Sometimes, the fear of divorce is really about the fear of how others will look at you.

Compared to Mrs. Shields, she felt like she was nothing.

Her husband had cheated, and she hadn’t taken good care of the home.

Anne Sutton stood to the side, and when she heard Mrs. Shields’ question, she grew worried for her mother. But since they were talking, it wasn’t her place to interrupt, so she could only hold back.

Hearing Mrs. Shields’ words, Mrs. Sutton said, "Yes, we’re divorced. It should have happened a long time ago."

She hadn’t been this resolute even when she found out Sean Sutton had an illegitimate child. But now...

She hadn’t initiated the divorce, but he was the one who refused to continue, insisting on it no matter what and turning her into a laughingstock.

Mrs. Shields offered some comfort. "A divorce is a divorce. You can find someone better in the future. No need to be so pessimistic."

"I won’t," Mrs. Sutton said. "I’m not going to look for anyone else."

"You don’t have to think that way," Mrs. Shields said. "Look... you have two daughters! And they’ve done quite well for themselves."

She glanced at Anne Sutton, knowing that Anne now held the reins of the Fawcett Group.

The Fawcett Group was, by any measure, significantly more powerful than the Shields Family.

When she’d come looking for Anne Sutton before, she had dared to be offensive and speak rudely to her face. But now, she wouldn’t dream of it!

It just went to show that people always kiss up and kick down.

Mrs. Sutton glanced at Anne Sutton and smiled.

Justin Shields’s gaze fell on Anne Sutton as he asked, "Have you eaten yet?"

"Not yet."

His question reminded Anne Sutton that there was someone else in the kitchen.

She hurried back to the kitchen and saw Nathan Fawcett standing off to the side, trimming vegetables.

The two of them had been trimming them together just a moment ago. When she left, he had kept working by himself and was now nearly finished.

Anne Sutton said, "You finished all of it?"

Nathan Fawcett glanced at her. Justin Shields was following behind her. Justin walked in, saw Nathan, and asked, "When did you get here?"

"Last night."

"You stayed here?"

Nathan Fawcett glanced at him, a hint of pride in his voice. "Mhm."

Justin Shields said, "Since when did you learn to set foot in a kitchen?"

He was astonished!

’Is this the same Nathan Fawcett I used to know?’

’He’s actually in a kitchen!’

After all, the old Nathan Fawcett would never have wasted time on something like cooking.

He didn’t even enjoy eating much himself!

Nathan Fawcett said to Justin Shields, "Is this sort of thing difficult? I can do it, too."

Anne Sutton stood to the side, watching his proud expression. ’He’s like this because Justin offered to cook for me before. He didn’t know how, so he went and learned.’

’And now he finally has a chance to show off in front of Justin!’

Justin Shields looked at Nathan Fawcett. "Right, you’re truly amazing. Is there anything you can’t do?"

Still, Justin had never expected that Nathan Fawcett would be willing to do these things for Anne Sutton.

After all, when he had first returned to Westhaven, he wouldn’t even admit he was interested in Anne.

But now, it was like he wished he could have "Property of Anne Sutton" tattooed on his face.

Seeing Nathan like this, Justin felt a sense of helplessness. He could also sense that, compared to this version of Nathan, he didn’t have any competitive edge.

’Giving up early was the smart choice.’

Mrs. Shields sat on the sofa, looking at Anne Sutton. Seeing that Ian was there as well, she said to Mrs. Sutton, "Is your Anne really getting together with Ethan Linden?"

Mrs. Sutton glanced at the two of them and said, "Mhm."

Mrs. Shields was naturally a little unhappy.

After all...

Ethan Linden and Stella Shields used to be so close.

Now, in front of Mrs. Sutton, she couldn’t stop herself from making a few catty remarks.

"Ethan Linden already has a child! And that child is our Stella’s! Your Anne sure has a lot of nerve! She’ll do anything to get what she wants!"

Hearing this, Mrs. Sutton looked at Mrs. Shields. "Are you saying Ian is Stella’s child?"

Before, Mrs. Sutton would have believed her.

But last night, Anne Sutton had told her everything!

’Mrs. Shields standing here and saying all this is clearly just spouting bullshit!’

"Of course she is!" Mrs. Shields said. "She carried him for ten months and gave birth to him herself. If you have Anne’s best interests at heart, you’ll advise her to stay far away from Ethan Linden. You’re all so rich now, anyway! There’s no need to be so greedy."

"That’s bullshit!" Mrs. Sutton snapped. "Marie Dunn, I always thought we were good friends, so I believed everything you said. I even believed you when you said our Anne stole your daughter’s boyfriend! But search your conscience and tell me, was Ethan Linden ever really your daughter’s boyfriend? And to say that child was born after your daughter carried him for ten months... you’re a shameless liar."

She used to be very concerned about keeping up appearances, so there were some things she’d kept bottled up, too weary to say them.

But she’d been in a terrible mood lately to begin with.

Now that she was divorced, she certainly didn’t have as much to worry about!

So, some things, she just said them outright.

Mrs. Shields was taken aback by Mrs. Sutton’s outburst. "What do you mean?" she said, incredulous. "I’m trying to have a civil conversation with you, so why did you suddenly start cursing?"

"So what if I cursed you?" Mrs. Sutton retorted. "You just think our family is an easy target, don’t you? If your daughter is so capable, then let her go talk to Ethan Linden herself. Or you can go talk to him. There’s no need to come here and say all this to us."

"This is how you raised your daughter," Mrs. Shields sneered.

"At least I didn’t raise her to be like your daughter—clinging to a man who doesn’t like her and spreading rumors everywhere. Honestly, if your daughter is really Ian’s mother, why doesn’t she dare to tell Ethan Linden directly instead of coming here and beating around the bush to attack our Anne?"

Anne Sutton and Justin Shields, who had been in the kitchen, heard the two of them start to argue.

Mrs. Sutton threw a sofa cushion at Mrs. Shields’s feet. "Get out! You’re not welcome here! Get the hell out!"

Anne Sutton had never seen her mother so furious and was startled.

Justin Shields walked over to his mother. "Mom."

Mrs. Shields pointed at Mrs. Sutton and said, "You’ll get what’s coming to you! A daughter like yours who steals other people’s men will get her comeuppance sooner or later."

Nathan Fawcett walked out from the kitchen, saw Mrs. Shields, and said, "You’ve misunderstood. I’m not involved with any woman other than Anne Sutton."

Seeing Nathan Fawcett standing there, siding with Anne Sutton’s family, Mrs. Shields pointed at him, looked like she wanted to say something, but held back. She left in a huff.

Justin Shields didn’t know how his mother and Mrs. Sutton had started fighting, but seeing this, he followed her out the door.

Anne Sutton had been worried that her mother was being bullied by Mrs. Shields.

After all, her mother had always believed whatever Mrs. Shields said.

Now, seeing her lose her temper and drive Mrs. Shields away, Anne was quite surprised.

She walked over to her mother and asked, "Mom, what happened?"

"It’s nothing," Mrs. Sutton said. "She claimed Ian was her daughter’s child, that Stella Shields carried him for ten months, and she told me to convince you to break up with Ethan Linden. I got so angry listening to her that I couldn’t hold back."

At this, she glanced at Nathan Fawcett and asked, "You really don’t have anything going on with Stella Shields, do you?"

Nathan Fawcett knew what she was worried about and nodded. "Don’t worry, Auntie. I have no improper relationship with her whatsoever."
