Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 416: Truly Wonderful
’If she runs to Anne Sutton and complains, I’ll be toast...’
That afternoon, Sharon Sutton was admitted to the hospital.
David Hayes had specifically taken a few days off work to be with her.
Childbirth is an agonizing experience...
Sharon Sutton lay in bed, in absolute misery.
Mrs. Sutton stayed by her side.
Just then, someone walked in—it was Maya Evans and Yvonne Evans.
Seeing them, Mrs. Sutton froze for a moment. "What are you two doing here?"
Maya Evans said, "We heard Sharon was about to give birth. Her father asked us to come and check on her. As a man, it’s not convenient for him to go into the delivery room."
Mrs. Sutton said coldly, "That won’t be necessary. Please leave immediately!"
Yvonne Evans retorted, "If Dad hadn’t asked us to, we wouldn’t have wanted to come! We even brought gifts."
They placed the things they bought on the table.
Mrs. Sutton looked at the mother-daughter duo. "We really don’t need them."
’They’re just here to make us sick!’
Maya Evans said, "Mina, don’t be like that. We’re genuinely concerned about Sharon. No matter what, Mr. Sutton is still her father, right? Giving birth is a major life event, so what’s wrong with me coming to show some concern on his behalf? It’s not like I’m going to eat her."
Mrs. Sutton said, "Do you think we’d feel comfortable with you here?"
Maya Evans replied, "It’s been so many years since my affair with Mr. Sutton. It can’t be helped. Besides, you’re divorced now anyway! I’m actually jealous of you, getting so much money from the settlement."
"That was what I deserved. Your jealousy is useless."
"Yes, yes, of course!" Maya Evans said.
She looked at Sharon Sutton on the hospital bed and said, "Sharon, giving birth is very hard. Just bear with it. You’ll get through it."
Sharon Sutton was already in pain. Hearing her words, she barely lifted her eyelids. "Get out. Now."
Yvonne Evans asked, "Your husband isn’t here?"
"None of your business."
"What a scumbag!" Yvonne Evans said indignantly. "He’s probably off with some little homewrecker again."
Hearing this, Sharon Sutton’s eyes turned sharp. "What nonsense are you talking about?"
Yvonne Evans heard her and said, "I’m not talking nonsense. The last time I was out, I saw him arm-in-arm with some woman! I even told Dad about it. Didn’t he tell you? You can’t possibly not know, can you? And you’re still defending him?"
"Get out!" Mrs. Sutton hadn’t expected Yvonne Evans to show up at a time like this and say such things.
’That girl really deserves to die!’
She had kept this a secret because she was afraid Sharon would find out, and now, just as Sharon was about to give birth, this girl shows up.
’She just wants to stir up trouble, doesn’t she?’
Yvonne Evans said, "I’m not lying. It’s true. If you don’t believe me, look!"
She took out her phone, found the photo, and showed it to Sharon Sutton.
Sharon Sutton said, "Bring it here. Let me see."
She didn’t believe a word Yvonne Evans said.
Yvonne Evans brought the phone closer, walking to her bedside. Sharon looked closely and saw that it really was David Hayes. He was walking arm-in-arm with Lucy Todd, looking very intimate...
And it clearly happened recently!
Heh heh heh...
David Hayes...
David Hayes!
It was really him!
’So when he didn’t come home every day, it was because he was with Lucy Todd?’
She even remembered the clothes he was wearing—it was what he wore the day he came back from Veridia!
’I can’t believe he’s that kind of man!’
...
Anne Sutton was at work in the hospital today. She was busy when a phone rang, and her assistant brought her the call. "Dr. Sutton, a call for you."
Anne Sutton asked, "Who is it?"
"It seems to be from Westhaven Hospital."
"..." Anne Sutton freed a hand and took the call. It was a friend from her own hospital. "Anne, something’s happened to your sister!"
"..." Anne Sutton’s heart skipped a beat. "How is she?"
She knew Sharon Sutton was giving birth today, but since she wasn’t there, she couldn’t be of much help.
Getting a call at a time like this, Anne Sutton couldn’t help but fear the worst.
Over the phone, the doctor sounded helpless. "Her baby... we couldn’t save him. The situation was critical. There was nothing we could do."
Sharon Sutton had suffered a severe shock...
To save her life, they couldn’t save the child.
Now, the hospital was in chaos.
Mrs. Hayes had arrived and was making a scene in the hallway, screaming, "Where’s my grandson? Give me back my grandson! The baby was perfectly healthy before, what happened?"
A nurse looked at her with a helpless expression. "We did everything we could!"
"Everything you could? What does that even mean? Why didn’t you save my grandson? Aren’t you doctors? Why didn’t you ask me whether to save the mother or the child? You just made the decision for us?"
"Have you been watching too much TV?" The nurse was speechless as she looked at her.
The hospital’s priority is always the adult’s life, no matter the situation.
’It’s not like what they show on TV at all!’
Mrs. Hayes said, "I don’t care! This isn’t over."
Just then, Sharon Sutton was wheeled out. Mrs. Hayes looked at her on the gurney, her face dark, and spat, "You useless thing! The baby is gone, so what are you still doing alive?"
Mrs. Sutton was standing nearby. When she heard Mrs. Hayes’s words, her expression darkened. "What did you say?"
Yvonne Evans and Maya Evans were there too. Witnessing this scene, Maya Evans curled her lip in a smirk. Tsk tsk. ’Seeing Sharon Sutton marry into a family like this just makes me so happy!’
’Compared to Mina Ford, it feels like I’ve won again!’
’After all, my daughter listens to me. She would never marry such a pathetic man!’
’And she certainly wouldn’t choose in-laws that cause so much trouble!’
Seeing that Mrs. Sutton was alone, Mrs. Hayes wasn’t afraid of her and showed her no respect. "This is clearly your fault! You were here in the hospital looking after her, so how did you do it? How could something happen to the baby! If you don’t compensate me for this grandson, I won’t let you off!"
After all, she had been looking forward to it for so long, thinking she was about to have a grandson. The baby had been healthy during all the previous check-ups, so she never expected a problem like this.
Of course she was going to demand justice!
The baby couldn’t be brought back, but the Sutton Family had to compensate her family!
Mrs. Sutton said, "I’m not discussing this with you right now."
Right now, she was only worried about Sharon Sutton. She didn’t want to deal with anything else!
And she certainly didn’t want to concern herself with David Hayes at a time like this.
After all, nothing was more important than her own daughter’s life.
...
The nurses had already moved Sharon Sutton to a ward.
But Mrs. Hayes was relentless. She grabbed Mrs. Sutton and said, "You won’t talk to me now because you have a guilty conscience and nothing to say, right? Let me tell you, don’t think you can get away with anything after harming my grandson! You’re just trying to evade responsibility."
"Let go of me!" Mrs. Sutton reached out and shoved Mrs. Hayes away.
Mrs. Hayes stumbled back from the push, growing even angrier. She lunged forward and grabbed Mrs. Sutton’s hair. "How dare you push me! We’re settling this right now."
Yvonne Evans stood beside her mother and said, "Mom, this is so exciting!"
Maya Evans said, "Don’t get involved."
This was exactly the kind of scene she wanted to see. She would never step in to help.
Just then, someone came over, grabbed hold of Mrs. Hayes, and rescued Mrs. Sutton.
