Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 318: Sister Has Agreed
Nathan Fawcett looked at her and sighed helplessly.
’He had thought that since they finally moved Ian out tonight, he could have some quality time with her.’
’But seeing her like this, how could he be in the mood?’
...
The next morning, Anne Sutton got up and called Sharon Sutton.
David Hayes answered. When he heard it was Anne Sutton, he handed the phone to Sharon Sutton. Sharon glanced at it and took the call.
David Hayes stood to the side, staring at Sharon Sutton.
When she heard Anne Sutton say that she had already arranged a job for David Hayes, Sharon Sutton’s expression softened considerably. "Thank you, sis. I was too impulsive and immature last night. I shouldn’t have said those things."
"It’s fine," Anne Sutton said.
’She’s thanking me now, but I’m afraid she’ll just blame me later for ruining her life!’
’But it doesn’t matter anymore!’
The Sutton Family had fallen apart, and even their father couldn’t be relied on. Sharon Sutton was no longer the little sister who trailed behind her, sometimes needing to be carried.
She made her own choices; she would have to be responsible for them from now on.
Anne Sutton couldn’t possibly help her with everything.
After hanging up, Sharon Sutton looked at David Hayes and said, "My sister agreed! She’s going to arrange the job for you."
"Really?" Hearing this, David Hayes said happily, "Great! Thank your sister for me."
He had been quite irritable, but hearing that Anne Sutton had helped, his mood instantly brightened.
Sharon Sutton said, "It’s the holidays now, so we’ll see when work starts again. Since she said she would, she’ll arrange it for you."
She looked at David Hayes, and remembering his attitude toward her the previous night, she still felt a little unhappy.
David Hayes noticed this too. He walked over to Sharon Sutton and said, "Sharon, I was in a bad mood last night. I didn’t mean to say those things to you. It’s just... sometimes my family gets on my case, and it’s frustrating! I really want to provide a good life for you. I’m sorry, please forgive me! I really love you. Look at how well-off your family is now. I’m honestly afraid that I won’t be good enough for you in the future! If you ever leave me, I’ll die! That’s why I’m so desperate to give you a good life through my own efforts."
Sharon Sutton said, "I’ve always believed in your abilities. Even though your income isn’t high right now, I’ve never minded. You don’t have to put so much pressure on yourself. I just didn’t really want to go through my sister... They weren’t very happy about us being together in the first place."
David Hayes said, "It’s all my fault."
"Forget it." Seeing him apologize so profusely, Sharon Sutton felt a little embarrassed herself.
David Hayes said, "Honey, what do you want to eat? I’ll go make you something! You haven’t eaten anything yet, you must be hungry."
It was already late, well past breakfast time. But because the two had been fighting, their moods were soured. Sharon Sutton still hadn’t eaten breakfast, and David Hayes hadn’t asked.
Now that he’d gotten what he wanted, he finally remembered about breakfast.
Sharon Sutton said, "No, it’s fine. I’ll make something myself later if I’m hungry."
David Hayes was now being incredibly attentive. "How can you say that? Even if you don’t eat, the baby in your belly has to. I’ll go make you something."
After saying that, he walked into the kitchen.
He was from the countryside and knew how to cook. He used to cook for himself back in college.
That was why Sharon Sutton found him so impressive.
...
Anne Sutton was having breakfast at home when Mrs. Sutton asked, "How is Sharon?"
Anne Sutton replied, "She’s fine now. I’ve arranged the job for her husband."
Hearing this, Mrs. Sutton glanced at Anne Sutton and said, "Sharon is too young; there are many things she doesn’t understand. I don’t think the Hayes Family is truly good to her!"
Hearing her mother’s words, Anne Sutton said, "It’s good that you see that. It’s not that I don’t want to help her, but the Hayes family’s ambitions are too obvious! Sharon doesn’t understand now, but she will once she suffers for it."
Mrs. Sutton said, "This must be hard on you. You have to worry about everything in the family now."
Anne Sutton said, "It is! That’s why you need to get better quickly, Mom. Without you to back me up, I don’t even know who to talk to when I’m wronged."
Mrs. Sutton looked at Anne Sutton and said, "I’ve thought about it. I want to go to Veridia with you."
Hearing this, Anne Sutton looked at her mother in surprise. "Really?"
Her mother had been hesitating for days. She never expected her to suddenly agree.
Mrs. Sutton nodded. "Mhm."
Anne Sutton said, "That’s wonderful!"
’Once we’re in Veridia, Mom and I can live together, far away from Sean Sutton and that Jiang group. It’ll be so much more peaceful.’
’Besides, I have everything I need there.’
Seeing how happy Anne Sutton was, Mrs. Sutton smiled too.
They hadn’t even finished their meal when Sharon Sutton arrived with David Hayes.
Because Anne Sutton had agreed to arrange a new position for David Hayes, the young couple’s expressions were much brighter.
Anne Sutton looked at them and said, "Have a seat."
Sharon Sutton said, "Sis."
She felt a little embarrassed seeing Anne Sutton. After all, the things she’d said last night had definitely crossed the line.
Nathan Fawcett, who was sitting to the side, looked at the two of them with a rather unpleasant expression.
Before, he had always been polite to Sharon Sutton for Anne Sutton’s sake, since she was her sister.
But now, remembering how immature Sharon Sutton was and how she had spoken to Anne Sutton last night, he couldn’t stand the sight of her.
’If he weren’t afraid that saying too much would just lead to Anne Sutton getting blamed, Nathan Fawcett wouldn’t have held back. He would have given her a piece of his mind.’
"Mom," Sharon Sutton said. "You’re looking much better today."
Mrs. Sutton looked at her and said, "I heard you ran off last night."
Sharon Sutton replied, "I was in a bad mood, so I went for a walk."
Mrs. Sutton glanced at her, then at David Hayes, but didn’t say anything harsh.
At a time like this, it was better to say nothing.
She spoke up, "By the way, I just told your sister that I’m going to Veridia with her for a while."
"Then I’ll go with you," Sharon Sutton said. "Sis has to work, so there’ll be no one to take care of you when you’re there."
"There’s no need," Anne Sutton said. "Mom will be living with me. You’re pregnant right now, so it’s not a good idea for you to travel so far. Thank you for taking care of Mom all this time."
Sharon Sutton said, "Then it’ll be hard on you from now on, Sis."
"It’s no trouble for me. But you..." Anne Sutton said, "Mom and I won’t be here, so you need to take good care of yourself."
At this, she glanced at David Hayes and said, "I gave you what you wanted. But from now on, if you let my sister suffer in any way, I won’t let you off the hook."
"Don’t worry, Sis. I won’t," David Hayes said, his words as sweet as honey.
Watching his incredibly sincere act, Anne Sutton could only hope he was telling the truth.
That afternoon, Charles Prescott came over.
Anne Sutton introduced David Hayes to him.
Charles Prescott glanced at David Hayes and immediately understood that Anne Sutton wanted him to arrange a promotion for the man.
In front of Charles Prescott, David Hayes also listed his own strengths.
After listening, Charles Prescott looked at Anne Sutton and said, "I’ll arrange it for you when work resumes."
Then, he looked at David Hayes. "You can step out for a moment. I have something to discuss with Anne Sutton."
David Hayes stood up. "Take your time."
