Chapter 668: Chapter 668: Claire, I’m Glad You’re Safe

’Wait a second, I think I’m focusing on the wrong thing!’

Claire Sinclair asked in astonishment, "So, I was kidnapped and brought here because those people are actually after that massive fortune, and they think I know where it is?"

Adrian Quincy nodded.

Claire Sinclair said irritably, "If I knew that kind of money existed, why would I still be working as a reporter? I would’ve hired a team of miners and gone to dig up the treasure chest ages ago. Honestly!"

Her vexed but adorable expression made Adrian Quincy chuckle, but he still had to remind her, "You were the only person your sister called before she died. It’s perfectly understandable why some people might think she told you about this."

"But besides asking how I was doing, my sister never told me anything about her work. Not a single thing."

"I believe you, Claire."

Claire Sinclair pouted. "It doesn’t matter if you believe me. They’re the ones who don’t. Does this mean they’re going to kidnap me again?"

Adrian Quincy’s gaze hardened, and he said in a low voice, "This money might not even exist. And even if it does, there’s no way that person would have told your sister about it. I’ve always believed this whole thing is a conspiracy."

"That sounds so complicated..." Not wanting to get dragged into it, Claire said, "Maybe you shouldn’t tell me any more. I’m afraid the more I know, the more trouble will find me. It’s better to keep it simple."

"Alright, I won’t say any more. I’ll go get you something to eat." With that, Adrian Quincy started to get up.

Feeling a little anxious, Claire Sinclair quickly grabbed his hand. "Don’t go. I’m not hungry."

His heart ached for her. Adrian Quincy sat back down on the edge of the bed, holding her hand with one of his and placing the other on her belly. Suddenly, his voice filled with delighted surprise. "Claire, the baby’s gotten a little bigger."

"Has it?" Claire Sinclair raised her own hand to feel her stomach. "It hasn’t gotten bigger. That’s probably just a bit of a tummy. All I’ve done recently is eat and sleep, with no exercise at all."

Seeing her endearingly frustrated expression, Adrian Quincy’s anxious heart finally began to settle.

"Claire, thank God you’re safe." He pulled her into a grateful embrace, unwilling to ever let go again.

Claire’s chin rested on his shoulder. She blinked, and a captivating smile slowly graced her lips.

’He’s still here. How could I ever leave before him?’

’I’m the one who should be grateful. Thank God he came. I knew he would.’

Perhaps because she had been on high alert for the past several days, Claire Sinclair fell asleep soon after Adrian Quincy’s arrival. She even dreamed, and she was smiling throughout the entire dream.

Adrian Quincy watched over her quietly, holding her hand, not daring to let go for a single moment.

He glanced up at the wall clock. Half an hour until one o’clock.

’It’s almost time.’

Adrian Quincy gently nudged her shoulder, waking her. "Claire, wake up."

"Mmm..." Claire Sinclair reluctantly opened her eyes, her vision still a bit blurry. "Adrian, what is it?"

Adrian Quincy helped her sit up and whispered, "We’re about to make our move. Get up and get your head clear. Things might get intense, so you need to stay focused the entire time. Don’t let your guard down for a single second."

Seeing his grim expression, any sleepiness Claire Sinclair felt instantly vanished. She scrambled out of bed and started doing simple stretches to quickly energize herself.

Just then, the doorbell suddenly rang.

Claire Sinclair’s heart clenched. She instinctively looked toward the door. "Adrian, someone’s at the door."

Adrian Quincy patted her shoulder. "I’ll get it. Don’t come out."

"Okay." Claire Sinclair went back and sat on the edge of the bed.
