Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 315: Wanting Her to Help Him Change His Job
Mrs. Sutton knew what was going on between him and Anne Sutton.
There was no reason to hide it from Mrs. Sutton.
Hearing what Nathan Fawcett said, Mrs. Sutton replied, "Since you put it that way, I can rest easy."
After all, she and Nathan still had a child together.
She had nothing left to worry about.
Nathan Fawcett looked at Mrs. Sutton and said, "Please, don’t worry. I know I’ve done a lot of things wrong in the past, but from now on, I’ll be good to Anne. I won’t let her be wronged or bullied ever again. I’ll treat her right! And I’ll give her a proper wedding."
’Come to think of it, the divorce was actually for the best.’
’At least now they had plenty of time to prepare for a fresh start.’
Mrs. Sutton said, "I hope you mean that."
Nathan Fawcett replied, "Don’t worry."
Mrs. Sutton looked over at Anne Sutton. "What should we have for lunch? Shall I cook?"
"No need," Anne Sutton said. "He and I will handle it today. We’ll call you when lunch is ready."
Mrs. Sutton gave Nathan Fawcett a skeptical look. ’He knows how to cook?’
She still remembered how insufferably arrogant he had been when she first met him at the Fawcett family home.
’This really is...’
’You really can’t judge a book by its cover!’
Mrs. Sutton didn’t dare to ask, so she just nodded.
Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett went back into the kitchen.
She glanced at Nathan Fawcett. Maybe it was because her family was going through such a difficult time, but his presence was surprisingly reassuring.
At least he hadn’t done anything to disappoint her mother at a time like this.
Her mother’s biggest worry had always been her marriage.
Now that Nathan Fawcett was here, the situation was much improved.
At least she no longer had to worry about Anne.
Anne Sutton cooked lunch in the kitchen, with Nathan Fawcett acting as her sous chef.
There was still plenty of food left over from last night.
Still, she made a few new dishes anyway.
...
The family ate their meal together.
Anne Sutton looked at her mother. "Mom, would you like to go out for a walk?"
"Let’s not."
"Let’s go out for a walk!" Anne Sutton insisted. "Staying cooped up at home will only make you feel worse. Getting out for a bit will be good for you."
Hearing her daughter’s words, Mrs. Sutton glanced at her, thought for a moment, then nodded. "Alright, then."
They went out for a stroll together.
They also swung by the Fawcett family home to pick up a change of clothes for Nathan Fawcett and Ian.
...
Sharon Sutton was having a meal at the Hayes family’s house that day.
Mr. and Mrs. Hayes looked at her and said, "By the way, Sharon, we heard your sister is back."
Hearing this, Sharon Sutton replied, "It’s the New Year, so she came back to see my mom."
"Well..." Mrs. Hayes began. "Your sister is the chairwoman of the Fawcett Group now, and our David works there. Do you think you could mention something to her? Maybe get our David a raise, or arrange a better position for him?"
David Hayes’s position at the company hadn’t changed since he joined.
And after Anne Sutton took over the Fawcett Group, she didn’t personally manage its affairs either.
So naturally, David Hayes hadn’t received any special favors...
But with such a golden opportunity right in front of them, they didn’t want to let it pass.
David Hayes was too embarrassed to bring it up with Sharon Sutton himself, but his parents had no such reservations.
Sharon Sutton hesitated upon hearing Mrs. Hayes’s words. "But my sister... I don’t think she handles that kind of thing."
"How could that be?" Mrs. Hayes retorted. "She’s the chairwoman. Giving our David a raise would be as simple as saying a single word. Look at you—you’re pregnant now, you can’t work, and all the financial pressure is on David. How is his meager salary supposed to be enough!"
"..." Sharon Sutton glanced at her husband. Seeing him just sitting there eating quietly, she nodded and said, "I’ll mention it to my sister when I get home."
She had no idea if it would actually do any good.
But in front of the Hayes family, she couldn’t bring herself to refuse.
’She used to think marriage was just about the two of them, that as long as she loved him, everything would be fine.’
’But now that they were truly together, she was discovering that nothing was as simple as she had thought.’
That afternoon, Sharon Sutton and David Hayes went home.
Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett had already returned with Mrs. Sutton.
Nathan Fawcett had called the Fawcett family’s housekeeper over to cook for them.
He didn’t want to see Anne Sutton cook herself.
Even with his help, it was still a lot of trouble.
Anne Sutton was sitting on the sofa when Sharon Sutton and David Hayes walked in. "You’re back!" she said.
Sharon Sutton nodded. "You guys didn’t go out today?"
"We went for a walk in the park." Anne Sutton glanced at her sister, then at David Hayes, who was following behind. He offered a quick greeting and then said nothing more.
...
Anne Sutton stood up. "I’m going to go check on the kitchen."
Sharon Sutton stood up as well. "I’ll help you."
When Sharon followed her into the kitchen, Anne asked, "What’s up?"
Sharon Sutton smiled. "What do you mean?"
"You look like you have something to say," Anne Sutton said. "Are you hesitant to bring it up?"
Since Anne Sutton had pressed the issue, Sharon Sutton decided to speak up. "Well, sis, since David is working at the Fawcett Group now, I was wondering... if you could help him get a different position."
Hearing this, Anne Sutton asked, "A different position? Why?"
Sharon Sutton explained, "His current job has long hours, and he gets off late. Sometimes he doesn’t have time to come home and be with me. And... the pay is low. If he could get a different job, he’d have more time to spend with me, and the pay would be better."
A corner of Anne Sutton’s mouth twitched. "A high-paying job with cushy hours? Where are you going to find something that easy? Besides, I never interfere in the affairs of the Fawcett Group."
If this were about the hospital, she would at least know a thing or two.
But she knew nothing about the Fawcett Group, and Anne Sutton had no desire to waste her energy on it.
She especially didn’t want to go in there, completely clueless, and start bossing people around.
Sharon Sutton insisted, "David’s actually very well-educated. The only reason he isn’t in a more important role is that he’s just missing an opportunity."
Anne Sutton replied, "If he’s capable, his superiors will naturally notice. He doesn’t need you to speak up for him! The Fawcett Group is already very fair."
People fight tooth and nail to get a job there precisely because it offers so many opportunities for young people.
As long as you’re capable and willing to work hard, you’ll almost certainly get ahead.
Sharon Sutton frowned at Anne Sutton’s words.
Anne Sutton glanced at her. "What, did your husband put you up to this?"
’Just as I thought...’
’It hasn’t been that long, and he’s already showing his true colors!’
Sharon Sutton denied it. "No! It wasn’t him! He would never ask me for something like that."
"Then his family did?" After all, Sharon had just come back from the Hayes’s house.
This time, Sharon Sutton didn’t deny it.
Anne Sutton said, "Even if he didn’t say it himself, it’s what he wants if his family is saying it. How else would they know so much about our situation here if he hadn’t told them? You need to be more careful! Don’t just do whatever people tell you to."
Sharon Sutton retorted, "Don’t think of him like that! You’re just prejudiced against him."
