Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 296: If One Day He Knew the Truth
Anne Sutton chuckled at his words.
Nathan Fawcett said, "It’s alright. I can take you somewhere fun next time. For now, let’s go soak in the hot springs. The atmosphere here is great, and it’s not a place just anyone can get into."
Even though it was a hot spring resort, it catered exclusively to the rich and powerful.
Ordinary people weren’t part of their clientele at all.
Hearing this, Anne Sutton nodded. "Alright."
After the family of three finished their meal, she went to her room to drop off her things before heading to the hot springs.
There were attendants at the hotel. After Anne Sutton changed, she wrapped a robe around herself and stepped out.
Ian was by her side, mother and son holding hands.
Nathan Fawcett wasn’t with them at the moment. He had just stepped away to make a phone call, saying he would wait for them at the hot spring pools.
Anne Sutton was leading Ian by the hand when they passed a man and a woman in the hallway. The woman was being very forward, while the man stood listlessly to the side.
Just as the woman was about to make a move, she heard Ian speak and paused.
The woman froze for a second when she saw Anne Sutton and Ian.
When the woman got a clear look at her face, she froze again...
’Isn’t that Mia Shaw?’
And the man standing next to her was none other than Charles Prescott.
’Although I knew they’d always been close, seeing them fooling around together here gave me a completely different feeling.’
Charles Prescott had been in a bad mood for the past couple of days, so he had come out to relax. Mia Shaw had recommended this place to him.
However, Charles Prescott hadn’t expected to run into Anne Sutton here.
Even though he and Anne Sutton were no longer involved, he still felt a pang of guilt upon seeing her. "Anne."
Anne Sutton looked at the pair. She and Charles Prescott had nothing to do with each other now. To be honest, seeing him with someone else didn’t even make her that angry.
Anne Sutton said, "Sorry to interrupt. Please, continue."
She picked up Ian and started to walk away.
Ian asked, "Mommy, what game are they playing?"
Anne Sutton coughed, unsure how to explain such things to a child.
Charles Prescott, however, followed after them. "Anne, it’s not what you think."
Seeing him trailing her, Anne Sutton said, "Why are you following me? I already told you I was just passing by. I didn’t expect to run into you, and I certainly didn’t expect to see you two being so... uninhibited. Why are you chasing me down to explain yourself now? It’s ridiculous!"
Charles Prescott looked at her calm expression and said resentfully, "That’s right! Now that you have Ethan Linden, of course you don’t care! It must feel great to have latched onto someone so powerful, doesn’t it?"
The thought of Anne Sutton spending her days with Ethan Linden made Charles Prescott fume.
Anne Sutton looked at his passive-aggressive demeanor and said, "Since you know I’m with Ethan Linden, stop following me. You’re being incredibly annoying!"
Charles Prescott asked, "Are you planning to stay with Ethan Linden forever?"
"Of course."
"What, is he going to marry you?" Charles Prescott was skeptical. "Since when were you content with just being someone’s mistress?"
’Back when I asked her to be with me, she refused!’
’But now, for Ethan Linden, she’s willing to go without any official status?’
"Mistress?" Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott. "In this world, you’re probably the only one who disrespects women so much that you wouldn’t even give them a proper title! Don’t you dare compare Ethan Linden to yourself."
"To hear you talk, Ethan Linden is going to marry you?" Charles Prescott was filled with doubt.
Anne Sutton replied, "I don’t have to explain anything to you."
’Even if I told him, Charles Prescott wouldn’t believe me.’
Anne Sutton couldn’t be bothered to waste her breath.
Charles Prescott continued, "What are you doing staying with the Linden Family? That place isn’t for you! There’s no way Ethan Linden will marry you. You’re not young anymore, do you still think you’re an eighteen-year-old girl? You can’t possibly plan to stay unmarried forever, can you? He has a son. And you? What do you have?"
’Looking at Charles Prescott’s smug face, Anne Sutton was tempted to tell him that she had a son, too.’
’But seeing him like this, she didn’t want to reveal her secret just yet.’
’After all, where’s the fun if the secret gets out too soon?’
Just then, Nathan Fawcett walked over. Seeing him, Ian called out, "Daddy."
Charles Prescott heard Ian’s voice and looked toward the newcomer.
Nathan Fawcett was currently disguised as Ethan Linden, so he looked completely different from the last time he’d appeared before Charles Prescott.
The impression Nathan Fawcett had left before was so negative that no one would ever associate this gentle, refined appearance with him.
Nathan Fawcett stood beside Anne Sutton, his gaze falling on Charles Prescott.
He remained silent upon seeing Charles Prescott, not in any hurry to speak.
’He seemed to be weighing something in his mind.’
Charles Prescott, not knowing that the man before him was Nathan Fawcett, didn’t pay him much mind.
He simply treated him as Ethan Linden. "Second Uncle, long time no see."
Seeing that Charles called him "Second Uncle" and hadn’t recognized his true identity, Nathan Fawcett smiled. Adopting Ethan Linden’s tone, he said, "It has been a long time. What are you doing here?"
Charles Prescott said, "Since you’re asking, Second Uncle, I’ll be blunt. I’m here to take Anne back."
Hearing him say he was taking her back, Anne Sutton shot him a look. ’As if we have anything to do with each other,’ she thought. ’What gives him the right to say that?’
’Who does he think he is!’
Nathan Fawcett found this laughable as well. "Take her back? She’s with me now. What right do you have to take her anywhere?"
Charles Prescott looked at Nathan Fawcett. Hearing this man, Ethan Linden, claim Anne Sutton was his woman, Charles said, "She’s the chairman of my company. Is there a problem with me taking her back to handle business matters?"
Nathan Fawcett retorted, "If company matters need her to handle them, then what’s the point of you? If you can’t do your job, maybe you should just vacate your position!"
Charles Prescott was naturally unwilling to give up his position just because Ethan Linden said so.
Charles Prescott said, "Company matters were decided by my uncle, Nathan Fawcett. If I recall correctly, you’re supposed to call him ’Big Brother.’ You’re not qualified to make this decision, are you?"
Nathan Fawcett raised an eyebrow at that. "Are you trying to use his name to throw your weight around?"
Charles Prescott said, "I’m just reminding you that my uncle is still around! He’s not dead yet. If you want to marry Anne Sutton, you’ll have to ask for his permission first."
"..." Anne Sutton stood to the side, watching Charles Prescott’s utterly confident display.
’If Nathan Fawcett and Ethan Linden were actually two different people, he might have really been intimidated by that.’
’What a pity...’
’Charles Prescott was just too naive!’
Nathan Fawcett also found Charles Prescott’s words quite amusing.
He glanced at Anne Sutton, then said to Charles Prescott, "It doesn’t matter whether he agrees or not. The important thing is whether Anne wants to be with me. If you think that’s unfair, you can go and talk to Nathan Fawcett yourself. See if he even gives you the time of day."
With that, Nathan Fawcett took Ian from Anne Sutton’s arms, took her hand, and said, "Let’s go."
Charles Prescott stood rooted to the spot, gritting his teeth in anger as he realized Ethan Linden had completely disregarded him.
Once they reached the hot spring pool, far away from Charles Prescott, Anne Sutton plopped into the water and started laughing. "I can’t even imagine how he’ll feel the day he finds out the truth."
