Isekai Journey Of The Magic Archer

Chapter 1091 Solutions are always within one's sight

[Eon’s POV: ]

“Hmmm~. Why is this much better than the storage food even though that one is practically the same?”

The food stored inside my storage skill did not change its form. The warm things stayed warm until I took them out, and cool things stayed that way.

Nothing changed about it, though, if one has to say, perhaps the taste of the food was more about the environment around us than what is inside of it.

“Well, it’s probably because it’s just made. I mean, we made it ourselves, and we saw it being made.

In our minds, this is still fresh, while what we take out from storage, while still being in the same state that it used to be, is not the same to our senses.”

President Zodiac logically explained it to them while taking a sip of his bowl of soup.

This was our first proper meal since we got here and since we were eating outside of the cave, we did not have to worry about disturbing anything that we have prepared inside.

When we were out here, it was simply about nature and the things around us. About the things that have happened until now… and what we are going to witness going forward.

“If we reheat what we take out from the storage skill, it should still taste well. But, it would not be the same as it was when we first made it.”

After the President’s explanation, Cradle also thought about it while looking at her empty plate.

She did certainly enjoy the food that I made but she still found the freshly made things to be slightly unique from the others.

‘Perhaps, it was all just our minds or perhaps, it was the notion of ‘freshness’ of the food.’

Whatever it might be, she was happy right now. After complaining for tens of times, having good food certainly cheered her mood up a bit.

“Haaa.”

The atmosphere was great here.

The five of us were eating, they were complimenting the food, our familiars were all playing around on the other side, and while Celes was looking out for any peculiarities, Del’s familiar, Mirror, was looking after Rein’s slime friend.

‘It was peaceful out here, for some strange reason.’

Our preparations were almost done.

We would start with the experiment soon so, while the preparations were complete for now, this would not have been possible if Rein hadn’t figured out the problem with the environment inside.

“Sometimes… the solutions are right before us.” I was mumbling to myself, thinking back to how she figured out the solution to something three of us had spent hours after.

It was strange in a way, but on the other side, it was also cool how she was the one that figured out the solution instead of us.

“Solutions are always within one’s sight.”

But while I thought I was only talking to myself, the headmaster spoke up while glancing at me, attracting attention from the others around us.

“Hmm?”

“Headmaster?”

The three were confused about what he was saying all of a sudden, but they could tell he was telling that to me.

He made it obvious, but then shook his head to the others so as to not worry about what he was saying.

“Don’t worry about it, you all. It was nothing.”

They all heard him say that, and yet, if he was saying it was nothing, they could not help but wonder what it was about even more.

“Eon?”

Rein, especially, could not help it when he was saying that it was nothing and looked at me with a curious expression. And, since I know they will continue this useless questioning if they don’t find out what it was about, I just told them.

“Headmaster just commented on something I was saying.”

While I was wondering how the solutions are within our sight sometimes, he said they are always there right before us.

“Just like how Rein figured out why the artifact was not working earlier, the solutions to a problem are within our grasp. But, until we can see it ourselves, we do not know of their existence.”

They thought it would be something secret and cool, but it wasn’t.

“Man… and here I thought it would be something cool.”

Del obviously found it boring, but then again, Rein ended up finding more meaning in those words than the other two realised.

“It’s always there… the answers…”

She nodded meaningfully as if to have been enlightened about something. But at the same time, I could tell she was not thinking about what we were thinking… or at least we weren’t on the same boat here.

‘Headmaster and I were talking about the answers, but she was again drifting off to something else.’

Though this time, she was attributing the ‘answer’ she found in my reasoning and applying it elsewhere… which ultimately gave her some new knowledge or angle that I did not understand.

[{ “What’s this about now?” }]

[{ “Hmm?” }]

My sudden question surprised her, but at least she wasn’t off into her own world of thoughts this time.

[{ “Ah, nothing. I was just thinking about my eyes… don’t worry about it.” }]

I wanted to not worry about it… about her as well, but after all that has been happening, it’s going to be a little difficult.

But still, this was not the time to dwell into those things.

“Huuuu… so.”

Attracting everyone’s attention, I straightened my back and looked at the rest of them with a new, serious expression.

“Tomorrow is the day.”

The familiars, Celes, Branwen, Sansan, Mirror and the slime, and Harry also gathered around us as soon as I started talking.

“We will start as soon as the dawn breaks on the horizon.

With the first rays of the sun, we will begin with turning on the artifacts and preparing the resources.”

Sansan’s skill did not just work on its own. The pinnacle skill of {Gluttony} was a unique skill that allowed the young Okagi to consume anything around it and turn into a golden (Pure) form of energy that it could either use or expel in the form of an elixir.

‘There were limitations to how many times it could condense the energy into a solid form and turn it into the golden elixir that the president has, but one shot was enough for this process.’

As soon as the energy from various elixirs and high purity materials that we have gathered becomes concentrated and turns into the elixir, the headmaster will use a device that will decompose the elixir and refine it with his own Aether.

‘Since we do not want it to have any particular type of energy like Mana, Aura, or even Aether, we will not directly infuse Aether into the elixir.’

The device that we have developed could use the Aether and, with a unique energy resonance effect, refine the elixir by decomposing its structure.

Breaking it down into simpler form will make it easier for me to refine it as the ‘energies’ that we are refining here is not entirely physical.

‘While energy itself is a broad concept, we are simply trying to take the purest of its essence that is close to the life essence of human beings or something we can compare to a materialised soul.’

Ultimately though, it would still be energy. And, since it would be very close to its pure form, it cannot exist in this world on its own.

‘While decomposing an elixir and dividing its components is an easy task for an archmage, we do not know the limitations of the artifact that we have created.’

Also, we do not know how I will be able to refine the other energy and filter out the purest of it but Lucy confirmed that the process was possible, so I’ve left that task in her hands.

Lastly, we know the amount of the pure energy that we are looking for would be too little compared to all the energy that we would be wasting in the process.

‘My body might be capable of holding all kinds of energies and Solnova might be a good medium of purification in this process, but still… we do not know what we will get at the end.’

If we get anything at all at the end of this process, then it will be something that has not existed and something that should not exist.

Similarly, if we fail, there’s a good chance that I will die And, this entire island will be destroyed.

“I’m counting on you… everyone.”

While the chances of the worst case scenario happening are little, we do not have the liberty to take any more risk here than we already are.

That’s why Del will be on the standby with a unique device that will not only shut down the main artifact, but also stop all the processes happening within me and Rein will be looking out for any anomalies that occur during the experiment.

“Let’s create the impossible.”

Why we are doing this… it does not matter. Should we really risk our lives? It does not matter either.

The reason and purpose of this study hold no meaning at this point.

‘I must do it.’

Everything is in place.

The time has arrived and I am ready.

The others around me…

“Yes… let’s do this.”

“I’m going to kill you if you fail, you bastard.”

“Good luck, everyone.”

“I’ll do my best as well, darling.”

They are also ready for this.

‘If we fail, the world will know the limitations of mortal kind and this world. And if we succeed, we will know the new extent of human capabilities.’

To challenge the norm and to challenge the limitations.

‘This experiment means a lot to me and these people with me.’

And, if we succeed with at least the conduction and survive, then, the results of our findings will mean a great lot to the rest of humanity as well…
