Chapter 564: Chapter 564: Claire, I Miss You So Much

It wasn’t unusual for a slaughterhouse driver to earn over ten thousand a month. After all, truck drivers often worked irregular hours, day and night, and that figure could easily include commission.

What puzzled Claire Sinclair was why a transport truck from a slaughterhouse would be going into a pharmaceutical factory.

’Was it just on the way?’

To get to the bottom of it, Claire Sinclair pulled the surveillance footage from several cameras along the truck’s route. She confirmed that before entering the pharmaceutical factory, the truck’s previous stop had been the incinerator north of the slaughterhouse.

Theo Rhodes said, "Master, maybe the driver has a relative who works at the factory?"

"We’ll know once we check."

Claire Sinclair looked up the man’s information, confirming he had a wife and child. His wife was currently in their hometown taking care of the child, and the driver was the family’s sole breadwinner.

Seeing this, Theo Rhodes suggested, "Why don’t I find some time to go meet the driver?"

Claire Sinclair nodded. "Go after the Watermelon Contest ends. For now, you should head back and get some rest."

"Okay, Master. You get some rest too." After saying this, Theo Rhodes left the room.

Then, Claire Sinclair asked Landon Winston and the other two bodyguards to leave her room, leaving her by herself.

Picking up her phone, she looked at her WeChat screen. The Great Demon King Quincy had finally replied!

Adrian Quincy: Something urgent came up, so I haven’t had a chance to check my phone. Did you miss me?

Claire’s face flushed. ’That guy is so flirty even in his texts,’ she thought. ’I can’t take it.’

Claire: Didn’t miss you one bit.

Adrian Quincy: So you’re angry. Sorry.

Claire: Not angry either.

Adrian Quincy: If you don’t miss me and you’re not angry, then what is it?

Blushing, Claire Sinclair initiated a video call.

She thought he would reject it, but the call connected.

The man’s picture-perfect features filled the screen. She could also see the background behind him: a vast, empty conference room. But a sign in the center of the frame told her everything.

It was an iconic location within the Cabinet Building—Astoria Hall, the very place where all the nation’s past presidents had been elected.

’Why is he in such a hallowed hall all by himself?’

"Are you in Astoria Hall right now?"

"Mhm." The man nodded.

"Why haven’t you gone home yet? It’s so late."

Adrian Quincy said matter-of-factly, "You’re not home. There’s no point in going back."

"I..." Claire was suddenly speechless.

She was always the one waiting for him to come home; it was rarely the one waiting for her. She could feel his longing and his attachment to her, and a dull ache spread through her chest.

Adrian Quincy’s lips slowly curved into a smile. "Claire, close your eyes. Let me get a good look at you."

"Um..." Claire’s face grew warm. "Can’t you see me just fine like this?"

"Don’t be shy. Close your eyes."

"Alright." Claire obediently closed her eyes.

Adrian Quincy’s fingertips gently traced the lines of her face as he imagined she was right there in front of him, so close he could feel her breath.

His Claire. His entire world...

So far, yet so close.

"Claire, I really miss you," the man said suddenly.

Claire’s eyes snapped open, a hint of sorrow in them. "Is something wrong? Are you upset?"

"Nothing’s wrong," he said. "I’m just not used to you being away."

"I’ve only been gone for less than a day. Why are you being so clingy? You can’t be like this!"

Adrian Quincy was silent for a moment, then suddenly said, "I’ll have to find an excuse to come and see you. Good night."

With that, the video call ended.

Claire blinked. ’Was he serious?’
