Chapter 671: Chapter 671: It’s Troublesome to Have Pursuers

A flicker of interest appeared in the man’s eyes, but it was gone in an instant. "If I let you go, what’s to stop you from going back on your word? Do you take me for a fool?"

Theo Rhodes gestured with his chin toward the gun in the man’s hand. "You have that. If I try to trick you, you can shoot me anytime."

The man finally lowered his guard, dropping the muzzle of his gun slightly. "Let’s go. But you do as I say."

Theo Rhodes finally breathed a sigh of relief. He turned slightly, walking sideways to keep Claire Sinclair from being fully exposed.

They hadn’t gone far when a commotion erupted behind them. It sounded like a large group of people had arrived.

Theo Rhodes spoke up. "Are those your people coming after us? If you have to split fifty million with all of them, you’re not going to get much of a share."

The man thought for a moment. His eyes landed on a recess in the wall behind them, just large enough for two people to squeeze into. "Get in there," he said. "I’ll handle them."

"Alright." Theo Rhodes immediately helped Claire Sinclair into the crevice.

The man moved a few discarded crates to block the opening.

He had just turned around when the pursuers arrived. He immediately feigned exhaustion, pointed ahead, and said, "They’re just up ahead! Quick, after them!"

Hearing this, the group immediately ran off.

The man breathed a sigh of relief and started to move the wooden crates aside.

Theo Rhodes immediately helped Claire Sinclair out, carrying her on his back. He was just about to speak when suddenly—BANG! A bloody hole appeared in the man’s head, and gore splattered everywhere...

"AHH!" Claire Sinclair screamed in terror. A jolt of shock shot through her entire body. Her heart felt like it was about to pound out of her chest as she began to tremble uncontrollably.

Theo Rhodes instinctively took a step back, tucking her back into the crevice in the wall. He narrowed his eyes, studying the group that had just arrived.

These men were in plainclothes. He could tell they weren’t from Hell’s Paradise, nor were they from Quincy Manor. They didn’t have the same air about them.

For the moment, he couldn’t tell if they were friend or foe.

The leader glanced at Theo Rhodes, then his eyes shifted to Claire Sinclair behind him. He shouted, "Chase!" and led his men away at a run.

Claire Sinclair: "..."

Theo Rhodes: "..."

After a long moment, Theo Rhodes finally spoke. "Who were those people?"

"They might be Orion Osborne’s men," Claire Sinclair concluded.

"Should we keep going, then?"

"Let’s go. We’ll be in trouble if more pursuers show up behind us."

Theo Rhodes nodded, and he continued heading for the exit.

Gunshots occasionally echoed from behind them, but the sound grew fainter and fainter.

Carrying a person for so long was exhausting, so Theo Rhodes had to stop and rest periodically. During this time, they encountered several people passing by—all of them were Orion Osborne’s men, and they all acted as if they didn’t see the pair.

After walking for about ten more minutes, they finally saw an exit. "Master, there’s a light up ahead!" Theo exclaimed in pleasant surprise.

"That must be the exit. Let’s hurry!"

"Yeah!" Theo Rhodes was instantly re-energized and quickened his pace toward the outside.

When they reached the exit, a blinding light assaulted their eyes, accompanied by a rush of hot, fresh air. As the sunlight washed over them, it felt as if their very souls were being cleansed.

’It feels so good...’

"You can put me down now," Claire Sinclair said. "I feel like I can walk again."

"Alright." Theo Rhodes carefully set her down.

Claire Sinclair’s legs were still a bit weak, but she could walk as long as she didn’t try to go too fast.

They took a few steps forward and came to a small drop-off. Theo Rhodes jumped down first, then turned and lifted Claire Sinclair down after him.

Once on the ground, they both stood frozen, staring blankly at the scene before them.

They were in a desolate courtyard. The exit they had just come through was hidden within a rockery.

Several bodies lay scattered around the courtyard. The blood was still wet, and they could faintly make out its metallic scent.
