Chapter 152: Chapter 152: Just Feeling More and More Disgusted

Evelyn Grant didn’t want to—and couldn’t—explain the specific reasons or the grievances she had suffered.

But she was absolutely sick with regret over her relationship with Julian Sterling!

She should have told her family sooner. That way, her mother could have been more guarded.

Her and Ryan Sterling’s child...

Wouldn’t have been lost.

"That damned brat! And he had the nerve to come to me, pretending to be in love with you! He fed me all this nonsense about wanting to make things work between you two! Eve, I really thought he had finally realized the importance of family and his wife, that he wanted to reconcile with you!" Chloe Shea was furious. "I’m calling him right now to give him a piece of my mind!"

"Mom, please stay out of it."

"How can I not get involved? He’s bullying my precious daughter! I can let it slide that Julian Sterling lied to me, but how could he be the one to ask for a divorce! Everyone saw how good you were to him—even your in-laws, even strangers! What right does he have to ask for a divorce? What gives him the right?!"

Evelyn Grant couldn’t go into detail, so she could only try to placate her mother in a low voice. "Mom, we’re already divorced. There’s no need for you to argue with him about it. It’s pointless now. The only reason I told you today was so you’d know that from now on... we don’t need to have any contact with Julian Sterling ever again."

Chloe Shea shot back, "That goes without saying! Forget Julian Sterling—I won’t have anything to do with any of the Sterling Family from now on! I’m so furious! If I’d known it would turn out like this, I never would have agreed to the marriage they proposed! I thought... I thought since our families have known each other for so many years, they would at least treat my daughter well for old times’ sake! I never imagined this! That whole family is a pack of heartless monsters!"

"..."

Evelyn wanted to say that Ryan Sterling wasn’t like that.

But right now, she had more important things to do.

"Eve, don’t you worry. If that Julian Sterling ever shows his face here again, I swear I’ll grab a big stick and chase him out!"

"Mom, please calm down. Your health is more important." Saying this seemed to drain Evelyn Grant, her body feeling even weaker and her voice growing fainter. "That’s why I didn’t dare tell you before. I was worried about your health."

"I’m not that fragile! If it’s something I should know, then I need to know it! I don’t want people treating me like a fool!"

Evelyn Grant forced a faint smile. "Alright, I’m heading to work now... Please don’t sit here stewing in your anger. If your heart condition acts up because of Julian Sterling, it just wouldn’t be worth it! And I really do have a lot on my plate at work lately—"

"Don’t worry, I won’t cause you any more trouble. A divorce is a divorce! My daughter is beautiful and dutiful—it’s his loss for not being able to appreciate you!"

"Yeah."

After hanging up, Evelyn Grant stared at her phone screen and took a deep breath. Then, she found Julian Sterling’s number and dialed.

It rang a few times before he finally picked up.

She hadn’t heard his voice in a while, and for a moment, it felt surreal.

The memory of all her past devotion and concern for him made Evelyn Grant... feel increasingly nauseated.

"It was you, wasn’t it."

"Eve..."

"Julian Sterling, you’re even more disgusting than I could have ever imagined!"

The concern in Julian Sterling’s voice instantly vanished.

He let out a cold, mocking laugh. "I’m disgusting? What about Ryan Sterling, then? Lusting after his own sister-in-law, plotting to snatch away his own brother’s wife—is that not disgusting? If he can do it, why can’t I?"
