As much as she wanted to help her client, she couldn’t trouble Ryan Sterling with something like this.

He was already busy with work, and she had already troubled him so much with her own lawsuit!

If she let Ryan Sterling interfere in her work matters again, Evelyn Grant would feel too guilty.

"I want you to be happier. This is for our child, too! The doctor said that when the mother is in a good mood, the fetus can sense it! If you’re happy, our baby will be happy too."

"I’m not really worried about anything right now. Work stress is unavoidable, but I can handle it myself."

Seeing how insistent Evelyn Grant was, Ryan Sterling didn’t press the issue.

In the afternoon, her remote workday ended, and she returned to the law firm.

The moment she walked in the door, two colleagues who had been talking saw Evelyn Grant and immediately stopped their conversation. They smiled and waved hello, but the whole thing felt very strange!

It was as if everyone was avoiding her.

Evelyn Grant got in the elevator. Just as she reached her office floor, she overheard two of the firm’s assistants talking about why they had worked from home that day.

"Didn’t they say the main breaker was broken today?"

"And you believed that?"

"Then what other special reason could there be to work from home? It’s not like Mr. Shaw overslept and made that up as an excuse, could it?"

One of the assistants pursed her lips. "Didn’t you think that notice was a little last-minute? Besides, I had to pull the security footage from the lobby because I lost a file, and guess what I discovered?"

"What?"

"This morning, no so-called repairmen ever came to the firm to fix the breaker! The entire morning, the place was completely quiet!"

Evelyn Grant froze.

She suddenly recalled what Ryan Sterling had said to her!

’How could he have predicted something would happen at the firm, letting me eat breakfast in peace?’

It was so strange.

Evelyn Grant waited for the assistants to leave before she went into her office.

She sat down, intending to get to the pile of work waiting for her, but her mind was filled with the conversation she’d just overheard!

’Could it be...’

’...that Ryan Sterling and Mr. Shaw know each other?’

’Did he know I overslept and have Mr. Shaw deliberately announce that the breaker was broken, just to bend the rules for me so I could have that breakfast?’

The more she thought about it, the more likely it seemed!

After all, coincidences certainly happened, but for two to occur back-to-back like this was just too improbable.

Besides, getting fired from the firm just for gossiping about her relationship with Mr. Shaw was an incredibly severe punishment, which was also suspicious.

Still, Evelyn Grant didn’t dare to be completely certain.

It was highly improbable, but not necessarily impossible.

But verifying this would be easy enough for Evelyn Grant.

With just a little probing, she could find out whether Ryan Sterling and Mr. Shaw truly knew each other.

Evelyn Grant sighed to herself as she sat at her computer.

In the past, she had desperately wished for Julian Sterling to show her some care, to give her just a little bit of love and attention in return! That way, she could have at least lied to herself and let things continue as they were.

But now, Ryan Sterling’s love was crashing over her like a tidal wave!

Evelyn Grant felt like she could barely handle it all.

’I can’t just keep enjoying being pampered and cared for without giving anything in return, can I?’

The hard part was, Ryan Sterling didn’t seem to want for anything.

Even if she wanted to repay him with something, it was hard to come up with anything.

Suddenly, a knock came from outside her office.

Evelyn Grant looked up. "Come in."
