Huo Tu was usually quick with his words, but right now, he couldn’t find a single reason to argue back.

"Are you Sister Ye’s father?" a voice called out.

Everyone looked over to see Jiang Yue walking toward them, her tone questioning.

"Yes."

The black-robed man replied.

He threw back his black cloak, revealing a dark, stern face etched with several knife scars. He had an imposing air without even being angry.

Huo Tu had already sensed this man was no simple character, but after seeing his face, he was even more certain that this was someone you did not cross.

He was a local tyrant himself and had seen his share of ruthless men in Qingzhou, but none of them could compare to the man before him. Just looking at him was enough to make him tremble.

Jiang Yue faltered mid-step, a flicker of fear on her face. But the thought that this was Sister Ye’s father gave her a surge of courage. "Sister Ye is staying at the Yan Hui Inn in the city right now. We just saw each other this afternoon."

"Thank you."

Xiang Minghou said coldly before turning to leave.

The dozen or so black-robed attendants sheathed their longswords and followed closely behind.

Huo Tu let out a breath of relief. Ignoring the wound on his neck, he rushed to check on Huo Liran, who lay unconscious nearby.

When Huo Feng saw Xiang Minghou’s face, he felt as if he’d just taken a stroll past the gates of hell. Even after the man had left, his heart was still pounding. ’To think someone with such overwhelming killing intent actually exists in this world.’

"Brother Huo, are you all right?" Jiang Chenyi asked, walking over.

Huo Feng gathered himself, still shaken from the ordeal. He shook his head slightly. "Thank you, Miss Jiang."

’If it hadn’t been for her, who knows what that man might have done.’

’Liran’s curses were overheard by the girl’s own father. If we’d said the wrong thing or answered his questions badly, he might have actually started killing people.’

"Sister Ye’s father is so scary," Jiang Yue said, patting her chest.

Hearing this, Jiang Chenyi glared at her. "If you knew he was scary, why did you go up to him?"

Even he hadn’t dared to step forward in that situation.

"I was scared at first, too, but when I heard him say that Sister Ye was his daughter, I figured they couldn’t be bad people."

"How could you know they weren’t bad people? Don’t be so reckless next time."

"Didn’t you hear him? He said Sister Ye never causes trouble. A father who knows his daughter’s character that well can’t be a bad person. Besides, Second Brother, Sister Ye’s father even thanked me," Jiang Yue added, lifting her chin with a hint of pride.

Jiang Chenyi gave a resigned smile. She had a point.

Huo Feng felt a sour taste in his mouth as he listened. The Huo family had been in the wrong first. Miss Ye might not have held it against them, but that didn’t mean her father wouldn’t. ’I need to have a serious talk with Second Uncle about this later.’

"Feng’er, what are you standing there gawking for? Get over here!" Huo Tu bellowed, holding Huo Liran in his arms.

The shout snapped Huo Feng out of his daze. "Brother Jiang, I have to go."

Jiang Chenyi nodded.

Jiang Yue glanced over at Huo Tu’s group and tutted. "Huo Liran’s mouth is always so foul, and she acts so high and mighty. She’s the kind of person who can only get away with that in Qingzhou. The second she steps outside of it, someone’s bound to teach her some manners."

’I don’t know what the Huo family was thinking, letting her run loose.’

"Other families’ business is none of our concern. Let’s go. It’s getting late, and we still haven’t laid out the bedding in the tent," Jiang Chenyi said.

Jiang Yue pouted in their direction before following after Jiang Chenyi.

The Huo family’s servants set up tents beside the main road. Ma Liu found a doctor in the city to treat Huo Liran. The kick had been vicious, but it hadn’t damaged any internal organs.

With a few days of both internal and external medicine, she would be fine once the bruising subsided and her breathing returned to normal.

After the doctor finished examining Huo Liran, he also took a look at the wound on Huo Tu’s neck.

The Huo family’s party of more than a dozen people gathered around a bonfire, eating roast chicken and duck they had bought in the city.
