Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 295: All Women Like These Things
Just then, there was a knock at the door. Anne Sutton quickly pushed him away. "Okay, you can go now."
Nathan Fawcett gazed at her gently, finally letting go of her hand with reluctance before walking out the door.
Her assistant came in, looked at Anne Sutton, and asked, "Was that Ethan Linden who just left?"
Anne Sutton said, "No, you’ve mistaken him for someone else."
The assistant said, "How could I be? I’ve seen Dr. Linden’s son before. You’re trying to fool me!"
Hearing this, Anne Sutton laughed. "Then why did you even ask?"
"I just can’t quite believe it!" She looked at Anne Sutton and asked, "Are you two dating?"
Anne Sutton touched the tip of her nose, unsure how to explain her relationship with Nathan Fawcett. The assistant pressed, "Come on, tell me! How did you manage to catch him? Teach me your ways."
"..." Anne Sutton was a little surprised to hear her say she was the one who pursued Nathan Fawcett.
’Perhaps in others’ eyes, given her and Ethan Linden’s circumstances, it would indeed make sense for her to be the one pursuing him.’
This kind of thing would take forever to explain, so Anne Sutton couldn’t be bothered. "It’s a secret."
Nathan Fawcett went upstairs to see his mother.
Anna Linden was sitting in a chair, her hand on her forehead, trying to compose herself.
She had been very busy the last two days.
Nathan Fawcett pushed the door open and came in. "Mom."
She looked up at him. "Sit down."
Nathan Fawcett sat down. "Are you not feeling well? Are you too tired? Do you want to rest for a bit?"
Anna Linden said, "It’s nothing. I just came to ask how you’re handling the situation with Ryan Linden."
Nathan Fawcett said, "I fired him."
Anna Linden glanced at him. "Your uncle told me. He said you fired Ryan Linden and are also making him pay back the company’s eighty million. He said they’re already preparing to sell their house."
Nathan Fawcett nodded. "If he doesn’t sell the house now, he won’t be able to pay it back anyway."
Anna Linden looked at him. "If you’re too harsh, they’ll become suspicious of your identity."
"I know what I’m doing."
Nathan Fawcett was incredibly firm.
Anna Linden had wanted to try and persuade him, but seeing the unwavering resolve in his eyes, she found herself at a loss for words.
She was silent for a moment before saying, "Fine. As long as you have it under control. I just called you over to ask."
Nathan Fawcett looked at his mother and said, "You must also despise his behavior—beating his own wife. I know he saved Ethan Linden, and I didn’t intend to make things difficult for him. But if I’m not hard on him now, he’ll never change his ways! It’s precisely because we’re all part of the Linden Family that I hope he can turn over a new leaf and become a good person."
Anna Linden said to Nathan Fawcett, "I understand. Do what you think is best."
Seeing his mother’s rare show of support, Nathan Fawcett smiled. "Thank you, Mother."
Anna Linden sat in her seat, watching Nathan Fawcett. ’Sometimes he’s so well-behaved you can’t find a single fault with him, but at other times, he can be unbelievably stubborn.’
In the afternoon, when Anne Sutton came out of the hospital, Nathan Fawcett was already waiting for her in his car.
He hadn’t called for a driver today; he had driven himself.
Anne Sutton got into the car and glanced at the man. "You didn’t work this afternoon?"
"I just had one meeting this afternoon," Nathan Fawcett said. "It was on the way, so I came over. Are you tired?"
Anne Sutton replied, "I’m okay."
Nathan Fawcett looked at her, the corners of his lips lifting. "If you’re tired, rest for a bit."
Anne Sutton looked at him. "Why are you driving yourself today?"
Nathan Fawcett said, "I wanted to come see you! And I didn’t want anyone to disturb us, so I drove myself."
He looked at her, a smile playing on his lips. "What, are you surprised?"
Anne Sutton shook her head. "No. Who are we having dinner with today? It’s not just the two of us, is it?"
"Ian is coming too," Nathan Fawcett said. "I’ve already had someone take him there."
Anne Sutton said, "Oh, that’s great!"
Nathan Fawcett saw her look of relief and raised an eyebrow. "What, you’re not happy to be alone with me?"
"What’s there to be happy about being with you?" Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "As Ian’s father, you should feel honored."
Nathan Fawcett’s lip twitched.
Anne Sutton asked, "What did your mother want to see you about today?"
Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett said, "Nothing much. She just asked me about Ryan Linden."
"Ryan Linden hasn’t shown up these last two days. I don’t know where he went," Anne Sutton said. "I went to see Lana Langley at noon."
"How is she?" Nathan Fawcett asked.
Anne Sutton said, "The moment she saw me, she looked at me like I was the enemy! She thinks I’m trying to drive a wedge between her and Ryan Linden. I think deep down she knows exactly what kind of person her husband is, but she’s determined to brainwash herself."
Nathan Fawcett said, "Since she has chosen this path, let her be. It’s not like I’m particularly fond of her anyway."
Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and asked, "Then in your family, who do you actually like? Besides your mother and Ian."
Nathan Fawcett glanced at her. "You."
"Anyone else?"
"...You sound like you’re asking a child." He was a bit speechless at the question.
Anne Sutton looked at the man, a smile playing on her lips.
Chatting as they went, the two soon arrived at the place Nathan Fawcett had booked.
The weather had been cold lately, and it was snowing here. It was a hot spring hotel.
Anne Sutton said to Nathan Fawcett, "It’s actually snowing here! How did I not know?"
"Veridia has many interesting places you don’t know about. What do you think?" The hotel was on a mountain, at a higher elevation, and it was already snowing.
Nathan Fawcett had the hotel staff park the car and stood beside her.
Anne Sutton stood to the side, gazing at the scenery down the mountain. "It’s beautiful, but a little cold."
Nathan Fawcett smiled. "Come on. Let’s go inside."
He led Anne Sutton to the dining area.
As soon as they entered, they saw Ian rushing over. "Mommy!"
He ran as fast as his little legs could carry him.
Anne Sutton hugged him. "Ian."
Ian leaned in, gave Anne Sutton a kiss on the cheek, and said in a sweet, childish voice, "Mommy, I missed you."
Anne Sutton said, "We see each other every day. You still miss me?"
She had just left for work that morning.
Ian nodded. "Uh-huh. I’m not heartless like Daddy."
"Who are you talking about?" Nathan Fawcett glanced at his own silly son who was undermining him and pinched his little cheek.
Dinner was ready, and Nathan Fawcett led Anne Sutton over.
The family of three sat down.
The ambiance here was quite nice.
It was decorated so romantically.
There were even candles lit in the center.
Anne Sutton sat down, looked at Nathan Fawcett, and asked, "Since when did you start with these fancy tricks?"
Nathan Fawcett asked, "You don’t like it?"
Anne Sutton raised an eyebrow. "Whose idea was this?"
This didn’t seem like something Nathan would come up with on his own.
He’d never been one to put this much effort into wooing a woman.
Even when he was good to you, he couldn’t come up with so many elaborate details.
Seeing her suspicion, Nathan Fawcett could only confess, "Caleb Summers said all women like this stuff. I wanted to give it a try! But, it seems like you’re not that fond of it."
