Love Strategy: CEO He is Really Scheming!
Chapter 1495: Regina’s Unwavering Longing Echoes Back (2)
Regina nodded vigorously, then suddenly stood up and threw her arms around Jose Floyd’s neck, planting a kiss on his cheek. "Uncle, don’t forget, okay?"
Jose Floyd reached out and touched Regina’s head, a softness in his eyes that even he didn’t notice, and nodded in agreement.
Jose Floyd handed Regina over to that group of warm-hearted bystanders, gave a few instructions, then turned and left.
He had only walked a short distance when someone got out of the police car parked by the roadside. Chestnut curls were pinned up behind her head, her fair face clean and fresh. A pure white chiffon blouse and a tightly cinched A-line skirt made her look youthful yet elegant.
She walked up to Regina and gave the crowd a faint smile, polite and gentle, then bent down and picked Regina up.
"Miss Nicole, I’ll drive you and your daughter home. Thank you for stepping in to help today," the officer by the police car said with a smile to the woman holding Regina.
The woman nodded, holding Regina as she headed toward the police car. "Okay, thank you, Officer Walters."
"You’re welcome. Really, we should be the ones thanking Miss Nicole for helping out."
"You’re too kind." Her smile was light, just like her surname and her person, carrying a faint, fresh air about it.
Just as he turned away and walked not far, Jose Floyd’s whole body trembled when that light, gentle voice floated over from the noisy crowd behind him. His gaze flashed bright, disbelief written all over his face.
This voice, how could it—
Impossible, no way, it can’t be her!
But this voice clearly is! He’d been with her for five years; his familiarity with her, let alone her original voice—even if she were using a voice changer, there is no way he would mistake it!
Nicole—
This is clearly Nicole’s voice!!
Jose Floyd snapped out of it in shock, spinning around to search. He shoved aside the crowd in front of him, looking carefully, his steps frantic, his eyes filled with anxious confusion.
And just then, the police car’s door by the roadside slammed shut and the car sped away.
"Nicole! Nicole!—I know it’s you! Nicole! Answer me!" Jose Floyd searched through the night-market crowd like a madman, his hoarse voice low and rough. The fear of missing her surging up from his heart was written all over his face, and his steps were utterly chaotic.
In the back seat of the departing police car, the woman holding Regina vaguely heard someone calling out. Her body gave a little shudder, and her gaze instinctively shifted toward the window.
The crowd outside was packed tight, vehicles driving off into the distance. She saw nothing.
Noticing something off, Officer Walters, who was driving in front, turned slightly and asked, "Miss Nicole, what’s wrong?"
The woman addressed as Miss Nicole gave a faint smile, her voice a little low. "It’s nothing, probably just auditory hallucinations....." As she said this, a calm, composed smile sat on her face, but inside her heart was in complete turmoil. To steady herself, she hugged her daughter Regina closer and said with a soft laugh, "Regina, mommy went to help the police uncle catch the bad guys. Were you scared at all?"
Regina nodded. When she thought of the moment she’d been thrown out, her small body trembled, and she clung to her mother. "Scared, really scared..... the good uncle..... saved me."
"What good uncle?" Miss Nicole asked in surprise, holding Regina.
"He bought me..... ice cream," Regina answered off-topic, a smile curling at her lips.
Officer Walters glanced back at the mother and daughter and smiled. "Miss Nicole, where’s Regina’s dad? Still hasn’t come back to pick you two up? If you ask me, there’s no shortage of temptations out there these days. Miss Nicole—I’m not trying to stir up trouble between you and your husband, but him ignoring you and your daughter like this, that’s classic scumbag behavior! Miss Nicole, are you still foolishly waiting for him?"
