Chapter 670: Chapter 670: How Could I Possibly Leave You Behind Alone?

Theo Rhodes glanced back as well and couldn’t resist asking, "How much farther to the exit in this secret passage?"

"At least twenty minutes, at the fastest," Orion Osborne said. "This tunnel is rather complex. If a fight breaks out, there’s plenty of room to take cover. If anything happens, you two find a place to hide."

The words had barely left his mouth when a rustling sound came from behind them.

Theo Rhodes said instantly, "Someone’s catching up to us!"

Orion Osborne spun around, shielding the two of them behind him. He brandished a weapon and, turning his head slightly, said, "Protect Claire. Keep moving forward. I’ll cover our rear."

Theo Rhodes nodded. "Don’t worry, I will. Claire, let’s go."

Not wanting to slow them down, Claire Sinclair just nodded and walked forward in silence. She didn’t dare look back, afraid that her fear would make her fall apart at a critical moment.

After a few minutes of walking, gunshots suddenly erupted behind them.

They both whipped their heads around at the same time, just in time to see sparks flying around the corner. ’They’ve started fighting!’

Orion Osborne suddenly came running up to them, yelling, "Move faster! Hurry!"

As soon as he said it, another burst of intense gunfire echoed from behind.

Without a second thought, Theo Rhodes grabbed Claire Sinclair’s wrist and broke into a run, pulling her along.

As they ran, Claire Sinclair’s leg condition suddenly flared up. Her body went limp in an instant, and she collapsed to the ground.

Theo Rhodes rushed to support her. "Claire, what’s wrong? Can’t you run anymore?"

"You go on ahead... Don’t worry about me..." Claire Sinclair gasped for breath, her forehead beaded with sweat. Her legs had gone completely numb, refusing to move.

Theo Rhodes said, exasperated, "Don’t be ridiculous. How could I possibly leave you behind? Claire, get up. I’ll get you out of here."

Claire Sinclair tried to sound casual. "I can’t run anymore. You go on ahead. I’ll just rest for a bit and catch up."

"Then I’ll wait for you here." Theo Rhodes stopped in his tracks. There was no way he was going to abandon a defenseless woman and save himself!

Claire Sinclair grew frantic. "I told you to go! There’s something wrong with my legs—they freeze up whenever I get nervous or scared! If you don’t leave, I’ll only drag you down!"

"Then I’ll just carry you. Claire, get on." Theo Rhodes turned his back to her and crouched down.

But Claire Sinclair didn’t move. "They won’t kill me. Just go. Don’t worry about me."

"Claire, think about Brother Quincy! Think about your baby! Don’t say such hopeless things. I will get you out of here, I swear!"

Claire Sinclair froze. She had been so afraid of dragging others down that she’d chosen to stay behind. ’But that’s just giving up on myself,’ she realized. ’I can’t do that.’

Finally steeling herself, Claire Sinclair climbed onto his back. "If you get tired, just tell me. You can put me down anytime."

"Stop talking. Let’s go!" Theo Rhodes took off at a sprint with her on his back.

Fortunately, Claire Sinclair wasn’t heavy. For Theo Rhodes, carrying her felt no different than his old judo training regimens. He ran for several minutes without feeling strained.

Claire Sinclair was finally seeing his athletic prowess firsthand. ’He’s incredible!’

Just as she was starting to breathe a little easier, a loud gunshot cracked through the air behind them.

BANG—

’So close!’

Claire Sinclair’s heart leaped into her throat. "Are they catching up?"

"I think so!" Theo Rhodes grew anxious as well. He glanced back; he couldn’t see anyone yet, but he could hear their footsteps.

The next second, a burly bodyguard in a suit stepped out from around the bend, gun in hand.

Theo Rhodes spun around, shielding Claire Sinclair behind him. He tried to negotiate. "Hey, buddy, how about this? Put down the gun and escort us out of here, and I’ll give you fifty million. That’s enough to last you several lifetimes. You won’t have to sell your life for those people anymore. Besides, you must know that Quincy Manor is already moving against this place. They could raze it to the ground at any moment. You won’t have a future here anyway. What do you say?"
