Chapter 29 - Tokyo University (100 collections bonus)

On the hospital bed, a young man with black hair stirred awake. He looked to be in his early twenties. This was Ren Sato, previously known as John Graves.

He had been executed by Glenn Roberts, one of the seven sword masters back in Frostveil only to wake up in a place fill with pure white void, where he met the Goddess of Alderia. She provided a quest for him to find the seven fragments of the Heavenly Virtues and that was how he had been reincarnated as Ren Sato.

Ren looked around. The room he was in was empty. He slowly sat up on the hospital bed and started talking, in his mind.

’Claire, are you there’.

A clear mechanical female voice responded in his mind.

[Yes, I am here, Mr. Ren Sato. How can I help you?]

’How long did I sleep’

[You slept for twenty-four hours and some seconds. Meaning you had been asleep for one full day. So it is currently nighttime in Alderia on the hundredth hour.]

’I didn’t ask for that much detail... but thank you, Claire.’

A few seconds passed before the door opened. A woman wearing a white coat entered and closed the door behind her.

’I forgot her name... was it Nurse Sakura, Claire’.

No response. Claire must have been saving her energy. Ren attempted to remember for a moment before giving up.

The nurse turned towards Ren with a gentle, professional smile.

"Your parents will be here soon. Please wait a little longer."

She turned to walk away. As she did so, Ren’s eyes unintentionally fell to her ass unconsciously . Her hips swayed under the tight white coat, which was pretty distracting. For a moment, Ren’s mind drifted down the gutter.

Before his mind could wander any further, Claire’s voice suddenly rang clearly in his mind, startling Ren out his daze.

[Are you forgetting that you have three bombshells waiting for you in Alderia?]

Ren sighed mentally.

’Of course I remember. They’re probably wondering where I am at the moment... or maybe they think that I won’t come back to them because I pushed them away. At that time I did not want any of them to get rash and tried to save me, it would have been pointless’.

Claire did not respond. As an artificial intelligence, she could not comprehend the feelings that humans were feeling.

’But I know that they’re safe. I can feel it.’

---

Three hours later, the door drifted open again. This time, it was his parents.

His mother was a gentle looking woman who looked to be in her forties. She had long dark hair and soft, worried eyes. The moment she saw that Ren could sit up on his own, she came rushing up to him and she pulled him into a tight hug.

To them, his survival was a miracle. Ren, however, knew the truth. Once he eventually leaves this body, he knew they would go back to the reality that they had lost their son.

His father stood a few feet away. He was a quiet man with short black hair and a calm face. He did not come closer, but a small, real smile was on his lips. Ren could tell this was a man of few words.

For the first time since arriving in this world, Ren spoke to them.

"Mom, Dad... How can I apply to the University of Tokyo?"

His mother turned to look at his father and his father looked back with a confused expression as if silently communicating some unpleasant news.

’Claire, why are they so surprised that I want to go to school? Did the old Ren hate school that much?’

[Yes. He hated school for a reason though, The original Ren Sato disliked school. He was bullied throughout his years at school and eventually he gave up then He found a job at the age of fourteen.]

’And then he died at twenty, huh? Ren finished the thought and turned to his parents waiting for an answer.’

"Champ... Are you really serious? You want to go back to the school life that you really despised?"

His father was the first to speak, surprising Ren that his father or rather Ren’s father spoke so many words at once.

Ren replied in a calm, confident tone.

"Yes, Dad. I’m serious. I realized that I’ve missed out on a lot... and I want to experience it before I become a full grown adult."

Of course, Claire had taught him all the right things to say. After all, he was an Alderian through and through. He understood almost nothing about this world on his own.

His mother’s eyes brimmed with tears.

"Son... We would be more than happy to send you. Your father and I have been saving as much money as we could just in case you ever wanted to return to school. You never seemed too interested... but now that you’ve said this, we’re really happy."

---

Sometime later, they left the hospital.

Before they left, Nurse Sakura had taken Ren’s temperature and overall physical condition one last time to make sure that he was perfectly healed and healthy.

Ren’s parents thanked her sincerely.

She simply smiled and said,

"I’m just doing my job. I just love to see people leaving the hospital with smiles on their faces. That’s my goal to make everyone leave this place with a smile."

Ren had found that mentality very admirable.

Now the three of them sat at a bus stop, waiting for the bus that would arrive in less than ten minutes.

’Claire... It’s almost time’.

[Yes, Mr. Ren Sato. May your school life begin.]

The voice rang clear in his mind. For the first time since arriving in Japan, John felt a bit of confidence. With Claire by his side, finding a way back to Alderia was not impossible at all.
