Chapter 667: Chapter 667: A Mix of Dragons and Fish
The two of them held each other quietly for a moment. Claire Sinclair pulled away from his embrace and looked him over, her gaze careful and serious. Her heart ached at what she saw.
"Why did you have to get so thin?"
"I’m sorry," Adrian Quincy apologized sincerely.
Claire Sinclair shot him a look. "I don’t want to chew you out right now. We’ll settle this after we get back. Just tell me, how did you get down here?"
"Red J told me the entrance, and I brought my people in."
"Huh??" Claire Sinclair was stunned. "You brought people with you?"
Adrian Quincy gave a slight nod. "They’re outside, waiting for the signal. They’ll rush in when the time is right. For now, you can have some lunch and even take a nap. When you wake up, I’ll take you home."
Claire Sinclair stared at him for a long moment before murmuring, "This all feels a little unreal. I’m not dreaming, am I?"
"You’re not dreaming. I’m real."
"Then how did you get 1.1 billion?"
Adrian Quincy slowly lowered his head and whispered in her ear, "The money belongs to Elder Hartwell, not me."
Claire Sinclair was incredulous. "You mean, money from the old director’s family?"
Adrian Quincy nodded. "The Hartwell Family is vast and powerful. The Astoria Daily isn’t even their primary business. Henry Hartwell is incredibly wealthy, but he’s also very low-key."
Claire Sinclair’s lips parted, but for a moment, she didn’t know what to say.
’It’s true what they say. The truly rich are always low-key; only the nouveau riche love to flaunt their wealth.’
’Teacher Hartwell... he really is something else.’
Adrian Quincy brought the conversation back on topic. "This place is a nest of vipers, with numerous factions. It’s impossible to wipe them all out in one go, but catching a few of the big fish won’t be hard. No matter what happens later, don’t leave my side."
Claire Sinclair immediately hugged his arm. "Nothing could make me leave your side this time!"
The corners of Adrian Quincy’s lips lifted into a slight smile. He raised a hand and patted the back of hers. "How have you been this whole time?"
"I’ve been fine, really. Aside from not seeing the sun, everything was okay. Orion Osborne arranged a place for me to stay and even lent me his ring to wear for a while, so no one dared to hurt me. But then one day, I couldn’t help myself and ran out to find Theo Rhodes. Somehow, my identity was exposed, and I got caught."
Adrian Quincy was silent for a moment before analyzing the situation. "If someone like Henry Hartwell came to a place like this, he’d be captured 100% of the time. With Theo Rhodes following him down, he was bound to be targeted. I suspect someone had their eyes on Theo from the moment he arrived, and it wasn’t necessarily the big boss’s people. It could have been another faction."
His words made something click for Claire Sinclair. "No wonder Orion Osborne said the people who captured me had something to do with my sister. Orion rescued me from them, but because I was hiding in my room, they couldn’t confirm my identity. It wasn’t until I went looking for Theo Rhodes that they were sure it was me."
She paused, then couldn’t help but ask, "Adrian, do you know who those people are? The ones connected to my sister."
Adrian Quincy shook his head lightly. "I’m not sure."
Claire Sinclair stared into his eyes suspiciously and muttered under her breath, "I can tell you’re lying just by listening to you."
Seeing her displeasure, Adrian Quincy couldn’t bear it and finally relented.
"Your sister once captured a crime lord worth a hundred billion. But on the way back, during his transport, the man suddenly committed suicide, leaving behind a hundred-billion-dollar fortune with no trace of its whereabouts. Because of that, some people suspect your sister knew where the money was. That was the trigger for her murder."
Claire Sinclair was utterly stunned. She never imagined her sister had been caught up in something like this. Just hearing about it sounded incredibly dangerous.
