Chloe Shea’s comment was, of course, an innocent one.

It was just an elder showing her concern!

But to Julian and Evelyn, it sounded completely different.

They both instinctively lowered their heads, avoiding the topic.

"Mom, we should get back inside. The dumplings will get cold."

"Yes, yes!"

During dinner, the topic naturally turned to their marriage.

Chloe Shea had a lot to say.

For example, "What couple doesn’t bicker and argue? That’s just how life is!"

Or, "If you two have issues, talk them out. Don’t just sulk and give each other the silent treatment, and don’t be so quick to talk about divorce!"

Evelyn just listened, not saying anything in response.

Only Julian would chime in every now and then, taking all the blame upon himself.

When the meal was over, Evelyn got up to clear the table.

It was almost Chloe Shea’s bedtime. ’If I can just endure this a little longer, I can leave,’ Evelyn thought. So, she decided to remain silent.

Finally, she saw her chance. She stood up and grabbed her purse.

"Mom, get some rest. I’ll be leaving now."

"Oh, alright! You and Julian drive safe!"

Chloe Shea waved. Evelyn didn’t even respond, simply putting on her shoes and leaving.

Behind her, after saying a quick goodbye to his mother, Julian immediately chased after her!

Evelyn had already gotten into a taxi, but Julian forcibly brought the car to a stop!

"Evelyn, get out of the car! I won’t let you go see Ryan!"

Startled by his behavior, the driver turned to look at her.

"Who is this guy?"

"Ignore him."

"But he’s blocking the car, I can’t go anywhere!" The driver was in a difficult position. "This is just wasting my time. Young lady, maybe you should just get out."

Evelyn furrowed her brow, realizing she was causing trouble for the driver.

After a second’s pause, she paid the base fare, pushed open the door, and got out.

"Julian, what the hell do you think you’re doing?"

"You’re mine! I forbid you from going to Ryan! You two can’t be together! Haven’t I made myself clear enough?"

Julian felt like he was losing his mind.

He had never felt this way before.

Anger, mixed with a hint of fear.

The thought of Evelyn going to his brother, the idea of them spending more and more time tangled up together—it terrified him.

He was afraid Evelyn would actually develop feelings for Ryan.

Because if that happened, he would lose all his advantages.

After all, he was banking on the fact that Evelyn was loyal and didn’t fall in love easily.

She wasn’t the type to just move on and fall for someone else so easily.

"What gives you the right to say that to me?" Now that they were away from his mother’s house, Evelyn didn’t have to hold back anymore. "The right of an ex-husband?"

"Our divorce is invalid!"

"How could it be invalid?"

"It’s because Ryan deliberately schemed against me! As soon as he found out about Jane Jacobs, he started plotting this from abroad! He did it on purpose to break us up so he could take my place!"

Evelyn laughed.

It was a laugh filled with disdain.

"So, your affair with Jane Jacobs... did Ryan force you into that? Because I seem to recall that on the day you set me up, he actually warned you! You were the one who refused to trust me. You were the one who insisted on pushing our relationship to where it is today!"

’And now he wants to stand on the moral high ground and criticize me?’

He had lost the right to do so.

"I was blinded!"
