Chapter 570: Chapter 570: Isn’t This Very Troublesome?
Claire Sinclair frowned. "There’s a problem. The informant sent the address for Xenogen Pharmacy to the Astoria Daily and then disappeared. Do you think the boss behind Xenogen Pharmacy knows about this?"
Hearing this, Theo Rhodes grew tense. "If they know about this, then they probably know why we’re here, too."
Claire Sinclair thought for a long moment before speaking. "I’ve thought of a way to test if they know why we’re here."
"What is it?"
"We just need to find a list of the key personnel at Miracle Health Clinic, then start digging through their online chat logs. We should be able to find a breakthrough there."
Theo Rhodes said, "Isn’t that a lot of trouble?"
Claire Sinclair took a soft breath and said in a low voice, "It’ll be much easier if we filter by keywords. I’ll give it a try."
With that, she turned her attention to the computer.
About two hours later, Claire Sinclair had drawn a character relationship chart in a Word document and saved several screenshots of chat logs that she had filtered by keyword.
One of them was a conversation between Joan Jacobs and Cyrus Marshall.
Joan: Brother Carl, has that woman agreed yet?
Cyrus Marshall FFS: Damn it, that bitch Claire Sinclair won’t give me the time of day. If I wasn’t trying to see if she knows about that thing, I wouldn’t even bother with her.
Joan: So, did you find anything out?
Cyrus Marshall FFS: Find out my ass. I’ve been waiting forever and she hasn’t gotten back to me.
Joan: Why don’t you just call and ask?
Cyrus Marshall FFS: Calling is no fun. I’ll go over in person in a bit to check things out.
...
The last message in this screenshot was sent ten minutes ago.
Just as Claire Sinclair was about to speak, the doorbell suddenly rang.
A bodyguard’s voice came from outside the door. "Young Madam, someone is here to see you."
Claire Sinclair turned her head slightly and looked up at Landon Winston. "Winston, go open the door. Tell them I have diarrhea and it’s not a good time to see anyone. Have him talk to Theo Rhodes if it’s urgent."
Landon Winston glanced at the young man sitting behind her. "Then how is he supposed to get back to his room?"
Claire Sinclair said calmly, "Theo Rhodes doesn’t need to go back to his room. You can remind Cyrus Marshall to call my assistant."
"I understand." Landon Winston turned and walked out.
Theo Rhodes immediately whispered, "Master, what’s the plan? I don’t quite get it."
Claire Sinclair whispered back, "When he calls you in a bit, you pretend you have diarrhea too. Make it convincing. Stall for as long as you can, so they don’t get impatient and do something that puts us at a disadvantage."
"Okay!" Theo Rhodes nodded.
Less than two minutes later, Theo Rhodes’s phone rang, just as she’d predicted.
Theo Rhodes glanced at the caller ID and said immediately, "Master, it really is Cyrus Marshall."
"Answer it."
"Okay." Theo Rhodes nodded, answered the call, and put it on speakerphone.
Director Marshall’s fawning voice came through the phone. "Assistant Rhodes, how’s it going? What did Reporter Sinclair say? I’m getting antsy waiting over here."
Clutching his stomach, Theo Rhodes said in a hushed voice, "Director Marshall, I think my master and I ate something bad. We both have diarrhea. I’m in the bathroom right now. I’ll call you back in a bit."
Director Marshall went "Ah?" and said, "Diarrhea, huh? Our clinic has an anti-diarrhea medicine made from a secret ancestral recipe. Should I have some sent over to you?"
Theo Rhodes refused. "No, that’s okay. My master already sent someone out to buy some medicine. Director Marshall, I’ll call you back in a bit... urgh—"
The final, long, drawn-out sound was as if he were constipated.
