I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 156: She Seems to Be Dead
Chapter 156: Chapter 156: She Seems to Be Dead
Who could possibly accept that?
Evelyn Grant simply couldn’t believe it!
She refused to give up.
Finally, after glancing at Julian Sterling, she took the phone and dialed Ryan Sterling’s number!
The phone rang. Once, twice...
Evelyn Grant’s heart leaped into her throat.
She desperately hoped there was something wrong with the number—that this was just another one of Julian Sterling’s schemes.
’That way, I wouldn’t have to endure being deceived and toyed with all over again...’
Evelyn Grant couldn’t even bear to think any further.
She just prayed the number wasn’t real, that it wasn’t really Ryan Sterling on the other end.
But it was as if the heavens were playing a cruel joke on Evelyn Grant!
The call connected.
Ryan Sterling’s voice came through the receiver.
"Hello? Mom."
"..."
She looked up to see Julian Sterling staring back, one of his thick eyebrows slightly raised.
At that moment, Evelyn Grant felt as if her heart had stopped beating entirely.
It was as if she had died.
She had died the moment Ryan Sterling answered the phone.
Evelyn Grant couldn’t even summon the courage to say a single word. She just hung up the phone.
Julian Sterling smirked. "See? I wasn’t lying to you! This is what Ryan sent my mother! And what’s more, he took the initiative and told my mother he’d help me get that drug!"
"..."
"Eve, I know everything in the past was my fault. I didn’t cherish you! The agony I’ve been through is my punishment, and I accept it. Please, I’m begging you, come back to me. Don’t get tangled up with Ryan anymore! He doesn’t truly love you. He’s just playing with you. He’s not even as sincere as I am! At the very least, I didn’t lie to you. When I didn’t love you, I told you that to your face! Now I love you, and I’m telling you that directly, too."
Evelyn Grant took a moment to compose herself before handing the phone back to Julian Sterling.
Then, she turned and walked away.
Julian Sterling froze for a second, then immediately ran after her!
"Eve? Where are you going? You haven’t given me an answer yet!"
"An answer? Hah." Evelyn Grant stopped and tilted her head back to sneer at him. "I just hope that all of you who play with people’s feelings come to a bad end!"
"..."
"You love to play games, don’t you? Is it that much fun to mess with me?"
Julian Sterling pressed his lips together. "That’s not it. Listen to me..."
"There’s nothing to talk about. And I don’t see what you get from toying with me, or what there is to be proud of!"
In that moment, Evelyn Grant didn’t feel the slightest urge to cry.
What she felt, more than anything, was anger.
’Ryan Sterling... how could he be like this too...?’
’How could he help Julian Sterling get that drug, knowing full well it was going to be used on me!’
Thinking back on all the sweet nothings Ryan Sterling had whispered to her, it was as if each word was now a sharp, resounding slap across her own face!
A blow so hard it left Evelyn Grant powerless to retaliate.
’How could I have been so stupid...?’
’Unable to tell good from bad, getting myself deceived again and again!’
"Eve, I only showed you this to make you understand that Ryan Sterling is no good either. If he can stage this whole act to deceive you now, he’ll just do more deceitful things in the future! He might even say he loves you, but that would be a lie, too! He’s only doing this to prove he can steal you away from me!"
"I don’t care what his motives for getting close to me were anymore." Evelyn Grant clenched her fists and closed her eyes. "Ryan Sterling found the evidence that got me out of prison. I owe him for that. If he played me, so be it. I’ll accept it."
