"You haven’t offended me!" Caleb Summers said. "So I’m being quite polite to you, aren’t I? I’m not targeting you."

"...I’m taking Charles Prescott with me! What, we can’t leave? If this is how it’s going to be, I’ll have to call the police!"

"Go ahead," Caleb Summers said. "I’m not stopping him, am I, Mr. Prescott?"

Charles Prescott looked at Caleb Summers without saying a word.

Mia Shaw said, "Let’s go!"

After speaking, she grabbed Charles Prescott’s hand and started to walk out.

Watching this scene, Caleb Summers’s natural impulse was to stop them.

Nathan Fawcett, standing to the side, shot him a look.

Only then did Caleb Summers hold himself back.

Seeing Mia Shaw lead Charles Prescott away, Caleb Summers walked over and said, "Nathan, how could you just let them go like that? I wasn’t done playing yet!"

"That’s enough," Nathan Fawcett said. "What, do you really think you’re some kind of hooligan, trying to stir up real trouble?"

"What’s the big deal?" Caleb Summers said. "I just can’t stand the sight of him! I mean, come on, his dad was just an adopted son in your family, yet he’s still so arrogant! A disloyal person like that needs to be taught a good lesson, so he learns who’s boss."

Nathan Fawcett said, "Your sister-in-law doesn’t like it. Don’t pull this kind of stunt again."

Caleb Summers’s gaze fell on Anne Sutton. He looked at her and said, "I couldn’t tell that you were still carrying a torch for him, sister-in-law!"

"What did you say?" Anne Sutton snapped, looking at Caleb Summers.

’She knew he had a big mouth, but what he just said was truly unforgivable!’

Standing beside them, Nathan Fawcett glared at him. Caleb Summers quickly called his friends over to continue their fun.

...

Mia Shaw dragged Charles Prescott outside. Only after they had left Caleb Summers’s territory did she look him over. "How are you? Are you okay?"

Charles Prescott raised his arm and wrenched his hand free from her grasp. "What are you doing here?" he said.

Seeing his icy expression, Mia Shaw said, "Giving me the cold shoulder, are you? Why didn’t you give them the cold shoulder back there? Charles Prescott, if I hadn’t come to save you today, you wouldn’t have even known what hit you."

Hearing her words, Charles Prescott found them somewhat laughable. "You say that as if... I’m supposed to be grateful to you!"

"You damn well should be grateful to me!" Mia Shaw retorted to Charles Prescott. "Look around all of Veridia! Who else is willing to get tangled up with a mess like you? People can’t run away from you fast enough!"

"Oh, I should definitely thank you. For cheating on me."

’He remembered how Caleb Summers had mocked him today...’

’Especially being taunted in front of Anne Sutton. It made Charles Prescott feel utterly humiliated.’

’Back when he was on top of the world, he never felt self-conscious in front of Anne Sutton.’

’But now that he had fallen so low, being in front of her just made him feel like a complete disgrace!’

’If he had a choice, he would never want to appear before Anne Sutton at all!’

...

After saying his piece to Mia Shaw, Charles Prescott walked away.

Mia Shaw stood rooted to the spot, absolutely furious.

Vic came out from inside and asked, "How did it go?"

"It’s fine now," Mia Shaw said to Vic. "Thank you for coming all this way with me today."

’She was so good to Charles Prescott, yet he didn’t appreciate it in the slightest.’

When Charles Prescott got home, Sylvia Warren was there.

She had come to see Leo.

Right then, she was holding Leo in her arms.

Seeing her, Charles Prescott asked, "What are you doing here?"

"Leo called me and said he wasn’t feeling well, so I came to check on him." Sylvia Warren’s gaze fell on Charles Prescott, and seeing his somewhat disheveled state, she asked, "What happened to you?"

Someone had poured wine on him, and he looked a mess.

Hearing her question, Charles Prescott didn’t respond and went upstairs to change his clothes.

In her arms, Leo murmured, "Mommy."

Sylvia Warren asked, "What’s wrong?"

"Hurts," Leo said pitifully.

Sylvia Warren looked at her son and said, "Where does it hurt? Mommy will take you to the hospital to get it checked out."

As a celebrity, it was very inconvenient for her to go to a place like the hospital.

But now that her son was sick, she had no other choice.

Sylvia Warren waited for a while, but when Charles Prescott didn’t come back down, she went upstairs to find him.

Seeing that his bedroom door was closed, she knocked.

Charles Prescott had taken a shower and changed his clothes. Seeing her at his door, he said, "What are you doing?"

Sylvia Warren said, "Leo isn’t feeling well. Don’t you want to come take him to the hospital? I’m afraid I can’t handle it by myself."

’She was getting quite famous now and was afraid of causing a scene.’

Charles Prescott said, "I don’t have the energy. Have Henry Underwood go with you."

Looking at his cold demeanor, Sylvia Warren said, "Mr. Prescott, Leo is in your care right now. Can you actually take good care of him or not? He’s sick and you don’t even care? If you’re going to be like this, you might as well just give him to me!"

"..." Hearing that she wanted their son, Charles Prescott looked at her and found it laughable. "What’s this? Seeing that I’ve fallen on hard times, you... you want to come and cause trouble for me too?"

Sylvia Warren was speechless.

’Of course, that wasn’t what she meant at all!’

’She just felt he was being incredibly irresponsible toward Leo, and on top of that, he wouldn’t even let her see him.’

’Today, she had only managed to muster up the courage to come over after getting Leo’s call and being unable to reach Charles Prescott on his phone.’

’And for some reason, Charles Prescott hadn’t thrown her out today!’

’Normally, he definitely would have told her to leave immediately!’

With no other option, Sylvia Warren took Leo to the hospital, and Henry Underwood went with them.

...

At the hospital, the doctor examined Leo. When his clothes were taken off, his body was covered in marks from being beaten. Seeing this, Sylvia Warren simply couldn’t believe her eyes. "How could this happen?"

’He was clearly beaten!’

Sylvia Warren looked at Leo and said, "Sweetie, tell Mommy, who hit you?"

Leo said, "I can’t say."

’Looking at his pitiful state, Sylvia thought, no wonder he kept saying he was in pain today...’

’And he was too scared to tell anyone about it!’

Sylvia Warren’s gaze fell on Henry Underwood. "Is this how your President Prescott takes care of a child?"

Henry Underwood said, "President Prescott is busy with work and is usually at the office. He doesn’t know about this."

’No matter what, Charles Prescott would never go so far as to hit a child!’

’Henry Underwood already had an idea of who was responsible.’

Sylvia Warren and Henry Underwood brought Leo back home. Mia Shaw had already returned.

She was sitting on the sofa, and when she saw Sylvia Warren walk in, her face instantly darkened. "What are you doing here?"

’This woman had Charles Prescott’s child; the whole world knew it!’

’Besides, back then, if Sylvia Warren hadn’t shown up and caused trouble, her engagement to Charles Prescott would have gone smoothly.’

’And now that she was married to Charles Prescott, this woman still dared to show her face here!’

This made Mia Shaw furious.

Sylvia Warren said to Mia Shaw, "Mia Shaw, I’m asking you, were you the one who caused the bruises on Leo’s body?"

Hearing this, Mia Shaw raised an eyebrow. "What are you talking about? I don’t understand!"

"You don’t understand?" Sylvia Warren lifted Leo’s shirt. Mia Shaw looked at the bruises on Leo’s body. On such a small child, the injuries were shockingly clear.

Seeing them made Sylvia’s heart, a mother’s heart, clench in pain. "You look like a decent human being, so how could you be so vicious? How could you do something like this?"
