Chapter 28: Important Information

[WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF JAPAN, MR. GRAVES]

The voice of a machine repeated in his head yet again.

[Quest: Find the seven fragments of the Seven Heavenly Virtues, and deliver it to seven women with great potential.]

[Rewards: One S-rank skill.]

John glanced at the words hovering in his mind and sneered.

"So stingy for a goddess..."

But a hint of a smile formed on his face as he appreciated what the goddess had done for him.

She had revived him even if it was not alderia she sent him, he was still grateful for her.

’She said something at the end that I must promise her that I will find her, She will be in alderia waiting for me.

That sounds too much of a proposal to me, was she confessing.’

A few moments later, a female wearing a strange white coat entered the room. At their trail came a man and a woman, both with red, apparently tear-stained eyes.

John gave them the most bewildered look.

’Who are these people? This is weird.’

The woman dressed in the white coat came up to his bed, her long black hair tied up in a ponytail, pretty face, and dark yet peaceful eyes.

Without saying much of anything, the woman placed a hand on his forehead to take his temperature. John had a ton of questions, but he kept his tongue tucked for the meantime.

After a while, the woman in the white coat turned to the man and woman and said,"He is fine. He just needs a bit of rest, and he’ll be good to go."

The man who stood near his bed looked to be in his late forties, with short black hair and a somewhat tired yet happy expression. The woman had long dark hair and kind, worried eyes. Both of them wore the quiet aura of people who had just gone through a monumental shock.

The man bowed slightly to the woman in the coat and thanked her.

"Thank you, Nurse Sakura."

The woman,however, seemed to be more interested in John himself. She leaned forward and took hold of his hand gently with tears in her eyes.

’Why is this woman holding my hand and crying?’

The woman in the white coat, whom the man had referred to as Nurse Sakura, gave them a polite nod before turning around and leaving the room so that the man and woman could talk to John.

John glanced at the woman’s back as she left and grumbled to himself.

’I don’t understand? What did the goddess do to me?’

The woman holding care of his hand finally spoke, her voice came and what she said shocked John.

"Son... I hope you can forgive us for what we have made happen but for now get some rest, and we’ll talk later, okay?"

The man only uttered a few simple words.

"Get some rest, champ."

John watched as they turned around and walked to the door, the woman calling him ’son’. His mind reeled in confusion.

’Did the goddess really grant me parents in this lifetime? I never had any growing up. I was under the care of the big shots my whole life, doing their dirty work for them.’

As if in answer to his silent questions, the mechanical voice appeared once more in his head.

[You have been reincarnated into the body of a young man who had died due to an accident. The original owner of this body had been brought to this hospital, where he eventually passed away. The goddess transferred your soul into his body.]

’Oh... I see. So this place is called a hospital. Give me some more information.’

Almost immediately, the voice spoke again.

[I may assist you with your questions, but sometimes I might be out of commission two times every twenty-four hours, which constitutes a day in this world, reason being I can run out of energy so I have to get mana from your body.]

John mulled over the information in his head.

’So twenty-four hours make up a day here while one hundred hours make up one day in Alderia. I should remember that.’

Without wasting a second, he formed a question in his head.

’Where can I find the first fragment of the Virtues?’

[You can find the Virtue of Humility fragment at the University of Tokyo. It is an Academy located in Tokyo, Japan. You must enroll in it in order to acquire the fragment.]

’Alright. I’ll ask those people, my parents in this lifetime, about that later. For now, let me know my rank and status. For some reason I cannot access my status.

[Commencing protocol. User is currently Rank F. Class: Necromancer. Only skill available is Awaken. Your power has been greatly reduced according to the rules set by the goddess. Furthermore, refrain from using the name John in this world. Your name here is Ren Sato.]

’Thanks for the information. What should I call you whenever I need help?’

[I do not have a name. I do not require one. My existence is to provide you, Mr. Ren Sato, with information regarding this world, and to guide you on your quest to find the fragments.]

John gave a faint smile.

’From now on, I’ll call you Claire.’

[Understood. From this moment forth, I will answer to the name Claire whenever you call upon me.]

Feeling much better, Ren Sato -formerly known as John Graves- closed his eyes and slowly fell asleep, his mind drifting off to the quest ahead of him... and finding a way back to Alderia, back to the women waiting for him.
