"So, I’m being serious. Come down, and we can keep our parents out of this."
Julian Sterling’s words were nothing short of a threat.
Evelyn Grant had a million reasons not to see him, but with her mother involved, she had no choice but to compromise.
"If I come down, will you call my mom and tell her something came up last minute, that you can’t make it tonight?"
Julian Sterling fell silent for a few seconds before speaking. "Didn’t you ask me many times before to go with you to visit your mom?"
But he had refused every time, using his busy work schedule as an excuse.
"That was before!"
"But if I go with you now, wouldn’t that put your mom’s mind at ease?"
’He hated this feeling!’
’It was as if he was suddenly unwelcome everywhere in Evelyn Grant’s world.’
"She doesn’t need that anymore."
"And I don’t need it either."
...
Seeing Julian Sterling again, Evelyn Grant couldn’t quite name the feeling.
It felt like a lifetime had passed.
He was wearing a navy blue suit, as tall and impeccably postured as ever, exuding an air of refined elegance.
Perhaps because he was still recovering from his stomach problems, the color was drained from his face. Standing there, a gust of wind made him seem even more fragile.
"Eve."
The moment he saw her, he instinctively started walking toward her.
But Evelyn Grant remained rooted to the spot. As Julian drew near, she even took a few steps back.
"Let’s just talk here. I have somewhere to be, so I need to leave as soon as we’re finished."
Julian Sterling gazed at the woman before him, at his former wife. His fingertips twitched instinctively, but ultimately, he didn’t take another step forward.
A heavy silence stretched between them for a long moment before he finally spoke, his voice low. "Go and abort this child."

"The only reason you got pregnant was to avoid execution if you were sentenced to death, wasn’t it? You’ve been acquitted now. Why are you still keeping the child?"
Julian Sterling thought he was already discussing this with Evelyn Grant in the calmest way possible.
’There was no way he could accept her carrying another man’s child!’
’If Evelyn Grant would just cooperate willingly, it would save a lot of trouble.’
But Julian Sterling could never understand what this child meant to Evelyn Grant.
A bitter smile touched her lips as she raised a hand to gently caress her stomach. "When you were gnashing your teeth, wishing I would die, my child was the one who saved me. How could I possibly get rid of him now, just because of a few words from you? If you only called me down here to say this, then we have nothing to discuss! I’m afraid my baby will hear you and be sad."
Evelyn Grant turned to leave, but Julian, with his longer legs, quickly strode forward to block her path.
His handsome face hardened as he demanded, "You’re going to have this child?!"
"Yes."
"I forbid it!" Julian’s heart felt as though it had been viciously struck, the pain fueling his anger. "You cheated on me during our marriage and conceived this... bastard, and now you want to have it? Have you considered me at all? You’re just trying to trample my dignity underfoot!"
’Cheated on him during our marriage?’
Evelyn Grant looked up, her expression impassive, her voice like ice. "I seem to recall you telling me yourself that the child Jane Jacobs was carrying was yours."
’So if we’re talking about adultery, he was the one who committed it!’
’She already had the divorce papers in hand when she slept with Ryan Sterling. She was a free woman!’
Julian Sterling clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white from the force.
"But in the evidence you had, the chat logs showed that Jane said I never actually slept with her! I... I’ve never even been with a woman..."
