I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 107: The Law Firm Will Take Responsibility
Chapter 107: Chapter 107: The Law Firm Will Take Responsibility
Evelyn Grant didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at his reply.
’Why does the head of the firm have to personally discuss this with me?’
Though she was displeased, she just wanted to know the reason. Ultimately, the final decision rested in Mr. Shaw’s hands.
"This isn’t about whether you give me another case or not. I just don’t understand why we have to do this. You can’t just make my client switch lawyers with a single word from you! If my client files a complaint later, or even just talks about me to others, it will affect my reputation!"
"Don’t worry about that. I promise it won’t affect you at all. If anything comes up, the firm will step in and take full responsibility."
Mr. Shaw was practically thumping his chest to guarantee it, his attitude as accommodating as could be.
What else could Evelyn Grant say?
She had no choice but to accept her superiors’ arrangements.
"Ms. Grant, we have a meeting in a bit. Did you see the notice?"
"I did. I’ll head to the conference room right away."
"Okay."
The call ended, and Mr. Shaw finally allowed himself to breathe a sigh of relief.
And even then, it was only a small one...
’The task of keeping an eye on Ms. Grant was likely going to get more and more difficult. Someone was already trying to get close to her. If anything went wrong, wouldn’t it all be his responsibility?’
The mere thought of it made Mr. Shaw’s skin crawl.
’Besides, if something really did happen, how could he ever face Ryan Sterling...’
...
Right after Evelyn Grant hung up, she received a call from Mr. Ford.
She hesitated for a moment before answering.
’She was sure he was going to yell at her, but Evelyn Grant still felt it was necessary to explain the situation.’
"Hello, Mr. Ford."
Surprisingly, Mr. Ford didn’t start yelling at her. Instead, he chuckled and said, "Ms. Grant, the head of your firm just contacted me. Said they want to assign me a new lawyer!"
"Yes, that’s what management has arranged. They just informed me as well."
"Could you talk to the head of your firm for me? I really don’t want to switch lawyers. I feel like we get along and communicate very well. You’ve been on my case up to this point, and we’ve built a good rapport. I think changing lawyers at this stage won’t be good for my case, don’t you agree?"
Evelyn Grant could certainly understand why a client wouldn’t want to switch lawyers.
After all, a new lawyer would mean going over all the case details again from the very beginning. It was unavoidable.
But...
"Mr. Ford, our firm will be assigning you an even more prominent lawyer, you can rest assured of that. Since management made this decision, they certainly would have taken your best interests into full consideration!"
"But I only want you as my lawyer."
This put Evelyn Grant in a difficult position.
After a moment’s thought, she began, "First of all, thank you for your trust in me, but... this really is the firm’s decision. I have to follow their arrangements. There’s nothing else I can do."
Evelyn Grant wasn’t one for platitudes.
She preferred to lay out the facts clearly and let her sincerity speak for itself.
"Then could you take my case privately? We could discuss the terms!"
The moment she heard this, Evelyn Grant’s tone became serious. "I’m sorry, but that’s absolutely not possible. I’m a lawyer at this firm, and our policies strictly forbid us from taking cases on the side."
’Mr. Shaw had been so good to her. He hadn’t even considered firing her when things went wrong before. If she took this case on the side now, Evelyn Grant would despise herself!’
