I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 65: You Are My Daughter
Chapter 65: Chapter 65: You Are My Daughter
"You’re my daughter. Why would I hide anything from you?"
Since her mother had said that, Evelyn Grant had no choice but to let go of her suspicions.
"Maybe I’ve just been a bit emotional lately. I shouldn’t be overthinking it. Mom, just wait for me at home! I’ll grab a few things and be right back."
Chloe Shea quickly agreed. "Okay, okay!"
After hanging up with her mother, Evelyn Grant made a point of calling her law firm. Once she confirmed there was nothing that needed her attention, she got in a car and headed to her mother’s place.
On the way, a notification popped up on her phone.
It was from Ryan Sterling.
Evelyn Grant tapped it open.
She thought he was asking where she was, or when she’d be back.
But it was neither.
Ryan Sterling was simply asking about her well-being.
Have you eaten? Remember to eat something, don’t let yourself get hungry.
Evelyn Grant instinctively started to reply, but her fingers paused over the screen for a moment, as if she didn’t know what to say.
’What exactly is my relationship with Ryan Sterling right now?’
’No word seems to fit.’
’If I say we’re friends, well, I’m carrying his child, and we’re legally married.’
’What kind of friends are like that?’
’But if I say we’re husband and wife...’
’That’s too absurd!’
’He’s my ex-husband’s own brother!’
If Florence Morgan or her own mother ever found out about this... Evelyn Grant didn’t dare to even imagine it!
’Who could possibly understand a relationship like this?’
Even she, the one at the center of it all, couldn’t make sense of it.
After much internal debate, Evelyn Grant finally sent him a reply.
Okay, got it.
...
After seeing the message, Ryan Sterling felt a strong urge to ask her where she was.
He wanted to know if she was meeting with his older brother.
But he forced himself to suppress the impulse, to push it down.
He was the one who had promised her freedom, and he had to keep his word.
Ryan Sterling felt agitated. He thought about opening the company’s back-end system, but he was in no mood to deal with work.
He had just gotten up to pour himself a glass of water when a call came in from Florence Morgan.
Seeing it was his mother’s number, he didn’t even want to answer.
’I can already guess what this is about.’
But when he didn’t answer the first time, she called again, forcing Ryan Sterling to pick up his phone.
"Mom."
"Ryan, have you seen your brother in the past few days?"
Ryan Sterling knew it.
His thick brows furrowed. "No."
"Well, you should see him more often. Talk to him! It’s easier for you two as brothers to communicate. Your brother made a mistake, and now he’s trying to save his marriage. Since you’re back in the country and not really handling much company business anyway, you should help him out!"
There were some things Florence Morgan felt it wasn’t her place to say, but she figured that as brothers—two men—they could talk about anything.
"When he was making his mistakes, he never once thought about the consequences for his marriage. Now that he regrets it and wants to save it, that’s suddenly my responsibility?"
Ryan Sterling had no patience for this.
"You two are full-blooded brothers. What’s all this talk about responsibility?"
"I warned him before he treated Evelyn Grant like that, but my brother refused to listen! How is that my fault?"
He scoffed. "My brother was in love with Jane Jacobs. It’s only because she’s dead that he’s suddenly interested in Evelyn Grant again! He was never sincere about his marriage, so why does everyone have to help him now?"
Ryan Sterling hadn’t even brought up the fact that his brother and mother had drugged Evelyn Grant.
And now she actually expected him to help the man?
