Chapter 1496: Regina’s Perseverance Echoes

"What if he already has a family? Are you going to keep waiting? Regina is already two years old. From the time you were pregnant until now, I’ve never seen him come back."

Officer Walters is well-acquainted with Miss Nicole because whenever Miss Nicole encounters difficulties with patrolling police officers or when the police are catching criminals, Miss Nicole always lends a helping hand. Miss Nicole held Regina, with a smile on her face though her eyes had a certain depth.

"Miss Nicole, in my opinion, you’re so young and beautiful, there’s no need to wait. Turning back early would be the correct choice," Officer Walters said as he drove. After a pause, he chuckled, "Actually, our Captain Gordon is quite good. To put it plainly, he likes you. Why not try dating him, Miss Nicole?"

Miss Nicole shook her head with a chuckle, "I am waiting for him to come back, because I believe he will come to get Regina and me. It’s just a matter of time. In this life, I only love my beloved."

"Alright then, Miss Nicole, you’re clearly telling me to go inform our captain that he’s had his heart broken? Well, Miss Nicole, you’re so wonderful. I hope fate favors you and your beloved comes to pick you and your daughter up soon," Officer Walters sighed.

Miss Nicole smiled lightly and said nothing more.

Officer Walters drove the mother and daughter to a small courtyard in the ancient town and bid them farewell.

Regina looked at her mother and recalled the strange yet familiar words Uncle Walters mentioned earlier about her father. Her small face showed some grievance as she softly spoke, "I don’t have a dad... Mom, do I not have a dad?"

"How could that be?" Miss Nicole crouched down beside Regina, gently touching her hair in consolation, "Regina, you have a dad. He just hasn’t come to find us yet. We wait, believe that Dad will definitely come, okay?"

"Can we find Dad?" Regina pouted, feeling downcast.

Miss Nicole’s eyes were somewhat vacant, she stayed silent for a long while before softly saying, "With loss comes gain, this is my choice. Because I believe, if we never forget, there will be an echo. The things I’ve lost will be exchanged for something else, fate will be fair to me. We won’t go looking for Dad because I have an agreement with Uncle. If Dad can’t find us, then I can only stay here; I can’t leave. This is Uncle’s protection for me, a brother’s protection for his sister. Cherishing is not just words, as your Uncle says, time is the measure of cherishing."

Regina couldn’t understand such profound words, her face a bit aggrieved as she walked towards the small courtyard at home.

Miss Nicole stood at the doorway, watching Regina’s back, murmuring softly, "Regina... if we never forget, there will be an echo... hopefully, this gamble with my brother will be a win..."

The next morning, Jose Floyd stood by the hotel window, stretching his injured wrist, looking at the view outside, feeling much more at ease.

With mountains and rivers interweaving, Phoenix Ancient Town is filled with river streams throughout this small town. Stepping out from the back of the hotel, there was a river about ten meters wide. Many small boats were in the river, with numerous tourists taking these oar boats to tour the town.

Today’s weather was very gloomy, it looked like there would soon be heavy rain. After having breakfast at the hotel, Jose Floyd began to wander around the ancient town.
