I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 79: Demanding Justice For You
Chapter 79: Chapter 79: Demanding Justice For You
"Don’t worry, I’m fine! Just focus on your studies. You don’t need to worry about me."
’This is a critical time in my brother’s life. Of course I’m not going to bother him!’
Evelyn Grant had never been one to trouble others, especially not her own family!
Her mother’s health was poor, and Alex was swamped with his studies. The last thing she wanted was for her problems to affect them.
"Sis, the fact that you’re saying that just proves you two must have had a fight! Tell me, what happened? What did my brother-in-law do to you?" Alex Grant might not have much real-world experience, but he wasn’t an idiot. "You can’t just endure everything on your own—you have family! If it comes to it, we’ll just divorce him. It’s not like we owe the Sterling Family anything!"
"Don’t get so worked up. We’re really fine!"
"Really?"
"Really!"
Alex Grant was still suspicious, but thankfully, he didn’t press her further. "Alright, then. But if anything happens, you have to tell me! Mom’s health isn’t good, so she might not be able to handle your problems, but I’m different! I can’t let you get bullied with no one to stand up for you!"
His words made Evelyn Grant’s nose tingle, and she felt the sting of tears.
But she couldn’t show any of it in front of her brother.
After hanging up, Evelyn Grant stood frozen for a long moment, forcing back the tears that threatened to spill over.
’It was at times like this that she couldn’t afford to cry.’
’She hadn’t even cried in prison. She’d made it through all that, so what was there to cry about now?’
...
Julian Sterling was walking down the street alone, not driving.
He couldn’t even remember the last time he had walked by himself.
Because Evelyn had always been there. Even if he got drunk at a business function, she would drive to pick him up, no matter how late it was. She would never have left him by himself!
But now...
Everything had changed.
As Julian Sterling walked, he overheard a young couple chatting behind him.
Just listening to their conversation, he could feel the sweet intimacy between them.
And that kind of sweetness...
He could have had that.
He could have been like that with Evelyn Grant!
Julian Sterling had no idea how long he’d been walking when Florence Morgan called.
"Julian, where are you?"
"Out."
Even though he was miserable, Julian Sterling was unwilling to show it in front of his mother.
He still wanted to maintain his composure.
"Come back to the old family estate. Now."
Florence Morgan’s tone was forceful, the kind that brooked no argument.
Julian Sterling subconsciously furrowed his thick brows. "What’s wrong?"
"And you have the nerve to ask me what’s wrong?"
"..."
"Tell me, did you send people to take care of that Jane Jacobs’s father? And did you promise him money?"
When Florence Morgan found out about this, she was so furious she wanted to disown her eldest son!
She really couldn’t see what was so great about that Jane Jacobs, or how she had managed to bewitch her son to this extent!
"Mom, I only agreed because I didn’t want him to keep causing trouble! Jane’s father said that if I didn’t handle him properly, he would go after Evelyn Grant."
"That’s just an excuse! What could he possibly do to Eve? His daughter’s scheme backfired, and she’s the one who’s thrown the Sterling Family into chaos. Am I supposed to be afraid of him causing a scene?"
Julian Sterling rubbed the bridge of his nose. "The evidence that got Evelyn Grant out of prison was found by Ryan. I’m worried it might not be real! Anyway, the dust has settled now. As long as we placate Jane’s father, won’t this whole thing be over?"
