Chapter 91: Materials Secured, The Blueprint
Alvian pressed both palms against the ward structure. Clearwater Palm, sustained output. The dissolution was surgical. He could feel each ward layer dissolving in sequence, the energy constructs breaking apart at the molecular level. Hydroxyl radicals finding bonds and severing them with chemical precision. The first layer crumbled in three seconds. The second took five. The third, the dimensional lock, resisted for a full eight seconds before its anchored coordinates dissolved into nothing.
Seventeen Essence drained. The wards collapsed. The treasury door opened with a soft click that sounded almost disappointed.
Inside: pre-Cataclysm alloy rods arranged in a display rack like trophies. Twelve Rank 3 Essence cores glowing green in a sealed case. A cache of medicinal herbs worth a fortune on the grey market, preserved in stasis containers that had kept them fresh for decades.
His spatial ring devoured the materials. Every rod. Every core. Every herb. The treasury that had taken the Magnus family generations to accumulate was emptied in ninety seconds. He paused only to note the empty spaces where items had been, the ghost outlines of wealth that would never fill these shelves again.

An hour later, Serah and Tobias emerged from the Undercity tunnel entrance in the estate’s wine cellar. The tunnel was old pre-Cataclysm construction, connecting the Upper Ward to the thirteenth level through a maintenance corridor that had been forgotten by everyone except the scavengers who used it for smuggling.
Tobias moved differently now. His new arm caught the dim light as he tested it against the cellar door frame. The crawler crystal joints hummed with each motion, green light pulsing through the synthetic skin. He gripped the frame and squeezed. The stone cracked. He released it, flexing his fingers with an expression that kept shifting between wonder and something that looked like grief.
"Fifteen years," he muttered. "Fifteen years with that rusted piece of junk. And this thing works better after twenty minutes of bug cores and scrap metal." He turned to Alvian. "I keep waiting for it to break."
"It will not break. The carbon integument self-repairs from ambient Essence."
"I heard you the first time. Still waiting."
Serah already had her circuitry pad out, scanning the estate’s infrastructure with rapid sweeps. "The Essence-conductive pathways in these walls are incredible. The Magnus family invested more in their plumbing than the Academy invests in its entire medical wing." She paused on a data point, her eyes narrowing. "These pathways could channel healing energy at ten times standard capacity if properly configured."
"Good. Map them. We will need that data for the array design."
They split up. Tobias hauled raw materials from the forge, his new arm lifting crates that would have taken three men before. The crawler crystal joints amplified his grip strength to the point where iron ingots felt like kindling. Serah mapped infrastructure, her pad recording every Essence-conductive channel in the walls. Alvian swept the armory and secondary storage, dissolving locks with casual touches of his palm.
The work was quiet, efficient, professional. Three people who had learned to move fast because slow got you killed in the Undercity.
By 4:30 AM, the estate was stripped. Every useful material loaded into spatial rings. Every infrastructure scan recorded. Every ward dissolved and catalogued. The Magnus family’s accumulated wealth of decades, gone in ninety minutes of systematic extraction.
Alvian stood in the empty courtyard one last time. The bloodstains were still there. The dissolution craters were still there. The evidence of what he had done to Duke Gaius Magnus three days ago, preserved in stone and obsidian glass.
Serah appeared at his shoulder. "We should go."
"I know."
"You keep looking at the blood."
’I keep seeing his face. The moment the acid reached his heart. The moment he understood what E-Rank Clearwater really meant.’
"Let’s move," he said.
They disappeared into the tunnels. Behind them, the Magnus Estate stood empty. Stripped. Hollowed out. A monument to ambition that had tried to crush an Undercity kid and been dissolved for its trouble.
By dawn, the Crown would learn. Guards would be dispatched. Investigators would find an empty treasury, stripped forge, and three sets of footprints leading nowhere. They would write reports. The reports would sit on desks. The desks would belong to officials who had bigger problems than a dead Duke’s missing property.
By then, the materials would be inside the Academy’s ruined medical wing. And the political calculus would have shifted permanently.

Tobias’s kitchen table was not designed for engineering.
It was designed for one man to eat stale bread and drink bitter tea while watching the Undercity’s perpetual twilight through a cracked window. The table was small. Warped. One leg shorter than the others, propped up with a folded piece of cardboard that had once been a noodle shop menu.
Serah spread her circuitry pad across it anyway, and the holographic display turned the cramped kitchen into a war room.
"The Academy medical wing." She pulled up schematics acquired through her student credentials. The hologram showed a building that no longer existed in its original form. "As it was before the Calamity Rift."
The schematic displayed a three-story structure with Essence-conductive plumbing running through every wall. Healing arrays embedded in treatment room floors. Recovery wards with ambient Essence generators. The infrastructure had cost millions of credits and taken four years to construct.
All of it was gone now. The Rift had gutted the building like a fish. Collapsed walls. Shattered plumbing. The healing arrays reduced to fused slag that could not be salvaged or repaired. Students who had been treated there were now crowded into converted dormitories, their injuries healing slowly or not at all.
Alvian processed the schematic in seconds. The standard approach would be reconstruction. Clear the rubble. Rebuild the walls. Replace the plumbing. Reinstall healing arrays. Six months of work. Millions of credits in materials and labor. And the result would be a copy of what already existed, vulnerable to the same failures that destroyed it.
His approach was different. He was not going to rebuild. He was going to create.
The design crystallized in his mind like a crystal forming from supersaturated solution. Not a reconstruction. An invention. A Molecular Forge healing array built into the wing’s central chamber, using Magnus Estate dimensional crystal as conductive substrate, alloy rods as structural framework, and his own Clearwater resonance as the activation catalyst.
The array would not heal through conventional Essence infusion. Essence infusion was slow, inefficient, and limited by the healer’s output. His array would heal through controlled dissolution. Breaking down damaged tissue to its component molecules. Reading the body’s original template from dimensional memory stored in the patient’s DNA. Then reforming the tissue according to that template. Whole. Functional. Perfect.
He started sketching on Serah’s pad. The design flowed from his INT 209 like water finding its path downhill. A circular array, fifteen meters in diameter. Twelve Essence-conductive pylons arranged in a ring around a central focus. The pylons would cascade their amplification, each one boosting the signal from the next, creating a resonance field that magnified the Molecular Forge’s output by orders of magnitude.
The central focus would be a Molecular Forge anchor. A crystal sphere forged from the Magnus Estate dimensional crystal, imprinted with his Clearwater resonance. It would channel dissolved-and-reformed tissue molecules toward wounded bodies, guided by the template stored in their own cellular structure.
Serah stared at the schematic as it took shape. Her scientific mind raced ahead of her mouth for once, processing implications that her vocabulary struggled to contain.
"You are not building a healing array," she said finally. Her voice carried scientific awe and something else. Something that sounded like fear dressed up as excitement. "You are building a Molecular Forge-based regeneration system. That is not medicine. That is reconstruction at the atomic level. That is taking someone apart and putting them back together according to the original blueprint."
"Yes."
"That should not be possible."
"I have done it already. With Tobias’s arm."
