I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Chapter 993 - 480: Reversed Public Opinion

Actually, Ulock couldn’t be blamed for being so terrified of the Giant Demon General, Morga. Back when Ulock was just a toddler, Morga was already the strongest Warrior in their tribe.

He had taken quite a few beatings from Morga in his youth, all in the name of instruction. Of course, Morga would also occasionally bring him back some delicious little snacks. These included tender-skinned humans, Dwarves—who yielded small portions but had firm meat and a unique flavor—and other delicacies like Halflings. Those were all wonderful childhood memories. Given these various childhood experiences, it made perfect sense for him to treat Morga with such deep reverence. This was especially true since love and hate in monster society were often expressed much more brutally.

"What are you doing over there?" Morga asked in a displeased, deep voice.

He waited until Ulock walked up to him to address the Extraordinary Giant Demon, who was visibly two sizes smaller than him. He had just been discussing serious matters with the other three generals. Having a junior from his own tribe interrupt so suddenly caused him to lose face.

The relationship among the four generals of the Green Dragon Army was actually quite complex. They were comrades-in-arms, but if one looked closer, they weren’t all that intimate. Each of them possessed their own territories, factions, or tribes within the Jade Forest. Even though they were conversing peacefully right now, if His Majesty the Green Dragon wasn’t looming above them, they would likely fight to the death over resources.

"Speak your mind," Morga said. Although he felt somewhat irritated, he was dealing with an outstanding junior from his own tribe. Ultimately, he suppressed his emotions. He was a rare wise man among the Giant Demons.

"Brother Morga, I heard you’re discussing who to send to kill that human named Gauss?" Ulock asked.

"Hmm?" The Giant Demon Morga’s expression remained unchanged. "Who said that?"

"Hunger of the Jackal-Wolf People, Therasis, and many other Lords are all talking about it..."

Morga’s face instantly turned gloomy. "Then how about we send you?"

"No!" Ulock immediately shook his head. "I—I’m injured!" He swallowed hard, then pointed to a pale gray "wound" on the side of his waist. If a scar that was on the verge of completely fading away counted as an injury, then he was indeed injured.

A man’s reputation precedes him like a tree casting a long shadow. Now, Gauss’s name was renowned even within the Green Dragon Army. In truth, the names of Gauss and a few other powerful Adventurers had already been circulating in the forest for some time, but back then, Gauss hadn’t possessed any particularly outstanding battle records. Most of the knowledge regarding him was focused on the idea that he was a despicable wretch who enjoyed slaughtering low-level Demons.

But after the battle the day before yesterday, public opinion had completely reversed. After all, his battle record was undeniable: he had beheaded the Extraordinary Centaur, Isetor. Many had even witnessed the scene of Isetor being blasted to death from afar. Until they could confirm that their own strength surpassed his, no monster wanted to encounter this terrifyingly powerful Monster Slayer.

The longer a Demon lived, the more it valued its life. Even the Extraordinary Giant Demon Ulock—a terrifying Lord whose very name could stop children from crying at night in many small monster tribes—felt fear when facing someone stronger.

Seeing a junior from his own tribe acting so cowardly, the Giant Demon General Morga couldn’t help but feel a surge of nameless anger. It felt as if dark lines of frustration were knotting across his forehead. He glared at Ulock, furious at his lack of fighting spirit.

It was just a human. They even kept some domesticated ones in their tribe! Yet, it was this exact kind of human that had scared Ulock out of his wits. Furthermore, judging by Ulock’s answer, he wasn’t the only one afraid. Even the other Extraordinary Lords were secretly panicking. Otherwise, why would they egg on a brainless fool like Ulock to come test the waters?

He could see exactly what was going on at a single glance.

"Why not let your Ulock go? He’s thick-skinned; maybe he really can stall for time," the Two-legged Flying Dragon Lord, Viksa, chimed in from the side, deliberately fanning the flames.

Morga turned and shot him a glance. Unlike Morga’s own feigned test, this sinister bastard truly wanted to send Ulock to his death. Ulock’s speed couldn’t possibly keep that terrifyingly fast human in check. If he remembered correctly, an incident had occurred at one of his tribe’s silver mines not long ago, and his subordinates had reported that they suspected it was looted by a flying Demon.

"This guy..." Morga thought.

"Alright, enough," the Rot-Winged Dragon Bat interjected, playing the peacemaker. "Ulock, you may head back. Tell the other Lords that we have abandoned the plan to send someone to assassinate that human."

Upon hearing the Rot-Winged Dragon Bat’s words, Ulock’s expression instantly shifted from cloudy to clear, and he heaved a long sigh of relief in his heart. However, before leaving, he still looked toward his own leader, Morga.

"Get lost."

Seeing Morga’s grumpy reply, Ulock was finally able to completely relax. He turned and walked toward the exit, his footsteps significantly lighter.

"This bunch has truly been scared out of their wits," the Goblin General Snaz, who had been silent until now, said with a face full of disdain. "He is merely a human."

"Then you go?" the Flying Dragon Lord looked at him again.

"Why not? I really want to taste what that human is like." The goblin Snaz parted his thick, dark green lips and licked them with a thick tongue coated in corrosive slime. "He should be very delicious, right?"

He had eaten all the human Adventurers he had killed in the past. He was particularly passionate about consuming the strong. That gave him a sense of supreme satisfaction, from body to soul. This was perhaps a taste carved into the very genes of a goblin.

"It’s a pity. If I show up, those human generals most likely won’t stand idly by," Snaz continued. "Are you ready to launch a full-scale offensive?"
