After he left, Charles Prescott looked at Anne Sutton and said, "Do you really want me to give him a promotion? Or is there something else you mean by this?"

"What other meaning could there be?" Anne Sutton asked.

’This man has a surprisingly suspicious mind!’

Charles Prescott said, "Don’t you dislike him? I thought you were just saying that to be polite and couldn’t bring yourself to refuse. I can just drag out the process for him."

"No need," Anne Sutton said. "Given his abilities, what kind of job can we arrange for him? Preferably one where he can truly shine."

Hearing Anne’s words, Charles Prescott’s lips twitched. "What do you mean?"

"Aren’t his academic qualifications decent enough?"

"Who in our company doesn’t have a good degree? He might have been fine in school, but that’s as far as it goes. There are plenty of people better than him, and his university wasn’t exactly top-tier."

Hearing this, Anne Sutton said, "Just do your best to place him in a role he can handle. And make sure the terms are the best we can offer."

Charles Prescott asked, "Going to such lengths for your sister?"

Anne Sutton glanced at him. "Can you do it or not?"

"Since it’s an order from the chairwoman, I’ll do as you say," Charles Prescott said. "I’ll do my best to find him a well-paying position that he can actually handle. But what are you up to?"

Anne Sutton replied, "What could I possibly be up to?"

Charles Prescott’s lips twitched. Seeing that Anne wouldn’t be straight with him, he said, "Fine, let’s leave it at that. I’m heading out. I’ve been exhausted these past couple of days."

During the Spring Festival, Ethan Linden got to sit around and do nothing, but not him. He had to go with his father to sweep the graves.

After finishing with the Fawcett family’s graves, he still had to go do his own family’s.

The Fawcetts had it easy. They didn’t have to lift a finger.

All the grunt work was left to him!

Still, he was grateful just to be able to remain at the Fawcett Group.

Anne Sutton watched his retreating figure but said nothing.

Only after Charles Prescott had left did Nathan Fawcett come over. "How did your chat go?" he asked.

"We didn’t talk about much," Anne Sutton said. "He suspected I wasn’t being sincere about helping David Hayes, but I told him I was serious and that he should find a good position for him."

Nathan Fawcett looked at her. "You have to arrange a really good one, the kind that will leave him with no complaints about you. If you’re going to help someone, you have to go all the way!"

Hearing this, Anne Sutton nodded. "Exactly. If he gets a great job and still treats Sharon well, then I’ll just have to admit I was blind."

But...

Anne Sutton didn’t believe for a second that he would be good to Sharon.

She trusted her intuition. It wouldn’t be wrong.

’A guy like David Hayes...’

’Give him a taste of the good life, and he’ll probably forget his own name!’

Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne. "Leave it to you to set someone up for a fall like this."

This way, she wouldn’t offend Sharon Sutton, and she could also help Sharon see David Hayes’s true colors.

Anne looked at the man who had seen right through her. "I do hope they work out."

...

After spending two more days there, on the fourth day of the new year, Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett took Ian and her mother back to Veridia.

Anna Linden was displeased that Nathan Fawcett had been away in Westhaven for several days, so she had her assistant call and tell him to return.

With relatives coming and going for the Spring Festival, Nathan’s absence meant Anna Linden had to face them all alone, and she’d been annoyed about it for a while.

...

At the airport, Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "I’m going to take my mom to my place first. You can take Ian back with you."

"I don’t want to," Ian said. "I want to go with Mom."

’He didn’t want to be separated from Anne!’

Anne glanced at him. "All right, then. You can come with me, and we’ll let your dad go home by himself."

Anne glanced at Nathan Fawcett. "Is that okay with you?"

"Sure," Nathan Fawcett said. "I’ll head back first and come see you all later."

Anne nodded.

They parted ways after leaving the airport.

Nathan Fawcett had arranged for a car to take Anne and the others to her house.

Anne led Mrs. Sutton inside.

She showed her mother around, explaining everything.

It wasn’t Ian’s first time visiting, however.

He had already seen the place before.

Anne had set her mother up in a room on the second floor.

She had called ahead to have the room cleaned for her mother’s arrival.

Anne said, "Mom, take a look at the room. If there’s anything you’re not happy with, just let me know, and I’ll have it changed."

Mrs. Sutton looked at her. "It looks lovely. If I think of anything, I’ll let you know."

Anne nodded. "Okay."

Mrs. Sutton asked, "You weren’t living here before?"

"No, I wasn’t," Anne said. "I was staying with the Linden family to take care of Ian. But now that you’re here, I’ll stay here to keep you company."

Ian piped up, "Mom, what about my room? I want to stay with you too."

Anne smiled at the little guy. "Don’t worry, yours has been ready for a long time."

When she bought this house, Anne had no intention of getting together with Nathan Fawcett.

Her plan at the time was to get Ian away from Nathan Fawcett and raise him on her own.

That was why she had prepared a room for Ian from the very beginning.

Mrs. Sutton looked at Anne. "Oh, by the way, now that I’m here, I don’t have anything to do. I was thinking of opening a small business. What do you think?"

Hearing her mother’s words, Anne’s lips curved into a smile. "That’s a great idea! What kind of place are you thinking of opening?"

"Just a restaurant," Mrs. Sutton said. "Serving Westhaven cuisine."

’She was divorced now, anyway, and she had the money.’

’Opening a restaurant would be a perfect way to pass the time.’

Hearing her mother, Anne said, "Of course! Once you’ve had some rest and have gotten used to things here, we can go look for a commercial space."

Mrs. Sutton nodded. "Okay."

Before the divorce, her entire day had revolved around her family. She was always worried they would come home from a long day out and not have a hot meal waiting for them.

She’d never once thought about herself.

Now that she was divorced, with nothing to do and no family to look after, she thought about it and realized it wasn’t that she had no ambitions of her own.

’She’d had so many things she wanted to do when she was young. How had all those years of marriage ground all the spirit out of her?’

Nathan Fawcett returned to the Linden residence.

When he arrived, he saw Anna Linden entertaining several relatives.

Seeing him return, everyone greeted him, "Ethan."

Anna Linden glanced up at him. ’The man who disappeared on New Year’s Eve finally decides to show his face on the fourth day of the festival.’

’If she hadn’t had Chloe Chase call him, he probably would have stayed there for a few more days.’

Nathan walked over and greeted everyone, adopting Ethan Linden’s tone.

Then he went upstairs.

He had just reached the top of the stairs when Anna Linden followed him. "Had your fun in Westhaven?"

Hearing his mother’s words, Nathan glanced at her and said, "I took Ian out for a while. He wanted to see his mother."

Anna Linden stared at him. "I’ve arranged for you to meet a doctor. We’ll have dinner together later so you can get acquainted. I told him about your situation, and he said... he can handle it."

"What situation?" Nathan asked.
