, "Where did you take our daughter?"

Seeing Lana Langley looking at him so defensively, Ryan Linden said, "Are you crazy? I’m her father. Is it wrong for me to want to spend time with my own daughter?"

He hadn’t brought Donna back for a while, so Lana Langley had been calling him nonstop.

He was still hoping to get this woman to come home with him, so naturally, he didn’t dare to truly anger her.

Lana Langley said, "Don’t come looking for her if you don’t have a reason. Donna doesn’t want to be with you at all."

"What’s that supposed to mean?" Ryan Linden said. "You just dump her at home all day and don’t even look after her, but you won’t let me come see my own daughter?"

Noticing Lana Langley was dressed very nicely, Ryan Linden looked at her. "Have you lost weight?"

Hearing his question, Lana Langley shot him a look. "A little. So what?"

On top of that, she had started a job and was paying attention to her appearance. She had recently begun to dress up more, and her whole aura had changed.

Ryan Linden looked at the woman before him and began to wonder if this was really his wife.

She was so different from before!

Although she was still a bit heavy, he found her much easier on the eyes now.

Ryan Linden cleared his throat and said, "So when are you finally planning to come home with me? You can’t just live here forever!"

Lana Langley said, "What home? I don’t have a home! If I go back, I’ll just have to slave away for you again, and that’s not even the worst of it! You squandered the only house we ever had! I don’t want to go back! Let’s get a divorce!"

Lana Langley had recently started working. Her educational background was decent, and she was capable...
