I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 74: Can’t We Start Over?
Chapter 74: Chapter 74: Can’t We Start Over?
"This is my business, and it has nothing to do with you."
Evelyn Grant turned to leave.
Julian Sterling immediately ran after her and grabbed her wrist. "You’d better know what you’re doing! You know exactly what my relationship with Ryan is. Now you’re running off to marry him and having a baby? Have you even considered me?"
"Then when you were with Jane Jacobs, did you consider me at all?"
Before, Evelyn could still put up with it.
She thought if she just held on a little longer, she could win Julian’s heart for real.
After all, they were husband and wife, and they’d known each other since they were children. She believed the foundation of their relationship had to be stronger than whatever he had with Jane Jacobs.
But Evelyn realized she was wrong.
Horribly wrong.
It turned out that in Julian’s heart, she was nothing. She probably wasn’t even worth Jane Jacobs’s little finger.
"After I was arrested and sent to prison, I spent every day wondering why our relationship ended up like this. In my mind, I still saw you as the gentle, considerate Julian I once knew! But then I figured it out. It’s simply because you don’t love me."
’When you don’t love someone, anything you do seems reasonable.’
’Because he didn’t love me, he could bear to do it.’
He could completely ignore the consequences, ignore what I would face after going to prison, all for the sake of the person he loved!
"And just for that, you decided to get mixed up with Ryan?"
"And why do you think I ended up with him? Don’t you know perfectly well?"
"..."
Evelyn took a deep breath and reined in her emotions.
This was her mother’s house. She couldn’t let this argument take a toll on her mom’s health.
"You know exactly what you did, and so do I! Let’s stop pretending."
Evelyn tried to pull her hand away.
But Julian still didn’t let go.
"Can’t we... start over?"
’Back to when she still loved me.’
"What do you think?"
"I think we can!" Julian thought Evelyn was giving him a chance, so he desperately tried to seize it. "If you just abort this child now, we can pretend none of this ever happened! I swear I’ll never mention Jane Jacobs in front of you again."
"You’d be willing?"
Julian pursed his lips. "I can."
"But I don’t want it anymore."
Evelyn had just finished speaking when Chloe Shea, who had been upstairs, finally sensed something was wrong and came out to find them.
"What are you two..."
Seeing the injury on Julian’s face, Chloe Shea instinctively glanced at her daughter.
For a moment, Evelyn didn’t know how to explain, so she just remained silent.
Fortunately, Julian reacted quickly, laughing as he said, "Mom, I just took a little fall. Don’t worry. Let’s go back inside and have some dumplings!"
Chloe Shea paused, raising an eyebrow slightly. "Where’s Ryan?"
"He had something to take care of, so he left early! You have no idea, Ryan is swamped with work at his company. He’s so busy these days he barely has time to chat with his own brother." Julian went over and took Chloe Shea’s arm. "Don’t you worry about him. It’s his loss that he’s missing out on your dumplings!"
Chloe Shea actually found it quite strange that her son-in-law was being so exceptionally sweet-tongued today.
But she figured that since her daughter hadn’t said anything, she shouldn’t be the one to start anything.
For the older generation, keeping the peace was what mattered most.
"It’s alright, we can pack some for him to take home later! I haven’t seen Ryan in so many years. I was just thinking I should ask him if he has a girlfriend!"
