Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 421: It’s All Your Fault
After all, no one expected Yvonne Evans to suddenly show up and make such a mess of things.
Anne Sutton said, "I just hope she can get through this quickly."
The baby was important, but her health was important too.
Anne Sutton went back to the Sutton family home with Nathan Fawcett.
The two of them entered the house, and Anne Sutton sat on the sofa, clearly in low spirits.
Nathan Fawcett’s gaze fell on her. "If you’re tired, go to sleep."
Anne Sutton looked at Nathan, stood up, and said, "Are you hungry? I can make you some breakfast."
She had been dizzy with exhaustion all night and wasn’t really in the mood for anything now.
Nathan Fawcett reached out, grabbed her hand, and pulled her into his arms. "Not hungry! Come on, let’s go to sleep first. I’m tired! We can eat when we wake up."
After speaking, he wrapped his arms around her, swept her up, and carried her upstairs.
Anne Sutton wrapped her arms around his neck, looking at the man carrying her. "Am I heavy?"
Nathan Fawcett said, "You’re fine. I can manage."
A smile played on Anne Sutton’s lips. "I just realized, Nathan, you’re so different now! You’re not that frail man you used to be anymore!"
’I remember when we used to sleep together, I was always afraid he’d suddenly drop dead in bed.’
Not like now, where he could actually carry her upstairs.
"Frail?" Nathan Fawcett looked at her, clearly displeased with her description.
Anne Sutton said, "What’s wrong? I was talking about the past, not now..."
Hearing her words, Nathan Fawcett said, "It’s nothing."
He carried Anne Sutton upstairs and set her down on the bed.
Anne Sutton sat on the edge of the bed and said, "You can let go. I’m going to take a shower first."
After being at the hospital all this time, she felt grimy and uncomfortable without a shower.
Nathan Fawcett let her go.
Anne Sutton went to the closet to get a change of clothes, grabbing a set for Nathan Fawcett as well.
They were at the Sutton family home now.
The clothes were left over from their previous stays.
Anne Sutton took a shower before coming back to rest.
Since David Hayes and his family had been driven away, the only people taking care of Sharon Sutton at the hospital were Anne and her mother.
As for anyone else, who knew what their intentions were in coming to the hospital? They didn’t dare let them visit.
So that afternoon, after waking up and having a bite to eat with Nathan Fawcett, Anne Sutton went to the hospital.
She walked through the door and saw Sharon Sutton lying in the hospital bed, looking utterly haggard.
"Sharon."
Hearing Anne Sutton’s voice, Sharon Sutton looked up at her and said, "Sis."
Her voice was hoarse.
Anne Sutton asked, "What’s wrong?"
With red-rimmed eyes, Sharon Sutton asked, "When you lost your baby... how did you get through it?"
"..." Her question made Anne Sutton’s heart clench.
Before Anne Sutton could answer, Sharon Sutton lowered her head and mumbled to herself, "I should have been there for you more back then! It’s all my fault. I didn’t take good enough care of you."
Now that she was going through it herself, she finally understood how hard it must have been for her sister.
Anne Sutton looked at her and said, "Sharon, it’s in the past. All the bad things will pass. You’re still young. You’ll meet someone better, and you’ll have children again!"
"I won’t," Sharon Sutton said. "He betrayed all my trust and destroyed all my hopes. Why is it that no matter how much you give, you get nothing in return?"
She had poured her entire youth into one man, David Hayes.
She had always thought that if she just gave enough, she would eventually be rewarded.
But as it turned out...
That wasn’t the case at all.
No matter how hard she tried, he never cherished her efforts. He just thought she was an idiot.
He even saw her as the one who broke him and Lucy Todd up!
But she hadn’t even known Lucy Todd existed before!
She had no idea he was involved with that woman.
When she had wanted to leave, he was the one who came begging her to get back together.
Anne Sutton said, "When you’re with the wrong person, you have to cut your losses. Breaking up with him now is exactly that. After you leave him, your life can’t possibly get any worse!"
"..." Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, Sharon Sutton lowered her head and stared silently at her fingers.
Anne Sutton looked at her and said, "Don’t be sad, Sharon. Look at Mom... she’s doing just fine now! She dedicated her whole life to Sean Sutton, and she’s doing fine. You’re still so young. You’ll be okay."
"Yeah."
Although Anne Sutton tried to comfort her, Sharon Sutton’s mood didn’t improve.
Looking at this scene, Anne Sutton sighed helplessly.
She stepped out and said to Nathan Fawcett, "You should go take care of your business. I’ll stay here and keep Sharon company. Don’t you have things to do back in Veridia? You can head back first."
Ian needs looking after over there, too.
Because of yesterday’s emergency, Nathan Fawcett had come with her.
But now things were more or less settled.
Nathan Fawcett asked, "Are you sure you’ll be okay here by yourself?"
"What could happen?" Anne Sutton smiled. "I’m doing much better now, don’t worry!"
Nathan Fawcett looked at her, reached out, and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "Alright, then. I’ll head back first. If you need anything, call Noah. Don’t hesitate."
"I will."
Nathan Fawcett left the hospital and went straight back to Veridia. He was too busy, and Sharon Sutton’s situation wasn’t going to be resolved anytime soon.
Sharon Sutton had to stay in the hospital for several days, and Anne Sutton couldn’t just leave her there alone or dump everything on Mrs. Sutton.
So she took time off work to stay and keep Sharon company.
That night, Anne Sutton stayed with her in the hospital room.
Sharon Sutton was holding her phone, looking at the messages David Hayes had sent her.
It was just more of the same—him saying he knew he was wrong, apologizing, and so on.
Sharon Sutton looked at them and found it laughable.
’I remember the first time I found out about him and Lucy Todd. I even tried to kill myself over it, and he apologized to me just like this back then!’
But what happened after that?
Later...
’All my love just went to waste.’
’He played me for such a fool!’
Anne Sutton sat to the side, saw that the messages were from David Hayes, and didn’t say a word.
Sharon Sutton put down her phone and stopped looking at it.
Only then did Anne Sutton breathe a sigh of relief.
After all, seeing messages from that scumbag at a time like this was just a waste of energy and an emotional drain.
Lucy Todd walked over with a freshly made dinner and offered it to David Hayes. "David, have something to eat. You haven’t eaten all day."
David Hayes looked up at her. "Take it away. I have no appetite."
"You have to eat even if you don’t have an appetite!"
David Hayes’s gaze fell on Lucy Todd. "This is all your fault! If you hadn’t kept showing up, things wouldn’t have turned out like this! I’ve lost my job now. Are you happy?"
Hearing David’s words, Lucy Todd asked, "How is Sharon? Why don’t I go to the hospital to see her? I’ll explain things to her. It’s all my fault, so you can’t be blamed, right?"
David Hayes looked at the woman, irritated. He used to have such a great future, and now he had nothing.
