Chapter 66: Chapter 66: A Person Who Shouldn’t Be Here

"Isn’t that your own brother and your sister-in-law? I just thought that even though you and Eve weren’t that close before, you still grew up together. There’s some history there! If you can help, you should. Why are you so angry?"

"I—"

Florence Morgan lost her temper too. "You’ve been abroad for years. I think you’ve forgotten what family even means! Your brother isn’t asking you for anything else, just this one thing, and you’re not willing to help!"

"This is the one thing I can’t help with."

"Fine! From now on, your father and I won’t ask you for anything! You’re too big for your britches now!"

With that, she hung up the phone.

Ryan Sterling rubbed the bridge of his nose, picked up a pack of cigarettes from the table, and lit one.

He had just taken a drag when he remembered that Evelyn Grant was pregnant.

If there was smoke in the house, it would be bad for her health.

Ryan Sterling grabbed a black jacket, stood up, and walked outside, cigarette in hand.

The evening breeze was a bit chilly, occasionally tousling his hair and ruffling the strands across his forehead.

Even after finishing a whole cigarette, his frustration hadn’t eased one bit.

He had a premonition that something was about to happen...

And it wasn’t anything good. It was about Evelyn Grant.

...

Evelyn Grant bought some fruit for her mother and brother and carried it upstairs.

Right before entering the building’s main door, she made a point to look around.

Only after confirming there were no luxury cars in sight did she finally relax.

’Maybe I’m just overthinking things.’

’Julian Sterling is a very proud man. He wouldn’t stoop to something like this.’

"KNOCK KNOCK."

Evelyn Grant’s hands were too full with the things she was carrying to get her keys, so she could only knock.

After she knocked twice, Chloe Shea’s voice came from inside.

"Coming!"

The door opened quickly.

Evelyn Grant was about to speak when, in the next second, someone who had no business being there appeared in her line of sight.

Julian Sterling.

Her first reaction was to freeze.

Then she turned to leave.

"Evelyn Grant!"

Taking advantage of his long legs, Julian Sterling strode after her.

Before Evelyn Grant could even make it to the ground floor, he grabbed her by the arm!

"Your mom is still here. Do you want to fight with me in front of her?"

She might have been fine if he hadn’t mentioned that, but now her expression soured.

"I haven’t done anything wrong, so why should I be afraid? Julian Sterling, I told you we should part on good terms. What are you doing?"

"I want to talk to you."

"I don’t want to talk to you! I have nothing to say to you." Evelyn Grant struggled. "Let go!"

Julian Sterling frowned.

"I won’t! Your mom is definitely still waiting upstairs—she even made dumplings especially for you. If she finds out we’re down here fighting, she’ll definitely guess that we got divorced!"

Evelyn Grant looked up at him and scoffed, "Since when do you care if my mom knows? You just want to use her!"

’Others might not know, but how could I not see through him?’

’Before, Julian Sterling never even considered visiting his mother-in-law, not even for the holidays. But now he suddenly feels the need?’

’It’s just that something has happened, and now he wants one more person on his side to persuade me.’

"Use her?" Julian Sterling didn’t like that word. "Even if we’re divorced, our families are still connected, right? I just wanted to come and visit. Is that not allowed?"

"Then go visit her. My mom’s upstairs. Let go of me."

Evelyn Grant wasn’t giving him an ounce of respect, and Julian Sterling was starting to get annoyed.

His brow furrowed. "Do you want me to tell her about you and my brother?"
