I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 78: We Just Have to Keep Moving Forward
Chapter 78: Chapter 78: We Just Have to Keep Moving Forward
What mattered to him was that she could be by his side—and not as his "sister-in-law" or another man’s girlfriend.
Ryan Sterling was willing, even if he never got to be called her husband.
"You..."
Evelyn Grant opened her mouth to say something, but hesitated.
After a moment of consideration, she finally spoke. "Ryan Sterling, with your standing, you could find a girl a thousand times better than me. There’s really no need—"
"I think it’s necessary, and you don’t. So tell me, who gets to decide?"
The space inside the car wasn’t large; they could even hear each other breathing.
Evelyn Grant didn’t dare raise her eyes to meet his.
Because Ryan Sterling’s eyes were like a deep spring, threatening to pull you in.
She couldn’t meet a gaze like that.
"Do you know what you’ll have to face if you insist on this?"
’This was going to be a predictably difficult path.’
’Ryan Sterling had countless easier paths he could take. He deserved a happy life.’
"I know, but that’s not important."
’It would just be a difficult path, not an impossible one.’
’That was better than having no path at all.’
When he found out the man Evelyn Grant wanted to marry was his older brother, Ryan Sterling felt like his whole world had gone dark.
There wasn’t a shred of hope left.
The woman he loved had become his sister-in-law.
How absurd was that?
No one could understand the sheer desperation he felt at that moment.
Now that he had been given a chance, what more could he possibly ask for?
As long as he could stay by Evelyn Grant’s side, he was willing to compromise on anything.
"I..."
"Don’t think about all that. We just need to move forward."
Evelyn Grant lowered her eyes for a long moment, then nodded.
"Okay."
’Truthfully, even she didn’t know why, or when she had started to accept Ryan Sterling.’
’Maybe it was because he had saved her time and again, giving it his all.’
’Or maybe... it was how he always looked out for her, which gave her the feeling of home.’
’He was the third person in her life, after her mother and brother, who truly cared about her.’
...
That evening, Evelyn Grant finished her work before washing up and changing her clothes.
Just as she was preparing to get some rest, her phone suddenly rang.
’It was so late, she couldn’t imagine who would be calling.’
Walking over to her phone, Evelyn Grant took a look.
’Thank goodness...’
’It wasn’t Julian Sterling.’
"Hello, Alex?"
A call from her brother this late made Evelyn Grant more nervous than a call from Julian Sterling ever could!
She was afraid something had happened to their mother.
"Sis, you’re not asleep, are you?"
"Not yet. What’s up?"
Alex Grant hesitated a moment before speaking. "When I got home today, I heard Mom say that you and your husband had a fight? I wanted to ask what happened."
’So that’s what this was about...’
Evelyn Grant breathed a small sigh of relief.
"It’s nothing! Your studies are what’s important right now, so don’t get distracted by these things!"
"You’re my sister, how can I not be concerned about you? Besides..." Alex Grant hesitated for a second, then continued, "I don’t think your husband loves you. The way he acted before... he never seemed to care about your feelings at all!"
"..."
"Sis, I’m afraid you’re being bullied but don’t dare to tell me or Mom!"
This was his own sister, after all. Of course Alex Grant knew what kind of person Evelyn Grant was!
It was precisely because he knew her so well that when he heard his sister had fought with her husband, he was certain her husband must have done something awful to cause it.
