I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 76: I’m Begging You
Chapter 76: Chapter 76: I’m Begging You
"Blinded by who? You were the one who wanted to send me to my death. Who else would have bothered to deceive you?"
’Even Jane Jacobs was dead!’
’He just didn’t believe me. He just wanted to get justice for Jane Jacobs!’
"I thought you really were the one who pushed her!"
"You thought?" Evelyn Grant couldn’t suppress a scornful laugh. "Because of those two words, I almost lost my life! And now you just casually say ’I thought’ and expect me to let bygones be bygones?"
’It seemed Julian Sterling didn’t think of her as devoted, but as an idiot!’
’A complete and utter fool!’
"..."
Julian Sterling had never seen this side of Evelyn Grant.
He was so thoroughly rebuffed that he was left speechless, unable to think of an excuse.
Julian Sterling stared with his dark eyes at the petite, frail woman before him. She was so familiar, yet so strange.
There was a time when she had put him first in everything.
The slightest sneeze from him would send Evelyn Grant into a worried flurry, fetching medicine and fussing over him.
’When... did things between them turn out like this?’
Julian Sterling couldn’t find an answer.
But he knew one thing for certain: Evelyn Grant had changed.
No matter how much Julian tried to fool himself, no matter how much he wanted to believe Evelyn Grant was still the deeply devoted person she once was, she had still changed.
"We’re over. The only reason I didn’t press the matter last time was because I didn’t want to blow things out of proportion and have my mother find out. She would worry about me! But that doesn’t give you an excuse to keep threatening me!"
Evelyn Grant did have her reasons for holding back, but if Julian Sterling kept exploiting that vulnerability, she would eventually snap.
When Julian Sterling didn’t say a word after all she had said, she assumed he understood.
But just as Evelyn Grant was about to leave, he once again gripped her wrist tightly, refusing to let go.
"Don’t go. Don’t go to Ryan."
She looked up, her gaze meeting Julian Sterling’s deep, dark eyes.
A tide of emotions swirled in his eyes, crashing over her.
If the Julian of the past had ever looked at Evelyn Grant like this, even for a single glance, she would have been overjoyed.
’She would have thought he cared about her!’
But now, this belated affection was no longer needed.
"Where I go and who I see is none of your business."
"Then I’m begging you."
The heat from Julian Sterling’s palm seemed to brand itself onto Evelyn Grant’s skin. It was so warm!
It was a warmth she had once longed for but could never hope to have.
He tried once more to gauge Evelyn Grant’s feelings. "I’m begging you, don’t go to Ryan’s side. Don’t be with him! End things with him, and from now on... from now on, I’ll be good to you."
"Julian Sterling, just as you never believed me, I no longer believe you. Nothing you say or do moves me in the slightest. I don’t feel a thing. I just think that, for the sake of the past relationship between our families, we should part amicably and not make an irreparable mess. And let me be clear, none of this is because I still have any feelings for you."
’No matter how deep the affection, it can be worn away, bit by bit, until nothing remains.’
’She felt absolutely nothing for Julian Sterling now.’
’She just wanted to get away from him, away from the Sterling Family!’
’But then, of all people, Ryan Sterling had to show up in her life.’
’His existence meant that Evelyn Grant was fated to never completely sever her ties with the Sterling Family.’
’In the future, there would be countless, tangled connections.’
"Is it because Ryan came into the picture that you stopped...?"
"No," Evelyn Grant answered decisively.
