Chapter 565: Chapter 565: The Benefits of Being Mr. Quincy’s Girlfriend

’Did those childish words really just come out of his mouth?’

’It would be great if he could come, of course, but she felt that was unrealistic.’

’Oh well. I should just take a shower and go to sleep. I have to deal with social obligations tomorrow anyway.’

「The next day.」

At eight in the morning, City E’s annual Watermelon Festival was about to kick off at Watermelon Square. The square was already packed with thousands of spectators, some from out of town and some local.

When Claire Sinclair and Theo Rhodes arrived at the event, the head of the Watermelon Festival, Chase Wade, greeted them with a beaming smile, a group of staff members in tow.

"Reporter Sinclair, welcome! I’m Chase Wade, the organizer of this year’s Watermelon Festival. Your presence truly honors our City E!"

Probably because they were wary of her status as Adrian Quincy’s girlfriend, no one dared to shake her hand.

Despite this, Claire Sinclair still felt a little uncomfortable with the enthusiastic flattery from these local officials. Fortunately, she was no longer the type to get nervous.

Claire Sinclair maintained a polite and composed expression. "You’re too kind. This is my assistant, Theo Rhodes."

With that, she gestured toward Theo Rhodes.

Chase Wade immediately extended a friendly hand to Theo Rhodes. "Assistant Rhodes, a pleasure to meet you!"

Theo Rhodes politely raised his hand to shake his. "President Wade, hello."

The next second, a crowd of enthusiastic people swarmed over.

"Assistant Rhodes, hello! I’m Erwin Carson, the chief of Watermelon Village!"

"Assistant Rhodes, I’m Don Wallace, the chief of Pumpkin Village!"

"Assistant Rhodes, I’m..."

Claire Sinclair was pushed to the side by the crowd. She watched her young assistant with a touch of schadenfreude. Ever since she became a reporter, this was the first time she’d found a perk to being Mr. Quincy’s girlfriend: no one dared to shake her hand.

’Poor Theo...’

After the pleasantries were over, Claire Sinclair and Theo Rhodes were cordially invited to take their seats. A staff member immediately came over and handed them two exquisitely designed paper bags.

Inside the bags were the Watermelon Festival’s press release and promotional brochures, which included content on the festival’s origins and some local cultural highlights.

Claire Sinclair gave them a quick look-over and found quite a few grammatically incorrect sentences in the brochure, but she didn’t say anything.

The Watermelon Festival proceeded according to schedule. After the opening ceremony, the leaders went on stage to give speeches, followed by performances featuring local culture. Once that concluded, the Watermelon Competition officially began.

The Watermelon Competition was divided into two parts: the Best Melon Contest and the Melon Eating Contest.

The Best Melon Contest was to see whose melon was the biggest, while the Melon Eating Contest was to see who could eat the most melon the fastest. It sounded a bit dull, but when the competitions actually started, the cheers from the enthusiastic crowd created a lively atmosphere.

The Watermelon Competition was all over by noon.

In reality, Claire Sinclair’s work was just beginning, as she now had to face a slew of social obligations.

Next, the festival organizers invited the media to a "Watermelon Banquet." At these kinds of local functions, you could generally expect to be pressured to drink, and sometimes, for unusual incidents to occur.

At the banquet, people kept urging Claire Sinclair to drink. Theo Rhodes dutifully stepped in to drink on her behalf. The local liquor tasted light going down, but it had a powerful kick.

After just a few glasses, Theo Rhodes was already drunk. Claire Sinclair had to have someone help him back to the hotel to rest.

Claire Sinclair was left alone at the banquet. After finally finishing her pleasantries with a few important figures, she was about to sit down for a short break. Unexpectedly, Chase Wade suddenly walked over and discreetly slipped a business card into her hand.

"Reporter Sinclair, this is the business card of Director Marshall from the Miracle Health Clinic. He’d like to get to know you."

’Director Marshall from the Miracle Health Clinic?’

Claire Sinclair frowned. "What do you mean by this?"
