Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Chapter 320: Can’t Go Back for Dinner With Her

  • Next Chapter

When Nathan Fawcett heard his mother, he said, "Mom, I’m actually doing fine right now. You don’t have to go to any trouble."

’Besides, I won’t touch any woman other than Anne Sutton anyway.’

Anna Linden looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "So now that you’re with Anne Sutton, you’ve decided your health doesn’t matter anymore?"

Nathan Fawcett said, "It’s just that it isn’t affecting me right now, so I can’t be bothered to go through the trouble of seeing a doctor again."

His health had always been poor. Growing up, it was a constant cycle of medication and injections, so he had a deep-seated aversion to seeing doctors.

Since it wasn’t affecting him now, he naturally didn’t want to go see a doctor again.

Anna Linden said, "So you don’t care about the person I worked so hard to find for you?"

Hearing his mother and seeing she was getting angry, Nathan Fawcett quickly said, "Okay, okay! I’ll go. All right?"

Only when Anna Linden saw he had agreed did her expression soften slightly.

That afternoon, Anne Sutton was in the kitchen, humming a song as she made dinner.

Her phone suddenly rang.

She wiped her hands, glanced at her phone, and saw a message from Nathan Fawcett: "I’m not coming over for dinner tonight."

Anne Sutton was a little surprised. He had said he was coming.

But he hadn’t been back to his family’s home for days. Now that he had, it was understandable that he would have things to deal with.

Anne Sutton put down her phone and continued cooking. Someone walked over. "Anne."

Anne Sutton looked up and saw Caleb Summers standing in the doorway.

His hair was still long, and he was dressed casually since he was at home.

Anne Sutton asked, "What brings you here?"

"I was just driving by and saw your lights were on, so I dropped in," Caleb Summers said. "When did you get back?"

"Today," Anne Sutton replied.

Caleb Summers said, "What are you doing living here? Where’s Ethan? He ran off to Westhaven to find you a few days ago, didn’t he?"

He had gone with his parents to the Linden Family’s home for a New Year’s visit and hadn’t seen Nathan Fawcett at all.

Anne Sutton nodded. "He did."

Caleb Summers said, "He snuck off to find you without telling anyone. I had no idea."

Anne Sutton glanced at him, a small smile playing on her lips. "And what about you? It’s the New Year. Shouldn’t you be with your family?"

"I was home," Caleb Summers said. "Been there for the past few days. My mom was nagging me constantly, pushing me to get married every chance she got. I got sick of it and had to escape! I didn’t expect to see you back here the second I came over."

He looked down at Ian, who was walking over, and reached out to pat the little boy’s face, a spitting image of Nathan Fawcett’s.

Ian pushed Caleb Summers’ hand away and asked Anne Sutton, "Mommy, when can we eat?"

"Soon," Anne Sutton said. "Go ask Grandma to come down for dinner."

Ian nodded. "Okay."

"Grandma?" Caleb Summers’ gaze landed on Anne Sutton.

Anne Sutton said, "My mom. She came over, too, and she’ll be living here from now on."

Caleb Summers raised an eyebrow. "She’s going to live here by herself?"

Anne Sutton said, "I’m moving in to stay with her."

"So you’re not going back to the Linden family home?"

"We’ll see." ’Even though she and Nathan Fawcett have feelings for each other now...’

’But...’

’They hadn’t gotten to that stage yet, had they?’

’The two of them weren’t even officially together!’

’It wasn’t even like before, when they at least had a marriage certificate. Now, they didn’t even have that!’

Caleb Summers said, "That’s great! Does that mean I can come over for dinner all the time? By the way, is Ethan coming over later?"

"He said he’s having dinner with his mother tonight, so he’s not coming."

Caleb Summers laughed when he heard that. "Oh, he’s definitely going to get chewed out this time."

"Why?" Anne Sutton asked.

Caleb Summers said, "He snuck off to Westhaven without telling his mother. She’s probably ready to kill him. You know how scary Auntie Linden can be."

The mere thought of Anna Linden made Caleb Summers shudder.

Hearing this, Anne Sutton thought of Nathan Fawcett and found it rather endearing.

’A grown man still getting lectured by his mother.’

Anne Sutton looked at Caleb Summers, curious. "She’s not your mom. What are you so afraid of?"

"Why wouldn’t I be?" Caleb Summers said. "Whenever I act up, my mom threatens to send me to the Linden family home and let Auntie Linden discipline me. You tell me, isn’t that terrifying?"

"Okay, that does sound pretty terrifying."

Anne Sutton finished the dishes and was about to carry them out of the kitchen when Caleb Summers, who was determined to stay for a free meal, said, "I’ll get that!"

Seeing that he wanted to help, Anne Sutton didn’t stop him. He was clearly determined to stay and mooch a free dinner, and she wouldn’t be able to kick him out anyway. She might as well let him make himself useful.

Soon, Ian brought Mrs. Sutton downstairs.

Mrs. Sutton didn’t recognize Caleb Summers.

Caleb Summers, on the other hand, was full of enthusiasm. "Hello, Auntie! You’re very beautiful. No wonder Anne is so lovely."

Anne Sutton shot the man a look before turning to her mother to make the introduction. "Mom, he works for Ethan Linden’s company and lives next door."

Mrs. Sutton said to Caleb Summers, "Hello."

Caleb Summers smiled. "I heard Anne was back, so I thought I’d crash dinner."

He was completely unabashed, making himself right at home.

Mrs. Sutton had an easygoing personality herself, so she warmed up to him quickly.

During dinner, Caleb Summers said, "It’s a real shame Ethan couldn’t make it. I guess I’ll just have to eat his portion for him."

Anne Sutton retorted, "What, did your family not feed you over the holiday?"

’He’s eating like a starving man.’

Caleb Summers said, "You have no idea. Every holiday, my mom insists on cooking a huge feast."

"Isn’t that a good thing?"

Caleb Summers looked pained. "But she can’t cook to save her life! Everything she makes is awful, and our whole family lives in fear of it. To make matters worse, she forbids us from eating out!"

Anne Sutton’s lips twitched into a smile at that.

Caleb Summers said, "Nothing like your cooking, Anne. You’re an amazing cook."

Ian, sitting beside them, boasted, "Grandma’s cooking is even yummier."

Anne Sutton shot Ian a look. ’The little traitor. He’s completely on Mom’s side now!’

Caleb Summers said, "Then I’m in for a real treat! I wonder if I’ll get the chance to taste Auntie’s cooking."

"You will," Mrs. Sutton said. "I’m planning to open a restaurant around here."

Caleb Summers looked impressed. "That’s fantastic! If you really open a restaurant, Auntie, I’ll definitely be your first customer. By the way, have you found a space for it yet?"

"We just got here. How could we have found one so quickly?" Anne Sutton rolled her eyes at him.

Caleb Summers said, "Well, I can help with that! I happen to be free tomorrow. I can take you to look at a few places and see if any of them are suitable."

"You have storefronts?"

Caleb Summers said, "I have a few available, and I know other people who do too..."

Anne Sutton said, "Alright, let’s go take a look tomorrow then."

’It would be a hassle to search for one on our own.’

’If one is suitable, they can just settle on it. Besides, Caleb Summers isn’t a stranger.’

’He and Nathan Fawcett are on good terms, so I can trust him.’

After dinner, Caleb Summers took the initiative to wash the dishes. After all, he had crashed their meal, so he felt he should at least do that much.

Once he finished, he took out his phone and sent some pictures of available properties to Mrs. Sutton...
