Level 999: The Glitch King
Chapter 96: The Bait on the Throne
Seraphina did not ask Isabella why again. She asked for the full record. That was worse. Isabella hesitated. Then she released it. The Spire wall filled with dates. Seraphina at twelve. Seraphina at sixteen. Bloodline compatibility tests disguised as inheritance examinations. Throne-response drills described as etiquette instruction.
Before renewing anything, Seraphina asked for time alone with the terms. Jace gave it to her. Her family remained on the other side of the projection while she read. Their presence put every old pressure back in the room, but Seraphina still reached the button herself.
Jace noticed the renewed Accord felt weaker than ownership and stronger than trust had felt the first time. It had survived damage because neither person was trapped inside it. That was a feature the System still treated like instability.
Seraphina tested the new disclosure rule by volunteering information Jace had not requested: two dormant House protocols she believed harmless, one family contact route, and a sealed claim she could no longer open. None changed the current decision. She disclosed them anyway, before any of them could become leverage later. Jace read the three disclosures back to her before either of them touched the Accord.
A palace transfer listed as elevation. Every entry used a cleaner word than the thing it meant. Evelyn watched her daughter read.
"We loved you."
Seraphina did not turn.
"I know."
Evelyn looked relieved too soon.
"That does not make it better."
The relief disappeared. Jace stayed near the wall. This part was not his. The System tried to make it his anyway.
FREE ACCORD INTEGRITY REVIEW
Current Integrity: 37%.
Material Omission: VERIFIED.
Relationship Options:
REVOKE ACCORD.
ABSORB PRIOR CLAIM.
SUBORDINATE SERAPHINA.
RENEW ACCORD WITH REVISED TERMS.
Recommended:
Absorb Prior Claim.
Benefits:
Palace authority consolidated.
Throne permissions inherited.
Seraphina command conflict removed.
Jace closed the recommendation.
"Not subtle."
Henry looked at him.
"You already hold the superior claim. Consolidation is rational."
"So was taxing children."
"Do not compare my House to that bureaucracy."
Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author's consent. Report any sightings.
Jace looked at Seraphina's old file.
"Not doing the work for me."
Seraphina finally turned from the wall.
"What do you want?"
"Truth would've been nice."
"I mean now."
Jace thought about that. Anger was simple. Revoking the Accord would be simple too. But simple had become suspicious.
"I want to know if there's anything else."
Seraphina nodded.
"There is."
Henry shut his eyes. Jace almost laughed.
"Of course."
Seraphina opened her throne permissions.

CONFLICTING.
She looked sick.
"I did not know suppression assist remained active."
Breach Sight confirmed it. It was not a lie. The hidden function had been sealed beneath her noble claim. But the first omission remained. She had known enough. Jace looked at the branching options again.
"Do you still want the Accord?"
"Yes."
"Even if I strip every throne permission connected to it?"
Seraphina answered without looking at her family.
"Especially then."
Henry stepped forward.
"You would surrender the only authority protecting your bloodline."
Seraphina looked at him.
"No."
She touched the Free Accord.
"I would surrender yours."
Something in Isabella's face broke. It was not loyalty, at least not yet, but the certainty behind it. Jace selected RENEW ACCORD WITH REVISED TERMS. The System refused to finalize.
RENEWAL REQUIRES BOTH PARTIES.
Terms must be reviewed independently.
Seraphina received her own panel. So did Jace. No shared accept button. Good.
REVISED FREE ACCORD

Either Party May Leave: YES.

Jace selected ACCEPT. Seraphina did not. Not immediately. She read every line. Then read them again. Evelyn stepped toward her daughter's projection.
"Seraphina."
Seraphina looked at her.
"If I accept this, House Noble may consider you severed."
"I know."
"You may lose protections I cannot restore."
"I know."
"Then please think."
"I am."
Evelyn's voice softened.
"You are my daughter."
Seraphina's expression changed. Pain, not anger.
"Then let that be enough."
Evelyn had no answer. Seraphina selected ACCEPT.

Jace read the last line.
"Would've hated getting a sword for this."
Seraphina's expression eased. Isabella was still staring at the destroyed substitute permissions.
"You actually removed them."
Jace looked at her.
"That was the button."
"No."
She looked at Seraphina.
"I mean she let you."
Seraphina released Jace's hand.
"I chose it."
The distinction hit Isabella harder than the lost buff. Henry's projection faded first. Evelyn remained until Seraphina looked away. Isabella stayed longest. Before she vanished, she opened one private House record and pushed it into Avery's evidence queue.
PALACE PRIOR CLAIM
Holder: House Noble.
Registered Substitute: Seraphina Noble.
Crownline Containment Purpose: VERIFIED.
Avery accepted it. Isabella said nothing. She did not need to.
PRETRIAL EVIDENCE INVENTORY UPDATED
House Noble Prior Claim: ADMITTED.
Seraphina's old noble authority had been removed from the Palace. The record of it remained. And when the House Trial opened, the court would use that old claim as evidence against Jace.
